As the summer days rolled by, a full moon crept closer and closer. Carlos wandered through the forest. He knew he’d seen a cave somewhere – it looked like an old bear cave, though he hadn’t gone in it before. He wanted to be as far away from his camp and the summer camps, in case the children had an idea to wander around at night to hunt for snipes. The full moon would make visibility perfect for it, so it was a reasonable concern in Carlos’ mind.

He finally came across the cave he was looking for. And not too soon either – the moon would rise probably within the next ten minutes. Carlos ventured forth, holding his flashlight up to search the inside of the cave. Hopefully it was empty. Could a werewolf beat a bear? Maybe?

he moved to his side, curiously sniffing him though he did seem concerned

Carlos struggled a bit, but was finally able to push his arms through the sleeves and smooth down his shirt proper. He took a deep breath, but then regretted it when the musky, sickening smell of the leg was detected.

“Oh god… that’s… that’s rank…” He futilely covered his nose, trying to block it out.

he sat down, glancing at the leg before giving him a confused look

Carlos tried to breathe through his mouth, calming himself. He then looked at Drake. “Um… thank you… but really, I’m okay. I shouldn’t eat things like this. But… I appreciate the gesture?” He was aware that Drake might not understand him, but what was there for him to do?

the
beast huffed slightly as he shifted out of his sleep, tiredly looking
around the cave before stretching and yawning. dispite being told the
night before, he was still suprised to see a human sleeping in the
corner

Carlos took a little bit to finally wake up. When he did, he was sore all over. The floor hadn’t been very kind to his back, and the cold hadn’t been of much help either. Carlos was almost shivering as he sat up and tried to rub the sleep from his eyes.

he sat up when he noticed the other did, getting up before curiously sniffing and nunging him

Carlos jumped in shock, staring at the creature with wide eyes. But as memories of the night before came back he tried to relax. “Oh. It’s… it’s you.”

he chirped softly, tilting his head as he sat beside him

Carlos made a small, awkward smile. “I, uh… hope you slept better than I did.”

he looked at his sleeping spot before chriping again and looking down at him

Carlos blinked, uncertain. “Uh… I don’t… is that a yes?”

he huffed slightly as he realised they couldn’t understand each anymore, wings twitching slightly

Carlos felt bad. Drake was clearly disappointed by… something. Probably the language barrier.

“Um, well… okay. I, uh… need to get dressed so…” Carlos wasn’t sure how to ask for what he needed. He held one finger up and twirled it in a circle, hoping Drake got the idea to turn around for him.

he tilted his head, sniffing his finger before looking completely confused

Carlos laughed in disbelief as well as understanding. “Right. Um…” He carefully reached out toward the other being’s head. He was slow, his palm facing out, and he watched Drake carefully for any negative reactions.

he briefly sniffed his hand before licking it, his tail wagging happily

Carlos smiled slightly. Cute. He scratched the top of Drake’s nose. “Heh, nice boy,” he cooed, unable to help himself. Then he gently touched the side of Drake’s nose to turn his head away. “If you could… not look at me while I dress? That’d be great…”

he purred as the other scratched his nose, nuzzling his head into his hand to try and get more pets

Oops, Carlos thought to himself. He chuckled nervously. “Hey, okay – I’ll pet you some more. I just need a bit of privacy, so…” Carlos gave him a few more scritches before again gently trying to turn the beast’s head.

Thank god his current state at least negated his allergies to fur. For now.

he looked to the other side of the cave, tilting his head slightly before getting up and seemingly getting distracted by something

Oh, thank goodness.

