*Max
waved as he ran towards the mess hall, and after a quick lunch, he went
back to his tent, grabbing his notebook and drawing while waiting for
Carlos*

*Carlos comes back later than what would have probably been
expected. His car drives up the way and parks near the mess and the flagpole.
He hops out running over to Max.* Sorry! I thought the Volcano was doing
something and I lost track of time – I’m sorry I’m a little late!

*he rubbed his eyes and looked up at the other* oh it’s.. *he chuckled slightly, setting his notebook aside as he got up* it’s alright! you’re now, right? let me just put my book away and we can go

You wanna bring it? I’ll be driving, and it’s a little bit
to head into town.

*he thinks for a moment and shrugs, tucking it under his arm and smiling*

*Carlos grins* Alright, let’s go! *he heads to his car and
opens the front passenger door for Max* Make sure to get your seatbelt on,
kiddo.

Will it? Oh, that’s good to hear!

*he
watches as Carlos runs off, sniffling slightly.. oh, oh no Max please
don’t- he starts crying, tightly holding onto Angies shirt*

A: Oh, Maxy! It’s okay! Papa’s gonna be back soon! *she
tries to gently bounce him, though with her size it quickly becomes a bit
difficult. She instead sits on a log and holds him close, still cooing at him.*
Papa’s just getting his car! Then we can go to the store and get you all sorts
of nice things! You know, daddy got me a blanket with science stuff on it for
my first birthday – I still have it! I didn’t bring it though – I wish I did.
Then you could use it!

*he calms down slightly, still tightly holding onto the other* pa.. papa…

*Angie blinks at him and gasps, but then smiles widely* You
talked! Oh, cute! What else can you say, Maxy? Can you say ‘Angie’?

*he looks up at her, tears still running down his face as he whimpers slightly*

Oh… it’s okay, Maxy! Don’t cry… Papa’s coming back! *she
uses her thumbs to brush the tears from his face, wiping them away in his
shirt*

A Holiday Surprise (closed w/ selfmedicatingmayor)

Carlos grabbed the chopsticks and a bowl in each hand before
turning to head over to the couch. He smiled at Hancock as he a bowl down in
front of him and offered a set of chopsticks to him – one of the closest
matching sets he could find.

“Thanks, sweetheart.” The ghoul replied as he took the chopsticks, before even taking a look at the food in front of him. When he finally looked down and noticed the noodles, his face lit up. “Oh shit, I didn’t even realize–– when’d you sneak off to get these? Thank you, sunshine, you spoil me, heh.”

Carlos smiled at him. “I like spoiling you when I can,” he
told the ghoul as he sat down beside him with his own bowl and chopsticks. “And
I actually didn’t go anywhere. While I was bartering with Daisy and giving her
some orders to fill, I asked if she could have one of her runners pop into
Diamond City for a couple bowls of noodles.” He gently nudged Hancock’s elbow
affectionately and then just decided to lean in and kiss his cheek.

Carlos grinned again. “It’s kinda nice,” Carlos said. “I
like seeing all the order and knowing that things are connected in a special
way. I can’t tell you how many cars or machines that I’ve seen that just made
me sad looking at them. I’ve always wanted to ride in a car.”

Carlos took the casing off and set it to the side, upside
down as a make-shift tray for parts. A thought occurred to him. “Oh – can you
get me a bowl for the screws I get out?” he asked Hancock. “I’m sorry; I didn’t
think of it until now.”

“Wait, is the inside of a car messy? Never really looked in one’a them either, never had a reason since they don’t exactly run, y’know? I’ve always wanted to ride in one too, wonder if I ever will.”

At Carlos’ request, Hancock got up and headed over to the cabinet to grab a bowl, carrying it back over and setting it down beside the other man as he took his seat on the floor again. “This work well enough? Don’t need a couple for different sizes? I dunno if that’s a thing, heh.”

“This will do great – I can tell which screws go where,”
Carlos told him, giving him a smile. “Thanks!” He started to undo screws on the
piece and dropped them into the bowl.

“About the cars… I get sad because they don’t run. Now they’re just miniature nuclear reactors
waiting to go off because they can’t be properly contained. And without working
parts… they’re of course completely useless.”

Yondu
offered a smile back but it felt fake. “Yeah that sounds good…thank
you. I shouldn’t complain about anything served and free.”

Mr Ramon considered Yondu for a moment. “We… could always do
it another day,” he said. “If you’d rather go back to your… ship and take a
breather.”

“I made a promise…… if I go back to my ship… we’ll…. it may be a long time before I’m seen again…..”

