They took Carlos’ hand as they went back down to the lab. It wasn’t really scary anymore. There was science to be done, “So, back to the succulents. As a type of cactus, they super shouldn’t want as much water as I’m giving them, but as a sentient creature capable of making sounds, that would mean they had some sort of mouth or throat apparatus, right?”

“Interesting theory,” Carlos said. “But your remember the Literal Rock Band? They don’t have mouths. Something doesn’t need a mouth to make noise. As for the water… well, we’re in a desert. And deserts are hot and are associated with the need for water. Perhaps the need for water is connected to sapience – or at least sentience?”
