talking to my boy. He needs you. Now. Icecream. Wheels. Mr. Ramon it’s
been a pleasure.”

Edwardo walked up and gave his card to Carlos before offering Yondu his hand. “It has been,” he said, smiling at Yondu. “Take care of those boys, and try not to get into too much trouble.”

“See you around in the sky,” Mikey responded with a grin. “Oh – do you need these translator things back?” He reached up to point to the device just below his ear.

Yondu shakes his head. “No keep them. You ever want to call or my boys want a chat you’ll be able to understand them. If they break let me know. Carlos can show you how to use the long distance comunicators. Just….. be careful not to lose them ok.” Shakes Eduardo’s hand then fist bumps Mikey as he heads out to the car.

“In the meantime, keep them hidden in your guys’ wallet or something,” Carlos suggested. “I’ll be back soon.”

“Oh, Carlos – take my phone,” Mr Ramon said. “If you need anything, call Mikey’s. Then when you get back… we’ll come up with a story for how you got found.”

Carlos  nodded. “Okay, Dad.” He hugged his dad. “I’ll see you soon.” He turned and hurried out to the car with Yondu.

“Beauty you say? Dude your uglier then a bilgsnipes ass.” Grins and hands over the pink glittery dragon.

Yondu rolls his eyes at his boys and takes the little thing and
grins. “Aww look at it. This ones a cute little thing here. Hehe. Got
some shimmer too.”

“This one’s mine,” Kraglin said, handing over the little green lizard thing he picked out.

Yondu takes that one grinning at it and bobs there little heads. “Hehe. These are cute..well I just might have to collect some more Huh…”

“Well, you’ve got one more,” Carlos said. He pulled out the little pale horse and offered it to Yondu. “This one’s called a horse – people use them to ride around on.”

Yondu takes it and grins looking it over like the others and holds all three bobbling there heads. “Hehe. Front row seats on my shelf. Special treatment for these cute critters.”

Half smiles then burrows back down into the fluffy warmth looking up at Tullk with content halflidded eyes.

Tullk looked at Half-nut and smiled at him. He rubbed the younger Ravager’s shoulders. “We should be getting back… get some sleep before the day shift on the Eclector.”

Kraglin snorted softly. Right… ‘sleep’.

Yondu nods. “You boys head on back to the ship. Carlos and I have icecream to go get them I’ll be back on the ship.”

Kraglin made a little face at the mention of ice cream but he nodded and stood up. “Aye, Captain… Pete, let’s get them Cheetos and stuff that we got.”

“Oh! Let me send you home with something else too!” Edwardo said as he stood up. He took his cane and slowly walked out of the room toward the garage where he kept a large freezer.

“Ooh, you guys are going to like this,” Carlos said with a wide and excited grin.

Peter blinks at the signal for them to leave. He really didn’t want to. He was on earth with othercterrsns who understood him and where he cane from. But he stood anyway standing next to Kraglin and waits.

Half hand folded up the blanket waiting still nice and toasty warm.

Yondu blinks. “What’s he got?”

Edwardo returned from the garage carrying a package about the size of a small toddler wrapped in paper and plastic. Scribbled on it was a date and the word ‘pork’. He smiled as he offered the package to Kraglin.

Kraglin was a little bit skeptical, and as he took the package he was confused to find that it seemed frozen.

“These are some tamales that I had stored away,” Edwardo said. “I make them often.”

“Dad makes some of the best tamales ever,” Mikey told everyone proudly.

Yondu grins. “Well now more home made terran food. Never heard of tamales but I have a feeling well enjoy them all the same. Hehe.”

Peter looks at the bag then whines. “I…. I don’t want to go…… I…. I feel like… I’m home… I…” looking down not able to meet there eyes.

Carlos looked at Peter with a frown. He stood up and walked over to him. “Hey, Pete… it’s okay,” he said softly. “Yondu and Kraglin… they’re your family. Tullk and Half-nut are your family too. They’re all taking care of you. If you want… You’re welcome to still come and visit if you wanna. And… and I’ll have a communicator – you can call and talk to me or Dad or Mikey any time you want. Okay?”

Peter looks up at him and nods. “Yeah…..don’t think I’ll be able to visit whenever but….yeah…wish you would stay but…. you have your own family…so….” still doesn’t look up afraid the others would be mad at him for wanting to stay.

