☝️ – Tap my muse on the shoulder

Newt had been walking down the street, case in hand when he suddenly felt a tap on his shoulder. He paused, not sure who was there, but he turned to see–

“Carlos?” He asked in disbelief. It had been ages since he’d last seen the man. What were the chances of seeing him again?

The thin man smiled softly, and looked down shyly. “I’ve been keeping busy.” He replied, rubbing the back of his neck. “Lots of studying, lots of writing, lots of traveling.” He said, and glanced up at the man.

“What’s new with you?” He asked.

Carlos smiled slightly. “Well, um… I’ve been studying, myself,” he said. “Trying to hone my metal-charming as No-Maj technology around us marches forward, you know? I applied for a couple new patents for some charmed equipment that I invented.”

Carlos forgot how shy and awkward Newt would appear when you spoke to him. But if Carlos remembered correctly now, that was just how Newt was.

The man nodded, and glanced around as people passed them by. “That’s good.” He said, nodding a little. “And how’s your father?” He asked, tilting his head. “Are you having any more problems with the shed?”

Carlos shook his head. “No, no problems. We’ve learned how to spot bundimun rot so we’re able to keep them at bay. And keep them hidden from our neighbors. And Dad and Mikey are doing well. Thanks for asking.”

Newt smiled, and nodded. “That’s good.” He replied happily. “How are things in America? After the incident in New York, I came home, and I haven’t been able to return.” He explained.

Carlos shrugged slightly. “I don’t pay too much attention to politics, but I don’t think much has changed from a year ago. Some anti-magic cult had been destroyed, but that just seemed to fuel wizard elitists’ ideals.” He then gave a wry smile. “And I still can’t legally get a puffskein, even if I wanted to. So there’s that.”

Carlos was holding some tension in his frame, unsure and a little anxious of how Newt would react. But being recognized helped to get rid of some of it almost right away and Carlos greeted Newt with a wide grin.

“Hey Newt… Long time no see.”

The man chuckled softly, nodding. “It has… what are you doing in London? I never expected to find you here.” He asked, shaking his hand

Carlos returned the handshake, friendly but not too firm. “Well, I’m uh… I came to attend a… a show. A demonstration.” Carlos couldn’t remember how Newt felt about No-maj technology, even though he’d met his family, so he didn’t immediately say what it was. “I’m surprised to run into you though – I did wonder if you’d be here, but I know you’re a traveling man with a passion. But when I saw your blue coat I recognized it almost immediately.”

Newt smiled at the explanation, and blushed at the man’s words. “I suppose it is rather noticeable, isn’t it?” He asked, rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly. “It’s nice to see you though, Carlos. It’s been a long time.” He added.

Carlos just smirked at Newt’s apparent self-conciousness. “I missed the coat,” he said. He then added with exaggerated chargin, “I guess I missed you too.” Carlos smiled again to show that he was teasing.

“So… what’s new with Newt?” he asked.

“Superheroes everywhere were just offended. I hope you’re proud of yourself.”

“Sorry, sorry.. I’m not wearing my glasses, my vision is awful..!“ Maven chuckled awkwardly, scratching the back of his neck.

Carlos grinned. “I was teasing, buddy. Where are your glasses?”

“I have.. no idea.“ A slightly nervous grin formed on his face, “I bet one of the campers hid them somewhere.. again.“

“Oh boy… well, do you want help looking for them? Do you have back-ups?”

“Yeah, yeah I have back-ups.“ Maven sighed, absentmindedly glancing left and right. “I bet Nikki took them… I mean, she also stole most of David’s money to buy Barbie dolls just to burn and break them while yelling ‘I am your god now!’…!“

“Well, okay… um. Let’s get one of your back-ups so you can see. Any idea where she might have taken them? I’ll help you look.”

“She could’ve taken them anywhere, really… but most plausible would be the cave she found the camp’s mascot on. She takes a lot of stuff there.“

“Okay. Well, we’ll go ahead and go there first. Nothing lives in the cave now, I’m assuming?”

“Well, apart from a few strange bugs it should be empty.“

“That’s good. Alright – Lead the way, Maven.”

Maven nodded with a grin, hiking to where the cave was. He was slow enough for Carlos to catch up, but not too slow.

Carlos didn’t have any trouble keeping up with Maven as they hiked. He looked around at their surroundings, trying to memorize where they were going in reference to the camp.

“Your daughter goes to camp, right? She’s a real sweetheart.“

“Oh – do you know her?” Carlos asked, looking at Maven.

Why the hell – Max? Max, where are you buddy? I need to know how you’re feeling.

@dedmaxsearchhistory

*he nods* alright, let my grab my wallet then we can go

Oh – you don’t have to, Max! I would have paid for it! *he smiles at the kid*

wh- really? you don’t too..

It’s okay, Max. I’m very willing. *He just continues smiling* I’d like to, if you’re comfortable with it. Or at least buy part of it for you.

*he smiled softly* yeah alright, then let’s go..!

*nods* Alright. Is Daniel going to be alright here by himself?

he should be, he has everything he needs here..

Okay then. My car’s in the usual spot – not very far.

*he nodded and stepped out of the tent, waiting for Carlos*

*Carlos followed after Max and buttoned up the tent so that Daniel couldn’t get out.*

As the summer days rolled by, a full moon crept closer and closer. Thankfully, the woods surrounding the camp were large and caves were scatted everywhere, maybe Carlos could wait this out in a cave? all he had to do was find one and hope some other animal didn’t make its home there, right? -(the worse starter maker) L

Carlos wandered through the forest. He knew he’d seen a cave somewhere – it looked like an old bear cave, though he hadn’t gone in it before. He wanted to be as far away from his camp and the summer camps, in case the children had an idea to wander around at night to hunt for snipes. The full moon would make visibility perfect for it, so it was a reasonable concern in Carlos’ mind.

He finally came across the cave he was looking for. And not too soon either – the moon would rise probably within the next ten minutes. Carlos ventured forth, holding his flashlight up to search the inside of the cave. Hopefully it was empty. Could a werewolf beat a bear? Maybe?

he moved to his side, curiously sniffing him though he did seem concerned

Carlos struggled a bit, but was finally able to push his arms through the sleeves and smooth down his shirt proper. He took a deep breath, but then regretted it when the musky, sickening smell of the leg was detected.

“Oh god… that’s… that’s rank…” He futilely covered his nose, trying to block it out.

he sat down, glancing at the leg before giving him a confused look

Carlos tried to breathe through his mouth, calming himself. He then looked at Drake. “Um… thank you… but really, I’m okay. I shouldn’t eat things like this. But… I appreciate the gesture?” He was aware that Drake might not understand him, but what was there for him to do?

he tilted his head slightly before licking the side his head, making some his hair stand up in odd directions

This shocked Carlos. He was frozen as the affection was given to him. “Uh, o-okay. That was, um… nice. Thanks…?” He reached up and pet the side of Drake’s head.

he purred loudly again, rubbing his head on the others hand til he fell over with a soft huff

Carlos chuckled. “Felt good, huh?” he asked.

“Is that a– Wait, no, just an airplane.” (( Hello! :D ))
