Carlos hummed. “And you’re the best magic spouse,” he cooed. “Think we should invite Seres in on the ketchup science? He might like the green ketchup, just ‘cause it has Shrek on the bottle.”
Carlos: What should I be for Halloween this year?
Cecil: My boyfriend
Carlos: …
Carlos: We’re literally married
Still… ♥
Well… okay uwu ♥
“It’s different because it’s purple and I am gonna eat it!” this was, hands down, one of their most favorite experiments already. Besides the ones that involved either themselves of Carlos getting flustered and hands. Though… Those probably weren’t ‘official’ science
Carlos grinned. Maybe he should do research on how to make their own ketchup supply purple, if Mags was going to love it this much. “Alright, babe – but save at least a little bit for me so the magic works, huh?”
“purple?!” that was a new one, they’d only seen purple tomatoes at farmer’s markets, “We will get that one too!”
Carlos nodded. “Sure thing,” he said. “Though if I remember correctly it was pretty much the same as the green…. but we’ll see. With science.”
They shook their head, “I can’t do magic on myself. I can do magic on you, where you have the Ketchup, and I can also have the Ketchup and enjoy it, but if I just thought ‘hey, I would like to get Ketchup today’ I couldn’t make it. My magic is weird that way.” though… They probably could have saved so much money summoning formula for Seres. Hindsight was a big meanie
“Huh… that’s… weird,” Carlos said plainly. He didn’t know what else to think about it. “Well, we can get the green out of the way first, I guess. Ooh – purple too, now that I think about it.”
“we will have all the Ketchup at the same time, we will just have the green Ketchup for not as long. Like it shouldn’t take more than a day, right? We can keep it for a week or so if that makes it easier?”
“No, but you just said you can’t taste it because you can’t conjure food for yourself,” Carlos said. “Didn’t you?”
“I don’t think so. I mean, if we ate a thing, we wouldn’t be hungry. Though I can’t use my magic on myself, or I would not have starved so much before I met you. Summoning food for myself would have been great, really.”
“But taste is part of the test, isn’t it? The data will be skewed if we can’t do all the same tests with it as any other ketchup.”
They paused, not really having considered that, “It’s sort of like… I open a pocket dimension where I temporarily have the Ketchup and once we are no longer inside of it, we never had it, but we have the memories of having it? I think?”
“So the actual liquid will just… disappear from our stomaches?” Carlos asked. That was… kinda gross, actually.
They shook their head, “It doesn’t work that way. It’s a temporary spell, so once it’s over, the bottle will be back where it was meant to exist in its time, like we never even tampered with it.”
Carlos was quiet for a moment. “Including the ketchup we eat from inside of it?”
