why do i feel like i would rather run away-
You want to –? Max, I’m not going to hurt you. But I do have something very serious to discuss with you.
Where are you getting the alcohol, Max?

Wha? Um, I guess? I… what happened, Max?
*he chuckles* you don’t have to worry about me resting, i won’t be ju- falling off any roofs anytime soon..!
Or doing much of anything else, right? Gosh, after you get that cast off there’ll be physical therapy to worry about. I should probably read up on that…
physical therapy? what? i’ve broken alot of bones before but i’ve never gone to ‘physical therapy’.. *he glanced away*
Well, it’s just to help you build up your muscle again so you don’t break or strain so soon. I’ll help, don’t worry. You, uh… I did notice that you already do get in a lot of ‘accidents’, Max, so I”m not surprised you’ve broken something before.

i uhh.. fell off the roof a couple days ago..
Doing what? Wait – gimme the marker, I still want to sign.
*he hands the marker over before pulling his sleeve up* .. does it matter..?
I would like to know… did you go to the hospital for this? *he starts to draw a dinosaur with really short arms on the cast*
of course i went to hospital, i couldn’t walk around with three broken- *he stops himself, a clear ‘oh shyt’ look on his face*
*Carlos just looks at him* I’m glad to hear you went to a hospital. What did they say you broke? *he’s trying not to look judgemental, because he isn’t judging. At least, not as much as Max might fear. He just wants to know what happened and what Max is facing in terms of healing*
*he glanced away* three broken ribs…
*frowns. That… was pretty scary.* That must’ve been some fall, Max… I’m glad you got patched up though.
*he nods* yeah.. *he looks down at his cast, frowning softly*
*Carlos finishes signing. The Dinosaur is reaching for a star, but its arms are too short so it looks silly. Carlos wrote “Reach for the stars! Feel better soon!” and then his name.* There you go… *he smiles at Max*
*he chuckles softly as he looks at the dinosaur* thanks Carlos
Do you need anything? Pain killers or anything?
*he shakes his head* nah, i still have the painkillers the hospital gave me
Okay. Well, if you need me to pick up anything let me know.
*he nods, pulling his sleeve down again* alright, thanks
dadCarlos
you’re welcome, buddy. Do you need help doing anything? You should probably sit down and read or something… Just to help let yourself heal.
I…guess I could be feeling better-
Do you need water or anything? Maybe you should go home…?
Carlos looked to her, a little big concerned. “Uh… do you need to?” he asked her. “Are you okay?”
“The twins are nearly fluent, and the rest except for Caoden speak a smattering. So they’ll all be able to help you translate.” She gave him a thoughtful look, considering something. “Or, if you’d like, there is something I can give you. The children should all learn it naturally, but I can have translators made for emergencies.”
Carlos looked at her. “Translators?” he asked. “Like, what are we talking? Magic or tech?”
“Yes?” came the response after Mia had thought for a moment. “It’s a function that can be programmed into communiscanners, like what one of my earrings turns into.” In demonstration, she flicked one of the hoops dangling from her ear, allowing a small holographic computer screen to appear in front of her eye as the earring itself transformed into an earbud with a thin wire attaching a microphone to her lower jaw.
Carlos blinked. He gave a low whistle. “Wow, that’s impressive,” he said. He wanted to reach out and touch… but he wasn’t going to do that without permission. But God, it looked so cool… “So… it’s like an App for your… communiscanners then?”
Carlos looked to her, a little big concerned. “Uh… do you need to?” he asked her. “Are you okay?”
“Jade is okay with the other children, yes. Recently she’s been in to listening to lots of music, but won’t play anything herself.” Mia shrugged, looking at her friend. “You are sure you don’t mind watching the children? It could be as long as two of your weeks if things go badly.”
“I’ve gotten a hang of it the first time,” Carlos said. “I think I can get Jade to help a bit too. Not too much, but you know – make her feel responsible.”
“That would be much appreciated,” she replied, ears perking up a little. And then she seemed to think of something, because her expression took on a decidedly sheepish look. “Jade only speaks Mayanaira. She understands some English, though. Will that be a problem?”
Carlos frowned. “Uh… a bit,” he admitted. “Do the other kids speak Mayanaira?” It’d be cool if he had some sort of thought-reading device to use, but alas… he didn’t.

Yondu hums a bit as they cook and eat beasie worms. He turns looking at carlos and smiles.
Carlos caught Yondu’s eye and smiled back. “Hey, you,” he said quietly.
Smiles back. “You know I’ve been waiting for my welcome back hug or kiss. Still haven’t gotten one. Should I be offended?” Teases.
Carlos thought that was a bit forward. But then he realized that Yondu was probably teasing. “I dunno… it’s up to you if you want to be offended.”
