There’s a small moment of confusion on her face before it is replaced with the same recognition. Kira smiles a bit, impressed that he remembered her at all.
Even if incorrectly, it was close enough.
“Kira, but yeah.” She nods happily, “It’s been awhile, I honestly didn’t expect to see you ever again!” A small giggle escapes her, “I’m afraid I cannot recall your name, I’m horrible with names. But I remember, from Concord right?”
“I’m afraid I haven’t met Myrna,” Carlos said. “Percy seems very sensible though, and very friendly, so she can’t be all that bad.” But maybe she was – Carlos didn’t know. It was just usually Mr Handy units were about as friendly as their owners wanted them to be.
“If I find you a book I’ll be happy to help explain baseball to you,” Carlos then said with a slight smile. “I played it every so often – they though really I prefer soccer. But my pal Ralphie – he was obsessed with the game and would get very competitive. It was pretty funny sometimes.” He sighed. “As for Moe… according to my history class, I think maybe he’d prefer ancient Rome to actual baseball. He seems to be really enamored with the blood and guts side of sports… and Rome had plenty of that.”
Kira chuckles a bit, “Mmm, Myrna and I don’t get along. She’s a bit overzealous for my tastes. So maybe she’s just rude to me?” She chuckles once more before sipping her tea.
“But I will agree that Percy is rather nice, regardless of how Myrna feels about me or my clients. She might like you, though don’t be surprised if she’s suspicious towards you. She has a real bad ‘witch hunt’ vibe about her. Part of the ‘synth fever’ everyone has around here.”
Yes, it seemed everyone around here was paranoid about it. And perhaps Kira would be too if she wasn’t formerly Brotherhood. Or if she had anyone valuable to her that could be or was replaced. But now that she knew so many synths and how kind they could be, Kira knew that she couldn’t switch opinion if she tried.
“Really now?” She smiles, “That’s rather kind of you. And if you played it, perhaps you’ll be better at explaining it than a book. Can you play with two people?” Kira asks curiously, knowing fully well she had very little athletic prowess. The only thing that she had going for her is that she was rather speedy when she wanted to be.
“Mmm, yes. He’s got the attitude of a sportsman. But I think that he’d be much more interested in history. Chock full of blood and war. But I don’t think he’d take my word for it.” She giggles to the other, “Perhaps you may have better luck.”
Carlos grinned at her. “You can try to play with two people,
but it’s really works better with at least ten,” he said. “The ideal is
eighteen so you can have a person on each base, a catcher behind the batter, a
pitcher, and others scattered in the field. It also helps to have an umpire to
make sure things are fair and to make calls on fouls or you’ll just have
baseball teams fighting… then it will
be like what Moe describes, heh.”
He hadn’t thought about it, but he realized there was a lot
about baseball to talk about. It’ll prove to be a long talk, he realized.
He then looked at Kira. “What’s… what is with the, uh… ‘Synth Fever’? I don’t
understand what all that means… what’s a Synth?”
