“So a standard kitchen timer it is,” Carlos said. “I’ll put it on the list.”

“Well I don’t want to scold them or anything. It’s my job to whisper nice things and feed. That’s how they grow big and strong.” They had the sudden thought of what they could do to discourage the screaming. Themself and Carlos. It made them get flushed, then it made their stomach tighten with nerves
“It’s okay to tell them no – you don’t have to be mean about it,” Carlos said. “We tell Seres not to touch the cabinets without an adult around, right?”
“Do you think we’re like the scare-grow?” they giggled, “Maybe they won’t scream at us if we just stand here and don’t show them the tea.”
“Maybe,” Carlos said. “Add that to your experiment list. It’d also be good if they didn’t always associate our presence with food – we’d never get anything done.”
“science could wait until I’m done snuggling you.” they reasoned, “if time is still ongoing, so is science.”
Carlos chuckled. “Okay then… how long do you plan on snuggling then? With the succulents watching?”
“You’re so good.” they still didn’t leave Carlos’ arms
“So are you, babe,” Carlos responded. He grinned slightly. “Comfy, where you are?”
They tried not to melt in Carlos’ arms, they had science to do. “I need to write down the results of the succulent water experiment.” they said, not leaving Carlos’ embrace
“Alright,” Carlos said as he pressed a kiss to the top of their head. “I’ll get you a not-pen and a composition notebook. You can put your name on it and everything.”
They laughed, leaning in to kiss Carlos gently, “That was a good one. I even understood it and everything.”
Carlos just grinned at them and put an arm around the to hug them. “I’m glad you liked that,” he said.
They gently put the succulent piece back down, gently running their fingertips over all the babies, “If we come back in the morning and they’re huge, I will have no regrets.”
Magnus would not have regrets, but might. Just so long as they weren’t dangerous, he supposed…
“Let’s hope everything goes well while working with them,” Carlos said with a smile.
Magnus bit their lip as they considered, them leaned in close and mimicked the best thunder sound they could manage. The succulent didn’t seem to react at all, “Yeah, I think it’d be okay.”
Carlos chuckled. “Alright, then… I guess we’re doing that. I can rig up a water spout and waterproof speaker system for you, no problem.”
“I mean, if they yell for food, I don’t think I’ll have the heart to say no.” they gave a little spritz to quiet them slightly, “I think… Maybe if we have a sprayer on a timer like they do in the grocery store with vegetables.”
Carlos grinned. “Thunder noises included?” he asked cheekily.
