Carlos took a sip of coffee and paused.

ā€˜It’s dusty. It tastes like dust. Like someone left the lid off pre-war. Did Kira know? Probably not… should I tell her? I don’t want to be rude, but she probably spent good money on it… I don’t know what I should do…’

Carlos was looking at an old desk terminal with sadness and a bit of frustration. ā€˜Dammit… it’s trashed. What the hell? That’s like the 8th one I’ve seen this week. Can’t there be at least one piece of tech that doesn’t look like it was put through a blender? Is that too much to ask? Probably…’

As the summer days rolled by, a full moon crept closer and closer. Thankfully, the woods surrounding the camp were large and caves were scatted everywhere, maybe Carlos could wait this out in a cave? all he had to do was find one and hope some other animal didn’t make its home there, right? -(the worse starter maker) L

Carlos wandered through the forest. He knew he’d seen a cave somewhere – it looked like an old bear cave, though he hadn’t gone in it before. He wanted to be as far away from his camp and the summer camps, in case the children had an idea to wander around at night to hunt for snipes. The full moon would make visibility perfect for it, so it was a reasonable concern in Carlos’ mind.

He finally came across the cave he was looking for. And not too soon either – the moon would rise probably within the next ten minutes. Carlos ventured forth, holding his flashlight up to search the inside of the cave. Hopefully it was empty. Could a werewolf beat a bear? Maybe?

ā€˜They Seem To Be After Me.. Leaving Painful Traps Everything They Go..’ he huffed softly

This made Carlos suspicious.

Why would they be after you? You’re not… hurting anybody, are you?

Here’s the whole video. It’s calledĀ ā€œDon’t Be A Suckerā€ and it’s 17 minutes long.

don’t just scroll past this actually watch it, it’s only 2 minutes long. If you re-recorded this today word for word with modern actors and places, it wouldn’t even look out of place as a PSA

They left out the best line:Ā ā€œRemember this when you hear this kind of talk – someone’s going to get something out of it. And it isn’t going to be you.ā€

he huffed annoyedly ā€˜Why Would I Go After The Children? I Said I’m Already Full And They Seem To Be A Bad Choice In Food.’

Carlos just huffed back. I don’t know. I don’t even know you.

he used his wing as a shiled as he pushed past himĀ ā€˜And I Don’t Either’

Carlos growled. He nipped at the wing without even thinking, but not hard.

I want to make sure you’re not going anywhere near them.

he didn’t really react to the nip, glancing back at himĀ ā€˜Then.. Follow ?’

Carlos looked at them, making a low, suspicious-sounding huff. Fine. I’ll follow.

he started trotting forward, his tail wagging softly

Carlos went after the other beast, a bit stiff and cautious as they went on. He occasionally sniffed the air, trying to see if he could smell anybody near them. If one of the kids was wandering about, or if they got too close to the camp, Carlos was going to have to do something.

Gosh… he hoped Angie was being a good girl and was asleep in her tent.

after abit of walking, they reached the stream, but he stopped a few feet away from it, carefully looking around as he crouched in the bushes

Carlos looked at the other creature strangely. What are you doing?

ā€˜Sometimes There’s Not Nice Humans Out Here..’ he hesitately moved towards the stream

Why would they come to the stream in the middle of the night? Carlos asked.

ā€˜They Come At Random..’ he took another glance around before drinking

Carlos sat beside him and looked around, deciding that he could at least keep watch. Why do they do that?

Carlos was a little slow to return the hug, but he did when he feared
that Hancock might lose his grip and fall somehow. Also, Hancock looked
so incredibly vulnerable… Carlos’ heart was hurting just from seeing
the tears. Hancock didn’t ever cry. Carlos felt like a monster for
making him cry, and he also felt like crying himself.

Carlos took in a shuddering breath – oh, he really did feel like crying! He breathed again, trying to even it out so he could speak.

ā€œHancock…
it’s o-okay,ā€ Carlos told him softly. ā€œYou’ll be okay. We got some
medicine in you… I’ll get this place cleaned up, and with some rest
you’ll be just fine.ā€

Carlos supposed he should have been mad
about the substance binge, but he realized that really he was just
scared. He wanted Hancock to be well again. That’s all he wanted.

ā€œā€˜M okay.ā€ He whispered, nodding slightly and squeezing Carlos tighter. He wasn’t particularly concerned with his own health, he never really had been, but it mattered to him that it mattered to Carlos.

ā€œAre you mad at me?ā€ The ghoul asked softly with a little sniffle. ā€œI…… I don’t want you to be mad. I didn’t mean to–– you were gone and I didn’t think you were coming back…… I was scaredā€¦ā€¦ā€

Carlos swallowed, hard. ā€œI’m not mad at you, Han,ā€ he said softly. ā€œI just want you to be okay.ā€ He sighed, and he felt his throat tighten painfully. ā€œI-I… I’m… sorry f-for leaving like that… I just went to t-the workshop. I thought you would need… need some space. After the way I re… reacted…ā€

Now probably wasn’t the time for this sort of discussion, but Carlos couldn’t help it. He just wanted to get it out there, hoping that Hancock might somehow understand. Carlos messed up so badly and Hancock was paying for it… He didn’t know what to do really.