Carlos just smiled gently at him. He pulled the boy into a hug. “We can still talk, Pete. And when you visit, maybe we could go out to a theme park or a museum or something… you know, make a fun day out of it. And I’ll talk to you about Earth as much as you want.”

Kraglin just watched Carlos silently, no emotion on his face. Carlos was so good with the kid… it was a shame that he couldn’t stay. Peter could always use one more person on his team.

Peter clings to him not wanting to let go. “Just with you on the ship…. I… didn’t feel so alone anymore….. being the only terran……. the mascot… the freak… the pet…….. it’s gonna be like that again….terrans arnt meant for space…. if we were we would have our own ships…….” sighs and let’s him go. He was prepared to have the crew go right back to there bullshit with him.

Carlos took Peter’s face in his hands and he tilted the boy’s head down to press a kiss there. “Terrans just aren’t ready for it… but that makes you lucky, Pete. You get to see whole worlds that other humans don’t. You aren’t a pet – you’re a forerunner. Don’t forget it, okay? You get to make an impression on the rest of the galaxy for us.”

Peter blinks looking at him and nods looking up when Yondu puts his arm around his shoulders. “Go on petey.. back with your brother, Tullk and half. I’ll be home soon ok. Krags…… you know what to do.”

Peter let’s Yondu lightly push him to Kraglin.

Kraglin shifted the frozen bundle that Mr Ramon gave him to one arm and he put his other around Peter’s shoulders.

“Oh, before you go – cooking instructions for the tamales,” Mr Ramon interjected. “You’re supposed to steam them until it’s thoroughly hot. They’re already cooked and there’s no need to defrost them before steaming. There’s a paper-like husk around the tamales – you don’t eat that part. Just the breading and the meet inside. Sorry… I wanted to make sure you all knew before leaving.”

Yondu nods. “Hslf Tullk.. be sure to write that down. Put my name on it. Tell Oblo he can have a few. For a job well done tonight.”

Half nods and waves to the Ramon family before walking out with the others.

Yondu sighs looking to carlos. “Well ready for that icecream?”

Carlos nodded at him and smiled. “Sure,” he said. He went to go get his hoodie for Yondu to wear. “Mikey, can I borrow your card? I don’t wanna ping mine before we announce that I’ve been ‘found’.”

“Sure,” Mikey said and he went to get his wallet. “I paid for everything else today already…” he added with a laugh.

“Oh, Mikey don’t worry – I’ll get it!” Mr Ramon said and he went to get his own wallet. “It’s just ice cream, right boys?”

Yondu
blinks in mid crunch then swallows. “No idea what a snake is but…..
your dads a pshyco. Eating hearts……..then again… hey if it works for the
libido then who am I to judge.” Smiles at him wanting so badly to kiss
him.

Carlos laughed. “It’s more of a superstition that it helps your sex life,” Carlos said. “A lot of cultures are still heavily-set in superstition.” Carlos saw the look in Yondu’s eyes and he looked away. No, they couldn’t do this. They really shouldn’t. “Um… A snake, by the way, is a long reptile without legs. It, uh… it kinda looks like a tail with a head.”

Yondu sees him turn away and nods. “Uhhh Yeah….. that sounds… ummm… interesting…..” Fidel’s with the bag looking at the words on the back to distract himself. “H….how were the boys?….”

Carlos frowned and looked back at Yondu. “Peter had a panic attack,” he said. “We had to get him out of the store for a while and get some ice cream to calm him down. And… And Kraglin at one point was blushing. But, uh… Humans don’t blush blue, so we had to try to hide that too. Both times caused a bit of a scene… But we’re really hopeful that we weren’t particularly noticed as off-worlders.”

Yondu nods frowning at peter having a panic attack but he seemed fine when they got back so he let it slide. “Krags Blushing Huh? He’s interested in yet brother likes peoplecthat have some… mechanical bits ya know…. dunno why.” Shrugs and munches on another Cheeto and sighs. “This sucks………”

“It wasn’t Mikey,” Carlos said. “It… well, we found out Kraglin is lactose intolerant. And ice cream here is made of lactose, and he got a little sick. Peter kept teasing him about it.” Carlos looked down and scratched the back of his head. “Yondu… I think we might be on a bit of a time crunch now.”

