Peter
bites his lip not wanting to let go of Kraglin and whimpers before
sliding to his seat and fastens the seatbelt looking like he would fall
apart again.

Kraglin grabbed his seatbelt and he happened to glance at Peter again. He paused, but then came to a decision. Instead of sitting in the window seat he scoot over toward the middle and straddled his legs over the weird little hump on the floor of the vehicle (why the hell was that thing there? To make children rebel, he supposed). He put on the little waist belt there, feeling incredibly awkward with his long legs, and then reached to put an arm around Peter’s shoulder.

Carlos looked at Kraglin through the rear-view mirror and frowned. “Kraglin, I can’t see,” he said.

“You can turn your head,” Kraglin told him a little snarkily, but he ducked his head a bit toward Peter anyway, rubbing the younger man’s shoulder.

Peter snuggles against him and looks at him. “L… Love ya…. bro….”

“C’mon, Pete… not in front of Carlos and his brother,” Kraglin said, but he still smiled at Peter and gave his shoulder a squeeze.

Carlos pulled them out of the parking lot and started to look around for the Wendy’s.

“Down the street,” Mikey told his brother helpfully.

Carlos nodded. “Thanks,” he said and started to drive. ‘Sorry… still trying to get my bearings.”

Peter nods. “Sorry……forgot you…. hate sentiment….” snuggles closer to him closing his eyes. After s bit he wakes and blinks at the chocolate cone being handed to him and he smiles licking at it.

The ice cream in Kraglin’s cone looked a little sad, he thought. It wasn’t piled up high like ice cream was supposed to be. But Mikey was already slurping down his, and so was Carlos. Kraglin tried it and, yeah, it was sweet enough. Okay, he could eat this. He started to lick at it, awkwardly dipping his tongue down into the “waffle cone”, as it was called.

“I’m going to park us back outside the store again and we’ll just sit and eat,” Carlos said. He handed his cone to Mikey to hold and drove them back to the store.

Peter eats the icecream finishing it in record time before snuggling up against Kraglin waiting on them stealing a lick of kraglins cone just because.

Kraglin snarled at him, but it was in complete jest. If the kid wanted more ice cream, he could have it – Kraglin could just bully Carlos into getting them more.

“This stuff tastes really sweet,” he told Carlos. “And the edible cup it comes in – that’s genius.”

Carlos smiled. “Glad you like it, Kraglin.”

Steals another lick then snuggles up against him closing his eyes to relax until everyone else was ready. He was calmer thankfully but still a bit jittery. “You won’t ever leave me right bro.”

Kraglin looked down at Peter. He smiled very slightly and shook his head. “Not if I help it,” he told Peter softly.  He finished his ice cream and just held Peter as they waited. “Hey, Ramon – make sure you take Yondu to that place where we got the ice cream. He’d love it.”

Carlos looked back at Kraglin. “I… guess I could take him tonight… when it’s dark so nobody sees him.”

97% sure.

Ninety-seven percent? What about the other three?

*Max shrugged* Dunno. Look, if you’re so concerned about it we can literally go over there and look.

We could? *he then frowns* I… should do it when the QM isn’t there..

I dunno when he’s not there, to be fair no one knows where he is half the time anyway.

Ugh… still, I’d better try to avoid  him. In the meantime, maybe don’t swim in the lake or do anything with it until I figure out what’s in it. Unless the case is I find out there’s something bad in it, then you ought to continue not doing anything in it.

I wanna come too. That way even if, which is impossible, the kid is a “”ghost”” we can know if only kids can see him or not. *that’s clearly not the reason he wants to come but*

What? Why on Earth do you want to come? Max, you saw some things there, and I am absolutely not willing to put you in that situation again!

I don’t want to be here. Plus, I know where to avoid, so you don’t see shit.

I’m an adult – I’m really not concerned about myself. Max, it’s illegal for you to see… stuff like that.

Then he shouldn’t be doing that at a children’s fucking summer camp.

Hey, watch– *he stopped. Max was entirely justified in swearing in this case* No, absolutely he shouldn’t be doing that! Which is why I don’t want you going back to Spooky Island.

C’mon! I have a knife stick for protection and everything!

A… a knife stick??

Yeah. A stick with a pocket knife taped to it. Knife stick.

You can’t have that anymore. Take the knife off the stick.

Oh c’mon! It’s for protection!

The knife will pop off the stick and come back at you if you try to stab anything. it’s better to just have it in your hand.

That’s happened once and no one got hurt. It’s secure to the stick now.

Max, no. Knives do not go on sticks – they’re not designed to do that!

If they’re not designed to be taped to sticks then why is mine taped to a stick, huh?

Because you did that and you’re going to hurt yourself! Take it off the stick! Where are you keeping that thing, by the way?

Why would I tell you that?

Because I’m an adult. And I’m a scientist, so I’m smart. So you should listen to me.

Your science is nothing against a knife stick.

You’re childness is nothing against my adultness.

I’m gonna keep bugging you ‘till you let me come.

And I’m going to bug you to deconstruct that dangerous weapon you made and just use the knife as a knife.

I propose a compromise; I take the knife off the stick and you let me go with you to Spooky Island. Deal?

What – No, Max, I’m not taking you to Orgy Island! I mean, Spooky Island!

But- fine. Nevermind. *he turns his attention back to the pot* do we need to put another one in?

Would you like to? It’s still your experiment. *he frowned at the kid, sad that he made him upset. But Carlos had to be responsible, and he wasn’t going to let Max to back to a place like that when he could prevent it!*

Isn’t that kinda what you need to do? To see if it’s like,, consistant or something?

Yeah. So do you wanna go for it? *smiles*

Sure. We should probably actually time it this time.

Yeah, okay. Hang on. *he gets out his phone and opens the timer* Okay, ready.

Black Hat cackled as he watched in amusement as the large robot went to attack the tresspassing human. This was fun!

“Oh my god… look at you!” Carlos exclaimed, his mouth splitting into a wide grin. “You look amazing! You look incredible – and so well-dressed! I haven’t seen a robot as amazing as you in such a long time!” Carlos was so excited – he wanted to take the time to admire the machine. But then he realized…

“Wait… you’re not stopping, are you?” he asked it as it continued toward him. He slid his camera into his pocket and took a step back, watching to see what the ‘bot would do.

The bot charged at him, its sharp claws shining in the sunlight as it grinned sadistically, reminiscent of the eldritch horror it was modeled after.

Carlos’ heart pounded and he started running. “You know, the cummerbund is a nice touch!” he called back to the robot as chased after him. “It really brings the whole aesthetic together!”

Carlos was stalling. He knew he couldn’t run forever. C’mon… his knowledge about robots had to save him somehow

“Ooch… ugh, am I?” Carlos asked. He really hadn’t to trip himself up on a curb like that, but eh… it happens. He checked his hands and then knees where he had felt some impact from the ground. His knees were scuffed up and his hands had some very minor abrasions.

“I think I’m okay,” he said, just as he investigated a slight stinging in his elbow. “Oh wait…” A small red blotch was starting to grow just under the white fabric of his coat.

“Ah, fffuck.” said Sylvain, his hand straying towards the spreading blotch, before drawing back. “Ah, you should put pressure on that. Do you need me to call someone?”

“It shouldn’t be bad,” Carlos said, still looking at his arm. He tugged on his sleeve and slid his arm out, exposing the blue sleeve of his tshirt, and he turned his arm to look at the injury. He made a small ‘tsk’ noise. “The friction from my coat must’ve caused an abrasion. Ouch… I ought to wash that out as soon as I can.”
