*Max looked over the side of the branch* Carlos? *he was pretty high up there..* (pft-)

*very confused – he hears Max’s voice but isn’t sure where he is.* Max? Where are you? Some anons told me you were in a tree and I was concerned…

i’m am in a tree! look up here- *he throws an acorn down by Carlos, almost falling off the branch in the process* shyt-

*he looks up and yelps* Max, be careful! What are you doing up there??

*he hugs the trunk of the tree* i am! and.. i don’t really remember.. good news is i made friends with a squirrel!

Oh! Well that’s always… nice. Heh, I told the grey-faces that you were avoiding them.

*he chuckles* well, can’t it be both?

*chuckles back* I just wanted to make sure you were doing okay, Max. Though I’m not sure a tree is entirely safe.

yeaah.. it’s a miracule i haven’t fallen to my probably death if not serious injury yet.. *he shuttered slightly* truth is, i’m kinda stuck..

Well, come on down. I’ll be here to help you out. *smiles*

No- I don’t think- I don’t know.

Well…. if it is, let me know, okay?

*peeks into the pot* The ice is melted. Wanna feel the water? See if it’s cool enough?

*Max stuck his hand in the water before grabbing three(3) more ice cubes and tossing them in* almost.

Alright. *Carlos grabs an ice cube out of the pitcher and pops it in his mouth, crunching it with his teeth.*

Have you ever tried the hairspray lighter thing? *max took one of the ice cubes and put it in his mouth*

Yes, and it is very dangerous. I suggest, before doing that, you find a nice open space away from anything flammable. *how can one be noisy eating ice? Who knows, but Carlos is noisy*

Well that’s damn impossible since this is the middle of the forrest almost.

Well, then wait until you can find a nice parking lot to do it in. With adult supervision.

That’s not as fun..

… You could set up a tower of paper cups to hit with the flames?

“U-um…” The little boy approached Carlos. He looked like…. Max..? “Sir..?” He gently pulled on Carlos’ sleeve to get his attention. He even sounded like Max! “Have you… maybe.. seen my cat?” (ihopethisisgoodyoudonthavetoanswer-) ((@reversemaxsearchhistory))

Carlos looked down at the boy, a little surprised by his apparent sheepishness. Max was usually more confident than this.

Immediately Carlos turned to face him fully. “Hey – no, I haven’t seen a cat. What does it look like? Do you need help looking for it?”

@reversemaxsearchhistory

“Th-they…”
Max shivered, clearly fighting back tears as he tried his best not to
cry. “Sometimes they h-hit me… or.. lock me outside and don’t let me
ba-back in…” He whimpered, tears slowly forming in his eyes.

What in the actual hell? Carlos thought angrily. That was unacceptable. “I am so sorry to hear that, Max,” he said softly. “You’re right – that is not something parents do.”

He pulled down the collar of his sweater to reveal a red mark around his neck. “S-sometimes…” He started, choking back tears. “Sometimes they’d even… e-even..” He couldn’t even finish the sentence. Tears rolled down his cheeks and he shook, quietly sobbing.

Carlos reached into his pocket for his packet of tissues. He noted that he was running out as he pulled one out and offered it to Max. “Here you go, buddy,” he said softly. “It’s okay – you don’t have to tell me right now.” Carlos could already guess. That was just… not acceptable in any sense of the word. Something had to be done to protect Max. After they found his cat, Carlos was going to have to sit down with him and talk seriously with the boy.

He thankfully accepted the tissue and quickly dried his eyes. “Thanks Carlos…” After having dried his eyes he smiled softly, “Can we go find my cat now..?”

“Sure,” Carlos said, offering the kid a smile back. “Does she answer to her name at all? Sabrina, I mean?”

He nodded, his soft smile not leaving his face. “Yes, she does!”

“Alright. Let’s try calling out for her, then. Go ahead, Max.” The cat was more likely to react to Max’s voice than to Carlos’.

“Alright.” He cleared his throat before calling out to Sabrina. It took few tries but after sometime a quiet meowing could be heard from nearby bushes.

“I think I hear something, Max,” Carlos said.