Looks at him and nods. “Well… be gone tonight…… I know….may be a few months…before I can return……..if I can…..”

Carlos nodded. “Right… because of work… and you said that you needed to hibernate again soon.”

“……..yeah that…… but uhhh also…. your dad and i….. we…. had a conversation……… i….. I’m never going to stop….loving you…. I just won’t….. and my being a alien……. it’s not gonna happen. You have family and a life here on terra….earth……. and…..well… you can’t come with me….. so….. it’s best I…don’t come back…… you can still talk with the boys peter I think needs that….. but for us… you…. It’s.. best it ends…… well only… end up… wishing for something that was impossible….”

Carlos frowned at him. “Y-Yondu… I understand if you need space to sort out how to feel about… leaving me here,” he said softly. “Sure – definitely take a few months off from… this – from me – and… and let our hearts just kinda… recover. I don’t wanna lose you as a friend. Please… don’t call this friendship off completely right away?”

Yondu looks at him and nods. It was a lie but he didn’t want carlos to stay upset. “Yeah… sure.” Looks up as he heard Tullk call for them. “Lunch is ready….. once night comes…. we’ll be gone.” Looks at him before heading back to the main room.

Carlos smiled sadtly and nodded. “Um… before you go… I kinda wanted to take you out to get ice cream. I mean, you’ll have to stay in the car and wear my hoodie and keep out of the light, but…going through a drive-through and getting an order shouldn’t be a problem… right? We’ll just leave Kraglin behind this time so we don’t make him sick again.”

Yondu thinks then nods. “Ok… then you’ll drive me to my ship… I’ll have the boys drive my bike tonight to head home…..and… we’ll go get some icecream….. now common let’s go watch your brother squirm from with wiggly beastie worm lunch.”

Carlos chuckled softly and nodded as he hurried and finished putting some things away.

Yondu smiles a bit as they head to lunch.

After watching Mikey force down a few besties much to everyone’s laughter they were all relaxing in the tv room watching a terran film. Half was bundled in his new blanket snuggled against Tullk.

Peter was snuggled against kraglins side. “Hey. We forget to give dad the critters…”

Yondu hums looking at them. “Critters?”

Peter nods running to the bags and brings over one with the pet shop figures. “We saw these and just knew you’d like them.”

Carlos sat up a bit and smiled at Yondu.

“Pete, grab yers and pass it around – they all ain’t from you!” Kraglin scolded, though there wasn’t any real anger behind it.

Edwardo paused the film so that Tullk and Half-nut didn’t miss anything since it looked like everyone was going to be distracted now.

Peter
slides into the car and slides to the middle seat and snuggles back up
against Kraglin and to relax as they head back. He took kraglins hand on
his and starts rubbing along his palm and wrist knowing it calmed and
relaxed him.

Kraglin just sat there, making low growling-type noises. It was crazy – the bloated feeling he had seemed to be getting better now. Just a bit at least.

Carlos drove them home, still feeling kind of jittery and paranoid. They’d made a bit of a scene – did that mean someone was going to come after them? God, he hoped not. Or if someone was, they come after Yondu and the boys left. Can’t confront about aliens with no aliens around…

Peter snuggles him continuing his rubbing.

Once back at the house it was to find two new faces. Half but and Tullk were there the excuse was halfnut wanted to collect some wild herbs from earth to see if he could make something from it and why not visit there captain and other crew while they were at it.

Coming in and seeing Tullk talking and laughing with his dad like the were old friends… Carlos’ first thoughts were to the ship. “Who the hell is watching the ship?” he asked.

Tullk just shrugged. “Ship’s in the night cycle. Yer planet’s a bit on the fast side of standard. Anyway – the night crew’s got the ship and everyone else is sleepin’.”

“Ya got permission from Yondu ‘fore comin’ down, right?” Kraglin asked him.

Half was over near the table scanning some of the herbs and spices he’d found in the garden. “O..of c.co…course we did. W..we a..al always listed to the c..captain..” he frowns holding up a green leaf of some kind. “Hmmmm… this is listed as…a ..a n.nar ..narcotic…”

Edwardo looked. “Oh, that looks like hemp. People use it for oils and to make paper…. though I’m not sure where you found that…”

Carlos frowned at it. “Did that come from the forest?”

Half but nods. “Just.. s… south of. Y..you garden…. I. F.. f.. found some. T..tasty mushrooms too.” Looks over at Tullk and smiles at him.