Carlos’ shoulders started to slump. Yondu really didn’t want to be here. Carlos
thought he had appealed to his sentimentality, but…  he was just staying to make Carlos happy,
wasn’t he? Well… Carlos wasn’t happy.
Especially not since Yondu was being this way.

“You really hate it here, don’t you?” Carlos asked him softly.
“I’m sorry… I thought you would have wanted to spend more time with me. But if
that’s not the case, then… I’m not going to make you stay here, Yondu.”

“Quick, take my hand, it’s urgent!” (whispers-of-change)

She smiled back at him and nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, I think you’re right,” she agreed. Wait, had- Had Carlos said the D word? Had she
said the D word? Were they actually discussing the possibility of…
dating? “So- So wait, are- are we actually talking about… the
possibility of, like… starting… something?” she asked, voice nervous.

It was Carlos’ turn to be bashful. He dropped his gaze and
reached up to scratch his cheek. “Well… I’ don’t know,” he said honestly. “I
mean, there certainly is a possibility…
but at this point in time I am unable to calculate exactly the variables
and percentages with which I can articulate our chances. I would require more
time with you… more outings… more, um… more dates.” A thought occurred to him
and he grinned. “I guess you could say… I need more date-a!”

“I’m thinking about giving that whole bee music THING  a chance again. I kinda brushed it off as a FAD at first and never really gave it a—-,” A yawn pulled itself from his lips in the middle of his sentence, arms stretching above his head, “—A PROPER listen, y’know?” The blonde babbled away, watching as Carlos checked his various beakers and tubes and INSTRUMENTS all of witch beeped and wizzed at seemingly random increments of time. It was simply INCREDIBLE that Calos apparently knew what each sound meant.

Carlos hummed as Cecil gabbed on. Some of his hums were in
responses to Cecil’s mostly rhetorical questions and comments, but some were for
his science. So he said ‘Hmm’ a lot more than he usually would have, and as
always he wrote down numbers and symbols that were not numbers in his
composition notebook with an instrument that was clearly labeled with bright
orange tape and black ink stating that it was ‘NOT A PEN’.

“Bee music?” Carlos then asked suddenly, not looking at
Cecil. “Like… Flight of the Bumblebee?”

“Quick, take my hand, it’s urgent!” (whispers-of-change)

“O-
Okay, but… please let me know if that was… inappropriate for me to
say,” she said quietly. “I really hope I didn’t make you uncomfortable…”

It did, but that’s all
on my part
, Carlos thought to himself. He still smiled at her. “No worries,”
he told her. “I ought to be flattered, shouldn’t I?”

“Well I don’t know if you ought to be anything,” she said quietly. “If I made things uncomfortable for you, I sincerely apologize, and you don’t have to thank me for that, just for the sake of being polite. I- I am sorry, I’ve… obviously made a mistake, and I’ve obviously made you uncomfortable, and… Please, don’t feel obligated to thank me…”

Carlos was starting to panic and his smile slipped from his
face. “No, no, I promise, it’s okay!” he said quickly. “I just – look, it’s me, okay? I-I just – I have trouble
really believing what you’re saying.
Make sense? Nobody’s ever said those sort of things to me before…  and it’s all just a bit much for me to accept
with any grace is all.”

She could see the panic. And hear it in his voice. Oh man. Now she really had messed all of this up. He sounded upset. “O- Okay, well, I, um… If it helps anything, I- I did mean what I said. I’ve- I’ve had a crush on you for a couple weeks now, and I was really nervous about this meet up, which is why I’m… way overdressed, and… Why I was rude and didn’t wait for you to get here before ordering, because I really needed the tea to soothe my nerves, and- and why I got nervous and just kept blurting all those compliments out. I… I meant every word of it… But now I feel like I’ve upset you and I’ve ruined everything, and- Look, maybe it is just a good idea for me to go, I keep messing all of this up…”

Carlos reached out and took her hand, trying to keep her sat
down. She had been babbling and honestly he only caught some of it… but he did hear that she was thinking of
leaving, which wasn’t good. “I’m not mad,” Carlos told her. “I’m not upset. I
mean it – thank you for all the nice things you said to me. I haven’t done the
dating thing for a while, so I’m kind of out of practice myself. I promise
though, nothing is ruined. You’re just fine.” He offered her a smile – a kind
one, but one that he hoped would calm her enough and convince her to stay.

Her breath caught slightly as he touched her hand. “Sorry, I… Guess I sort of panicked,” she said softly. “I haven’t done the dating thing in a while either. I guess I didn’t know exactly what to expect, so when things started going weird, I just… started freaking out. Thank you for… being so understanding.”

Carlos smiled a bit wider. “Of course,” he said to her. “It’s
okay – it’s completely okay, I promise. I think I recall that dating is
supposed to be fun… not perfect. Right?”
