“Okay. Do you need some water? My papa always told me to make sure to drink water when I’m not feeling good – it’s to keep me hydrageratred.”
“Well, you have to stay because I’m staying here,” Carlos said, rolling his eyes. “C’mon, it’ll be fun – there’s loads of activities here – I’m sure you’ll find something to like!”
“Dios mio, how old is that thing?” Maria whispered. It looked older than the tv at their Abuela’s house and that was sayinging something.
“Why, it’s been here since I was a camper here at Camp Campbell!” David told her, eyes becoming far away and starry. “Our wonderful founder Cameron Campbell bought it himself. Oh, if only he could be here now. But he’s off adventuring and not hiding from government officials.”
“Riiiiight…” Maria trailed off as she looked up to the man and then back to Carlos. “So.. camp tour?”
“In a minute – after the… is that really a laserdisk?” Carlos suddenly asked, watching Gwen pick up the round vinyl-like object.
“Yeah,” Gwen said as she opened the player. “One of the only things that still works here…”
She put the disk in and turned on the TV. But when the disk started to spin there was suddenly a low grinding noise and a couple of sharp snaps before the disk stopped moving. Gwen stared at the player in disbelief and opened it to pull out the disk. However, when she picked up the disk, half of it broke off and fell to the ground with a shatter.
“Yikes,” the girl said with a small wince. That thing had to have been super old.
“Well let’s get on with the tour shall we?” David said, quickly ushering Maria and Carlos along outside.
Carlos frowned at the laser disk in sadness – he actually wanted to experience watching a laser disk, since some people didn’t get that opportunity. But he stuck near Maria as they headed outside.
That last statement Gwen had made seemed kind of foreboding, but Carlos wasn’t going to admit it – he wasn’t going to give Maria more excuses to leave.
“Well, you have to stay because I’m staying here,” Carlos said, rolling his eyes. “C’mon, it’ll be fun – there’s loads of activities here – I’m sure you’ll find something to like!”

“Gwen!” David greeted happily. “This is Carlos and this is Maria.”
“Please tell me you are at least sane.” Maria towards the woman pleadingly. “He’s too happy to be real.”
“Why thank you! Now, why don’t I tell you both all about Camp Campbell! I even have this song…” David said, starting to pull a guitar from no where seemingly.
“No songs,” Gwen interrupted him, completely unapologetically. “I just helped Dolph clean up some of the paint that Nurf made him eat so I’m not in the mood.”
Carlos was staring at the neck of the guitar sprouting from somewhere behind David’s legs. How on Earth…?
“Oh dear…” David trailed off before shaking his head and beaming at Maria. In a rapid motion he produced a button and stuck it her shirt. “Well, that aside, let’s get these two orientated!”
First Day of Camp! Cute. Maria sighed loudly. “Okay, let’s get this over with.”
“I’ll get the laserdisk,” Gwen said with a sigh and went off to the supply closet.
Carlos tried to shake off his confusion about the guitar and just looked at David. “Uh, is… there already a problem with bullying here?” he asked. “Gwen mentioned that Nurf kid…”
“Nurf has his issues but he’s working on them. I’m so proud of his progress. He’s never seriously injured anyone though so you don’t need to worry.” David explained easily.
“I can deal with bullies Carlos. Plus, I’m sure he just needs a friend.” Maria shrugged, looking at brother.
“That’s the spirit, kiddo!” David cheered.
Carlos just hummed, unconvinced. If this kid gave Maria any trouble, he was intervening. Her safety was first, before ‘friendship’.
Gwen rolled pushed in a TV on a steel rolling stand.
“Well, you have to stay because I’m staying here,” Carlos said, rolling his eyes. “C’mon, it’ll be fun – there’s loads of activities here – I’m sure you’ll find something to like!”

As if on cue, the door flew open revealing a tall, thin man who was grinning broadly at the sight of them.
“Carlos! I’m so happy to have here with us at Camp Campbell!” The man
said brightly, shaking Carlos’ hand far too enthusiastically before
bending down in front of Maria. “And you must be Maria! I’m David and
we’re also very excited to have you join our group of campers!”The girl blinked rapidly before leaning around David to look at her brother “Absolutamente jodidamente no.”
“Cállate y siéntate,” Carlos told her. He smiled at David. “I’m sure she’s going to have lots of fun here,” he said. “Hey, uh… where’s the other counselor? I though there were two adults here…”
Maria grumbled but still sat down at a table. She knew she’d have been grounded for saying that at home, so she was really pushing her luck.
“Gwen should be along soon, don’t you worry!” David said, not seeming deterred by the exchange.
“Uh, alright,” Carlos said. He glanced at Maria then back at David. “So, where are the other…”
“DAVID! Don’t fucking leave me with –”
The woman who had burst through the door paused when she saw Carlos and Maria there. She groaned and scrubbed at her face with one of her hands. “Christ, that’s right… new campers.”
Carlos frowned at her. “Uh, actually, I’m the assistant counselor,” he said to her. He tugged at his green camp shirt to illustrate.

((here’s some drawings of Carlos and Angela in the Camp Camp AU.
There’s also a sketch of a scene from a thread I did with @sungpraise, where baby!Carlos (a senior in high school) is talking with (closeted) baby!David (who I think is a junior). I should have uploaded this one earlier… like, a LOT earlier…
Yeah, high school Carlos still has a mustache and goatee.
Drawn by me.