Yondu hums. “Half I told ya not to wander past the garden….”

Half frowns. “S..Sorry I.. just saw a.. interesting p..plant…”

“It’s not dangerous,” Carlos told him. “Just… don’t leave any of it here. Make sure to take it with you when you go back to the ship. It’s kind of illegal here to have more than an ounce or so.”

“Sounds like I may have to… ‘stumble’ upon it myself later,” Mr Ramon said with a frown. “After you boys are back in space of course… we don’t want the police asking you all questions.”

“Uhhhhhh
you know something….. I dunno….. I honestly have no clue where they
come from… where ever they come from it’s covered in these things…
because these things don’t die until you eat them…”

Peter keeps crying calling for his mother curling around himself in a tight ball. “I want my momma… I want her back!”

“Oh really? I wonder if Carlos has had a chance to study them. He doesn’t usually work with animals, but I’m very curious…”

Carlos quickly got in to send the woman away. “I’m so sorry – he’s been having a bad day. We’ve got him now though, we’ll take care of him.”

Mikey positioned himself in front of Kraglin and Peter to deter people from stopping and looking.

Kraglin scooted closer to Peter and put an arm around his shoulder. “Peter… come on, Petey… Look at me. I’m right here, buddy.”

Nods.
“They killed a buddy of mine…. virtually dissected him infront of me…
killing him while he screamed then died after removing a few of his
organs…..I would have been next but I was able to escape when they had
some power malfunction…”

Edwardo looked at him, frowning sympathetically. “You have said,” he responded with a careful and calm tone. “I am truly sorry that has happened to you… I can’t even imagine that.”

“But I’ve found terrans who…. are really good people. You and your sons….. I’d like to call you a part of my family.”

Edwardo was a bit surprised by Yondu’s statement. He smiled and gave a soft chuckle. “That’s… I think that’s alright, Yondu. You’ve been good to me and my boys – especially Carlos. He seems to like you and trust you well enough. I think we’d be honored for you to consider us ‘family’. Friendship knows no distance, I believe.”

Yondu nods to him and smiles. “Aside from peter and kraglin and three others on my crew Oblo, Tullk and halfnut.. I don’t have anyone else. So this is nice.”

Mr Ramon nodded. “Right,” he agreed with a smile. “Want to help me start lunch? You can tell me more about what Carlos and you all have been up to.”

“Sure! I’ll even split this bag of the best snack in space. Carlos loves them too. Beastie worms!” Pulls out a a bag that looks suspiciously like a alien version of a Cheetoes bag.

Edwardo just looked at it. “What… what is it exactly?” he asked. “I heard you boys trying to explain it, but I don’t know if I understand…”

Grins and leads him to the kitchen. “Best thing ever. Just… don’t think about what your eating. Just eat it.” Opens the bag and pulls out a wiggling orange worm like thing.

Edwardo stared.”Carlos has been eating those?” he asked. “I’m surprised – usually he’s not very adventurous when trying new things.” He reached out and took the worm, examining it curiously.

The worm was wiggling around and actually tries to crawl around on his fingers leaving orange dust in its wake.

“Well in space he had to adapt. No terran like food out there really. I had to honestly convince him to eat one. Then he liked them. So we would pass a bag around at times.”

Edwardo hummed and nodded. He closed his hand around the worm to keep it from escaping. “You know, it’s arguable that it’s cruel to let them remain alive as you eat them. How do they stay alive in the package anyhow?”

“I honestly have no clue….. all I know is they are fresh and delicious.” Pulls one out then knocks it back with a crunch then swallows. “Carlos wanted to keepnsome as pets…. be interesting…. harvest them as unlimited source of beastie worms. Snacks forever.”

Edwardo looked at the trail of seasoning the worm left. “In theory… but you’d have to find out the recipe for the seasoning.” He smiled slightly. He sniffed at the seasoning with a hum. “It smells cheesy.” He opened his hand again and, with the other hand, picked up the worm between two fingers. “It’s sort of cute… I can see why Little Carlos wanted to try keeping one.”

Yondu chuckles. “Cute and delicious. Carlos at first thought it was cruel to eat them alive too but… if you kill them or dry them or something other then fresh they taste nasty….”

