Carlos looked to her, a little big concerned. “Uh… do you need to?” he asked her. “Are you okay?”

“It’s stored inside an actual earring, Carlos,” she explained patiently, flicking at the thing to put her communiscanner away again. “Unless you remove it yourself, it won’t come out so you’ll always have it on you. Waterproof, too.”

“Ooh, fancy,” Carlos said. “You said they were cheap? How? I… humans can barely even begin to imagine that kind of tech, much less mass-produce it.”

“Please remember that our main currency is diamonds and gemstones. Anything we can’t find on our planet, we can trade gems for with other planets. Makes getting materials for advancing technology much easier than needing to find them on world itself.”

“Diamonds? Really? Are they not as common on your planet then? Or just uncommon enough to use as currency? Here on Earth their worth is pretty inflated.”
