As the summer days rolled by, a full moon crept closer and closer. Thankfully, the woods surrounding the camp were large and caves were scatted everywhere, maybe Carlos could wait this out in a cave? all he had to do was find one and hope some other animal didn’t make its home there, right? -(the worse starter maker) L

Carlos wandered through the forest. He knew he’d seen a cave somewhere – it looked like an old bear cave, though he hadn’t gone in it before. He wanted to be as far away from his camp and the summer camps, in case the children had an idea to wander around at night to hunt for snipes. The full moon would make visibility perfect for it, so it was a reasonable concern in Carlos’ mind.

He finally came across the cave he was looking for. And not too soon either – the moon would rise probably within the next ten minutes. Carlos ventured forth, holding his flashlight up to search the inside of the cave. Hopefully it was empty. Could a werewolf beat a bear? Maybe?

“Oh, Okay Then, I Guess..” he glanced away, unsure what to say

Carlos felt a little bad about it – he didn’t want to be seem pushy, but there were some things he just didn’t want to see. Then, of course, there were the children in the camps surrounding the area. THe police really didn’t need to be called.

“Hey… you hungry? We can head back to my tent and get something to eat. I’ve got some food.”

he smiled, wings twitching slightly “Sure! I haven’t since last night..” he got up, almost forgetting about the coat

Carlos got up after him, grabbing the coat. He hastily tied it around Drake’s waist into sort of a poor tunic-type thing. “I can offer you some shorts and a shirt too. It’ll be a bit more comfortable and… socially acceptable than this.”

“Clothes Are Annoying..” he muttered, glancing away as Carlos tied the coat around his waist

Carlos nodded. “They can be,” he admitted. Some shorts would be easier to wear than this though, I promise.”

he tilts his head “What Are Shorts?”

“It’s a thing that goes over your bottom. And it’ll stay up on its own.” Carlos stuck his feet into his shoes and knelt down to lace them up.

“Are All Human Rules Like These..?” he wrapped his wings around himself as he watched the other tie his shoes

“Like what exactly?” Carlos asked, looking up at Drake.

*places Carlos by Max* he’s drinking alcoholic beverages

*he groaned, pulling his hood up*

( @the-perfect-scientist )

What the – oh… *looks at Max* Hi Max.

hey Carlos.. *he muttered, figuring the other already knew*

I know what the anon said, but do you want to tell me yourself what’s going on?

.. i don’t know.. *he put his hands in his pockets, looking at the ground*

Max, I’m not angry. Disappointed, but not angry. I want to help you do better. Where are you getting it?

i’m not gonna throw him under the bus like that.. *he sighs softly*

Max, this isn’t about throwing someone under the bus. THis is about your health and safety. I need you to tell me.

my health and safety are fine Carlos, i don’t get why you care so much about something like me..

Max, drinking is not healthy. Especially at your age. I know I don’t need to point that out to you, but I want you to see how what you’re saying doesn’t make any sense. Do you still have any alcohol?

.. no, i don’t have any more… *he glanced away, half mumbling again*

You’re absolutely sure, Max? I’m not accusing you of lying – I just want you to be sure.

yeah, i drank everything i had when i got it…

Okay then. Max, I want you to know that it’s not a bad thing to ask me for help when you feel yourself slipping.

*he quietly glanced away*

Do you understand, Max?

yes *he retreats further into his hoodie*

Alright. Thank you, Max. Are you okay with me hugging you?

dedmax drank paint and is talking with adult strangers

Why the hell – Max? Max, where are you buddy? I need to know how you’re feeling.

@dedmaxsearchhistory

… how much do toothbrushes even cost? i’ve never had to buy one before..

Well, it depends on the kind that you get. But generally they’re pretty cheap. Especially kid’s ones.

*he nods slightly* alright, that’s good i guess

Well, I want you to get a good one too. I’ll help you pick it out, Max, and I’ll even help pay for it if you need me to.