“Hm… maybe there’s a decomposition process that happens when they die.” He then smiled at Yondu again. “This wouldn’t be my first rodeo, eating a live animal. I’ve had the opportunity to have live octopus before.”

“Live oconopooos? What the hell is that?” Sets the bag down so the worms couldn’t wiggle out as Eduardo played with his food. “Hope the boys have fun.”

Peter watches as buildings go by in the car. “Been so long since being here….. it’s so strange….. almost like I don’t belong here.”

“Oh… um… it has a soft, round bulbous main body, and has eight tentacles that come out of the bottom of it like a skirt. It lives in the water. It’s really good with some spicy sauce, though you have to chew quite a bit to make sure to get it down safely.” Edwardo looked at the worm again. “I’m sure the boys are fine… It’s just a trip to the supermarket, after all.”

“I can’t believe I still remember how to drive,” Carlos said. “It just feels like it’s been so long… And I have to pay so much attention to the road.”

“You’re going the speed limit, so I think you’re fine,” Mikey reassured his brother with a grin.

Yondu blinks at the Discription. “Huh….. we have something like that. Don’t eat it though. Not unless you like the idea of melting from the inside out. Anyway. So what are we having for lunch? And you gonna eat the worm or keep it for a pet? Hehe.”

Nice they pull up peter couldn’t stop looking around and wandering off a bit curious about the daily lives of his species.

Mr Ramon looked at Yondu, and then grinned. He quickly popped it into his mouth and crunched down on it. There was a burst of flavor and he let out a pleasantly surprised hum. “Hm! Hmm!”

Kraglin kept close to Carlos and his brother. Yeah, he was curious too – looking around at everything. Watchers, it was all so…. alien. These people came in so many different shapes and sizes, it could probably rival the variety of Knowhere.

He watched Peter trying to wander and let out a low growl. “’Ey, Pete! Don’t get lost, you little shit!” A woman glanced at him in confusion and Kraglin just huffed at her. What did he care that she couldn’t understand him?

Yondu grins at him. “Exactly.” Hands him a few more.

Peter jumps and comes back falling in line next to him. “Sorry…… just…. there’s a lot here and……..” looks down and around at all the people just like him.”

Edwardo accepted a few more of the treats. But he doesn’t stuff all of them in his mouth – he just picked one up and closed his hand around the rest. “These are very good. They taste just like junk food here – how easy is it to get these in space? I mean, what’s the price?”

Carlos turned his head, using his hand to turn part of his hoodie too to look at Peter. “Hey, Peter, do we need you to hold onto the cart?” he joked. But really, who was Carlos to talk? He couldn’t stop looking around, even though it might give other people an easier chance to recognize him. He just… he couldn’t believe how much he missed the supermarket, of all places.

“Ehhh beastie worms are about 200 credits a bag…. 400 credits a can…. so yeah……. credits so that’s uhhhhh 2 or 4 of your coin…..I guess…”

Peter Ducks his head. “No… no im good…. sorry…..” looks around again then blinks spotting a lady with reddish blond hair and his eyes go wide. “Momma….”

“Huh – so very easy to get, like some of our junkfood here. What sort of species eats them?”

Kraglin glanced over at Peter and frowned. He went over to grab his jacket and pull him along. “C’mon, Pete…”

Yondu nods and thinks. “Just about every species does…. only those that think it’s low for them to eat worms of sorts don’t. Stuck ups you know.”

Yanks away and runs to where he saw the woman and looks around in panic then spots her headfing out and runs after. “Momma….. no… don’t go….” runs out of the market looking around then runs over seeing her near a car and rushes over and touches her shoulder. “Momma…?” She blinks turning around. “W..who are you? What do you want? Get away or I’ll call the police!” Peter swallows seeing it wasn’t her and backs up walking back and slides against the wall and pulls his knees up and cries.

“Or vegetarians, I imagine,” Edwardo said. He smiled. “Where did they originate?” he asked, eating another.

Kraglin was startled when Peter pulled out of his grip and ran off.

“Shit- PETE!” He exclaimed and ran after him.

Carlos and Mikey were surprised, but they quickly abandoned the cart and followed the two ravagers.

Kraglin heard the woman yelling and he spotted Peter sitting against the wall. “Pete!” He hurried over and dropped right next to the younger man. “Pete, Pete! Look at me! Look at me, Petey! It’s me – It’s Krags.”
