“I’ll
try not to disturb any of your science, but I have a feeling we have
some chemistry of our own dear Carlos,” Cecil said, trying to hide his
smile that came with the cheesy pun.Cecil waited for Carlos to lead him to his car, taking the chance to look around some more.
Carlos simpered at Cecil. “You think you’re adorable, don’t you?” he asked, grinning at him. He took Cecil’s hand. “C’mon. We’re losing daylight. The sun actually sets on time out here – can you believe that?”
Cecil happily took Carlos’ hand as he was led to his car. “So time works ‘normally’ here?” Cecil asks. He still wore the One True Timepiece that Carlos had given him years ago on his wrist. He didn’t even reply to the rhetoric question about whether or not he thought himself adorable.
“Oh yes!” Carlos said He immediately started to babble on about time and clocks. “It was pretty amazing to take apart a clock and find actual gears and a crystal inside of it! Ooh! And I don’t have to constantly look at the sun and wonder how fast it’s going across the sky and figure out how much time I have left out in the field.”
Carlos opened the passenger side door of his car for Cecil as he talked.
Cecil smiled, and kissed Carlos on the cheek before he got into the car. Cecil loved hearing the scientist ramble about things that he found interesting, his tone changes making even the most boring things nice to listen to. Cecil wasn’t quite sure what he was talking about with the inside of the clocks, but he nodded none the less. Part of him wondered if he preferred it here over night vale.
“Seatbelt,” Carlos reminded and he went around to get into the driver’s seat. “So, what do you think we should have for dinner? Hot dogs? We can get buns too – wheat is still legal here.”
“Sounds good to me Carlos. I wonder if they have a Big Rico’s around here.. we could get pizza for dinner some night!” He said excitedly once he found out about the Wheat situation. He put on his seatbelt as he waited for Carlos to get in.
“No, Big Rico’s is a one-off restaurant,” Carlos explained. “They just managed to monopolize all the pizza in Night Vale. We can have some Little Caeser’s or something though – ooh! Papa’s Pizza! I used to have that a lot as a kid! We should go there!”
I broke my foot so I can’t get to the kitchen… I’m just uytfrcfvghuytfrdcfgvhytf ya know? – L
Oh my goodness! Yeah, I understand how that is frustrating. I did break my ankle once, but that was years ago. AGain, take it easy. Keep it elevated and pay attention to any pain you might have.

Carlos actually jumped with a small yelp and stared up at the man who approached. At first he wondered why someone would be wearing a suit out in the wastes, but then he found his voice. “Y- RUN!“ he hissed. “There’s raiders coming! You need to get somewhere safe!”
So he was hiding from the raiders as he had suspected. Perfect. Perhaps this would make his job a bit easier. “Where are they coming from?” He asks, looking around to see if they were near enough to see, before returning his gaze to the man in front of him.
Carlos just looked at him incredulously. Didn’t he hear Carlos??
“F-from the amphitheater,” Carlos explained. “To the east. Go! Before they find both of us, please!!”
Carlos was having mixed feelings though. If the guy didn’t bolt in the next few seconds, Carlos was going to grab him and drag him down behind the table with him.
Carlos… I’ve had… a day… just a day where I was really self-destructive and I need a hug… – L
Of course – you can have a hug. I hope you’re taking it easy now and that you’re not feeling as bad as before. Drink some water… it might help.

Carlos wasn’t sure where his cough came from. It didn’t feel like allergies, but it was deep in his chest. In his lungs. Carlos wasn’t sure what was going on.
Until he started to cough up red and a flower petal while sitting at the table with Cecil. He knew what it was, but he was still confused. He looked to Cecil, not understanding and a more than a little scared.
“Carlos
still.. I could pick you up in the morning on my way to work to get
your car if that’s what you are worried about.” Cecil pouted a bit,
still concerned about his friend.“If you really won’t let me help, call me when you get there. You know you are free to crash at my place anytime.”
“No, no, it’s…” Carlos paused to cough into his arm. “It’s fine. I’ll… I’ll see you guys later. Cecil, Earl – take care.” Carlos offered them both a smile and he gathered up his keys and phone. He noticed that there was some red on the sleeve of his labcoat from the cough, and he started to feel a bit of panic. Carlos tried to hide his arm and he briskly walked toward the show return to get his shoes back.
Cecil looked back to Earl in worry. He wanted to give Carlos his space but.. he was also worried about him. He watched him walk away from the two of them, hesitantly sitting back next to Earl. Cecil decided he wouldn’t crowd him tonight but would drive by to check on him in the morning to see if he was ok.
Carlos got in his car and hurried home. His chest hurt – but he couldn’t exactly tell if it was from the flower growing inside of it or if it was from guilt. Or maybe one of those randomly-assigned emotions people sometimes get.
But he focused on getting himself home. Once he was home, Carlos went to brush his teeth and gargle mouthwash. Maybe the alcohol in the mouth wash could stave it off. He started to think about how to avoid Cecil – distance would make it better, right? He just needed to get to work. Focus on the work… then it’d go away.
Cecil decided to call it quits early, grabbing his shoes from the shoe return and making his way out. Part of him felt that something was wrong but that he didn’t feel right about prying too much into whatever was bothering his sweet Carlos. He waved a goodbye to Earl before getting in his car.
Cecil drove past Carlos’s lab before heading home just to make sure he had gotten there safely, debating whether or not he should check on him before deciding heading home would be best for the night.
Carlos put on some coffee and practically threw himself into his work down in the lab. Carlos tried not to think of anybody outside of the lab – especially not Cecil.
It had to be Cecil. Carlos felt a special kind of feeling when thinking or seeing the other man. He wondered how much of his condition was psychosomatic. He didn’t feel like he was in love. But who knew… Carlos hadn’t been in love before.

I’m losing my mind I just saw panic in Pittsburgh and while they set up Africa by Toto came on and the entire crowd went wild and turned on their phone lights and sang and I was sitting next to a dad in his fifties and he was SO confused he said “this wasn’t even this big of a hit when it came out???”