*he smiled softly* thanks Carlos

You’re welcome, kiddo. *Carlos smiled at him. They approach the car.* Here we go… *he unlocks it and opens the back passenger door for Max*

*he said a quick thanks as he climbed into the seat, buckling himself in* how old do you have to be get a drivers license?

Well, you can start driving when your fifteen with a permit and an adult in the car. It’s to help train so you can get a license when you’re sixteen.

16? *he groans* but i can drive now! why do i have to wait 4 years?

Uh… you most certainly cannot drive now. Because the law said so.

just because the law says so, doesn’t mean i suddenly don’t know how to drive

No, Max, I mean you can’t drive as in you’re not allowed to. I’m not questioning your ability… though I really should, considering your height.

i could probably ace whatever test they have to get my license *he leaned back in his seat*

There’s still an age requirement, Max. But, you’re old enough to drive a lawn-mower doing yard work.

lowmowers aren’t cool.. *he leaned against the window*

They are – you’re literally decapitating vegetation as you run it over. Though, there’s also ATVs I suppose… but those require adult supervision for them.

you’re mowing grass, that’s the least cool thing you could do!

It’s only like that if you’re an adult. A kid driving one is seen as responsible. You know how to operate heavy machinery. That’s cool.

a lowmower isn’t heavy machinery, a fortlift or a big truck is… i should learn how to drive those! *he smiles*

A lawnmower can lop off your foot, Max. It’s considered heavy machinery.

Or just tell Ahava to stay away from Max, so it’ll hurt his feeling less

Who’s doing the parenting here?

But seriously, I need to tell both of them to stay away from each other. Max already knows he made a mistake and he feels guilty about it, but he needs to go through the consequences just like everyone else. I’ll try my best to guide him through it however so that he understands. Also, he needs to know that I’m here for him to help him.

This other kid… Ahava, was it? I’m not going to give them an easy out either. I’m not going to call the police on them or anything (not unless something really bad happens), but they’re going to hopefully know that what they did was not okay. I understand that they’re a child, but if you don’t correct a mistake that they made then they won’t learn from it.

Carlos pouted at Hancock as he laughed. Yeah, Carlos’ reaction was probably over the top, but that didn’t mean Hancock had to laugh at him.

He let Hancock have the bottle back as he pulled out a Cherry for himself. “I’ve drank before – I think a lot of people have to at least try it in their lives. But no, I don’t drink very much. I get sleepy from alcohol. It’s pretty boring, for me.” He looked at Hancock’s bottle. “I had no idea that Nuka Cola made alcoholic beverages… that’s so strange, considering they were a soda company.”

“I’m sorry, I’m sorry.” He said through a laugh as he saw Carlos’ face. “I don’t mean to make fun, I swear, I think it’s cute. And I’ve heard rumors about this stuff, rum and cola’s a classic drink, makes sense to me that they’d try to market it as a pre-made mix, y’know?”

Carlos cracked open his Nuka Cherry and settled in next to Hancock. “I guess it makes sense… but I thought Nuka-Cola was supposed to be family friendly. What if a kid were to pick up Nuka Dark when they think it’s something else? Like Grape?”

Carlos eventually did break the kiss, though he wasn’t quite ready to be away from Hancock. He hugged Hancock and nuzzled into his cheek.

“I’m so lucky to be here,” he murmured softly. “I’m not sure what I did to deserve a second chance, especially with someone I care about… but here I am. I’m… I’m so happy to be here, Hancock. I love you…”

Hancock was enjoying the moment, soaking in all the attention Carlos was willing to give him, but those last three words caught him off-guard. He froze, eyes widening and breath catching in his throat as he tried to process that and only succeeded in opening and closing his mouth a few times before sputtering out some kind of reply. “I–– you–– what? Really? Why? How….. how do you know?”

Carlos was confused by Hancock’s silence, and his breathing sounded weird. He pulled away to look at Hancock in confusion when the other spoke.

“You…” How did he know? That was… not what he was expecting as a response. “I just… know?” But then Carlos got a little worried – maybe he shouldn’t have said it. “I… do you really think I don’t know what it is?” he asked softly, his brow scrunched in concern.
