“How are you going to do your experiments without a control to compare against?”

“I have to get creative. Creativity and science go hand in hand, Carlos.”

“Of course it does. I’m just concerned that because you’re experimenting on yourself… things could be mishandled and could go wrong?”

“I’ve experimented on so many life forms, myself will be no different! Have some faith in me!”

Carlos just looked at him, not entirely convinced. “I mean… Okay. Just… just try to be careful, Dr Flug.”

“People have called me a ‘hero’ before… but honestly I’m pretty uncomfortable with the term. You’re… not gonna hold that against me, are you Flug?”

a-vf-vi-tf-ti:

“No Carlos, just never assume the role.”

“Right. I don’t actually want to be a hero – While my work has helped people, I’d really prefer if they helped themselves. Everybody in Night Vale already knows my name… my place isn’t on a pedestal, it’s in the lab.”

“Hey, Flug! How are things going? Have you discovered anything new about the parasitic tissue and its effects?”

a-vf-vi-tf-ti:

“Hey Carlos, I have! It’s given me powers. I plan to test out the more destructive elements by doing something low maintenance. Maybe robbing a bank.”

“Oh. Uh, no, that’s just my life style.” he answered. “Its really satisfying!”

“Scientific discovery isn’t satisfying by itself?” Carlos asked. He then shook his head. “No – I’m sorry. I shouldn’t judge you on your lifestyle. It’s just… I dunno. I guess I don’t quite understand it.”

“Haha! Or maybe try wrecking a junker car? Mindless destruction is always a great pastime!”

“Haha! Carlos, there’s no profit in that! We have to stay ahead of the game.”

“Well, if you have to make it useful you could always write about it. The only difference between science and dinking around is writing it down, after all.”

“True, but why waste a perfectly good set of powers on a thesis paper when instead I could be infiltrating the bank downtown. They think they have the most state of the art security? Childs play.”

“Hahaha!” Carlos paused for a moment though, thinking about Flug’s words. “I’m, uh… not being hypothetical about destroying a car. I think we – or rather, you – should do it.”

“Nor am I about the bank robbing.”

“What? Really? Why?” Carlos is more confused than anything right now.

“B-because I’m evil. I thought I mentioned this. Sorry about that. But hey, being evil is great, and if you want to try doing evil deeds we have a special for up and coming villains.”

“I… I thought you were joking, honestly. Because, you know… ‘Evil Mad Scientist – haha, that’s funny’.”