Carlos tried to be quick to get at least his more vulnerable parts covered. He was finally able to yank on his pants and button it up before he reached for his shirt to pull it over his head.

he trotted back over to him, holding a leg of the now old corpse in his mouth before carefully dropping it by Carlos’ feet

Carlos had only just gotten his head through the hole of his shirt when the ‘treat’ was dropped in front of him. Once his eyes opened he jumped with a shout, falling backwards with much of his shirt still bunched up around his neck and arms.

the
creature til;ted its head as it sat down. it looked like it could be
another werewolf, if not for the one detail Carlos hadn’t noticed yet –
the large wings pinned its sides

it curiously sniffed at him before laying down, dull green eyes seeming to glow in the dark

Nothing was happening, and the wolf realized that the other being wasn’t acting threatening at all. He gave a low, suspicious “Boof”, but the raised fur started to go down and his tail curled against his side. His haunches sat on the ground, though his front legs still held his chest up. Carlos regarded the other being with confusion and suspicion. This seemed weird, to him. It was acting so… friendly.

it wagged its tail happily as it sat up again, wings twitching slightly as it excitedly sniffed at him again. it does seem oddly excited to find basically a trespasser in its home

Carlos made a snuffing noise as it watched the other… creature. Not bear. Definitely not. But not a wolf either, like him. He backed away a bit from the sniffing, not sure what was going on.

it tilted its head again, hesitating slightly before going back over to its unfinished meal and chirping at Carlos again

What… was it doing? Was it inviting him? No, that can’t be it.

Carlos just stayed where he was. He sat up fully. his ears up as he watched the other.

it chirped again before sniffing the dead deer and looking at him

Carlos wished that he could still talk. Or that the other creature could talk – it didn’t seem like it could. He didn’t know what it wanted or what it was telling him. But despite how good the carcass smelled to his wolf brain, his human brain wasn’t going to risk getting in a fight with this thing. He was just hoping to sleep the night away before returning to his camp, eating some human food, and getting back to work.

Silently he lay down on the ground. His eyes were still on the other creature, but other wise he was settling in for a long sit.

it huffed slightly before trotting out the cave, the creatures footsteps faded away, leaving only the sounds of the night to echo through the cave

Carlos lifted his head curiously, confused. What the hell? Did it hear something?

Slowly Carlos got up and walked toward the entrance of the cave. He stopped a moment to look at the carcass left behind. He was definitely very interested in it, but some semblence of human reasoning kept him from tearing into it and he pushed to poke his head out of the cave. He listened and sniffed the air, trying to detect anything that was out of the ordinary. He tried to get a bead on the direction that the other beast went as well. A thought in the back of his mind hoped that it hadn’t gone toward any of the camps.

smol-and-passionate:

I went to a bar for the second time in my life tonight.

It was Cosplay Night, and tonight it was dedicated to the guy who passed away. He was part of the Kid’s Heroes charity group as an in-costume character. They were having a silent auction and a fundraiser for the funeral expenses for the family. So I went with my brother, who is also part of the cosplay community (501st and Krayt Clan Mandalorian Mercenary – crossovers happen a lot with their line of work).

It was a pretty good experience. I don’t frequent bars at all – I’ve only been to one once a couple years ago – but I decided to go this time to sort of pay respect. My brother wore his 501st kit and I just threw together a closet cosplay for Fallout (pretty easy – it was my pip-boy that made it).

It was pretty fun. There was a guy in a really good Deadpool cosplay wearing one of those cheeky french maid lingerie outfits over his costume. There was another deadpool dressed as Ariel and he kept shuffling around in a little fish tail skirt. That takes dedication XD

Honestly, I’m not sure I want to do it again any time soon. The bar scene, I mean – being with cosplay folks made it good, and I felt alright with the crowd. Maybe because it was my brother’s type of crowd.

The fundraising extremely well. This community is amazing with charity work, and with it concerning the family of one of their own they were all over it.

That was my experience. I just wanted to write it down, in case you guys were wondering where things were going after what happened Tuesday night.

“I suppose that is true. Is this in reference to anything in particular, Carlos?”

Carlos sighed. “A trade went bad yesterday,” he said, looking toward the ground. “The guy took my merch and ran straight into a mine field. Needless to say, I can’t exactly go get it, or the caps he owed me… he didn’t make it very far himself. It was… wild, to say the very least.”
