He held the test tube, looking down at it curiously. It did fit fairly well in his hands, “What is the proper way to hold this?” he whispered, but was pretty sure he was doing it right. It seemed delicate so he held it between his fingertips

“Like this,” Carlos said, taking another tube to demonstrate. He was holding it with his fingertips near the top of the tube, his grip gentle. “Just use the pads of your fingers – the gloves have enough grip on them that it won’t slip. But Marie Curie doesn’t have gloves – I just wanted you to wear them because these are all sterile at the moment.”
