Carlos looked to her, a little big concerned. “Uh… do you need to?” he asked her. “Are you okay?”

“Jade is okay with the other children, yes. Recently she’s been in to listening to lots of music, but won’t play anything herself.” Mia shrugged, looking at her friend. “You are sure you don’t mind watching the children? It could be as long as two of your weeks if things go badly.”

“I’ve gotten a hang of it the first time,” Carlos said. “I think I can get Jade to help a bit too. Not too much, but you know – make her feel responsible.”

“That would be much appreciated,” she replied, ears perking up a little. And then she seemed to think of something, because her expression took on a decidedly sheepish look. “Jade only speaks Mayanaira. She understands some English, though. Will that be a problem?”

Carlos frowned. “Uh… a bit,” he admitted. “Do the other kids speak Mayanaira?” It’d be cool if he had some sort of thought-reading device to use, but alas… he didn’t.

“The twins are nearly fluent, and the rest except for Caoden speak a smattering. So they’ll all be able to help you translate.” She gave him a thoughtful look, considering something. “Or, if you’d like, there is something I can give you. The children should all learn it naturally, but I can have translators made for emergencies.”

Carlos looked at her. “Translators?” he asked. “Like, what are we talking? Magic or tech?”

Carlos looked to her, a little big concerned. “Uh… do you need to?” he asked her. “Are you okay?”

“I am her….throne sitter? And grandmother. I say you are allowed, you are allowed. And she is five Alshondi. ….Eleven Terrandi? Still a small child.” She’d forgotten the word for reagent, apparently.

“Ah,” Carlos said. “So, she’s like your ward? What does she like doing by the way? Is she okay with younger kids?”

Carlos looked to her, a little big concerned. “Uh… do you need to?” he asked her. “Are you okay?”

“Two balls for entirely different occasions, four different peace treaty negotiations that can’t be put off, and the werewolves are on the verge of an international catastrophe thanks to some idiot with a….bright phone?…and some poor pup in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

She shook her head again before running a hand through her hair and looking at her friend. “Don’t suppose you could be put upon to sit the children again?“

“I absolutely can,” Carlos said. “I was able to come up with activities the last time they were around, so I know what to do now.” He smiled at her. “They’ll be in good hands with me.”

“Oh, fantastic!” Mia visibly perked up at the agreement. “I can bring them over as soon as they wake up. …Would you be against one additional charge for your sitting? I think perhaps it would be best for the young princess to not be present around some of the guests I have to be hosting.”

Carlos blinked at her. “Uh, the ‘princess’?” he asked. “How old are we talking? And… am I allowed to babysit her?”

Carlos looked to her, a little big concerned. “Uh… do you need to?” he asked her. “Are you okay?”

“Drake’s taking a nap for me right now, but it’s not the same as actually sleeping yourself, you know?” Mia sighed, accompanying the sound with a shake of her head. “Got too much to do, and not enough hours in even the Alshondi day to do it.”

“What’s going on?” Carlos asked her. “Is… is there anything I can do to help?” He had no idea what sort of things someone like Mia had to do – obviously important queen/mom/space stuff – but if he could help in any way he could…

I find Mia to be a very pretty person, not only in body but in spirit. She has an incredible charisma and caring that… one just can’t ignore. I’m so lucky that she gives me more than just the time of day! (total mom crush here)

Aww, thank you Carlos! You’re such a sweetheart!

Made any new discoveries recently? The kids have been keeping me fairly busy.

Well, the Literal Rock Band I’m working with have made it on the charts at Dark Owl Records. We’re all really proud of them.

*he smirks slightly* And… don’t you mean fairy busy?

*she grins and winks at him* Actually, I meant faerlie busy. Works better as a fishual pun, I’m afraid~

And since when were you with a band? I didn’t know you were into music as well!

Hah! Good one, Mia!

Oh, you didn’t know? I found a pile of rocks that, somehow, can sing. In studying them I’ve struck a deal with them – I act as band manager and get them gigs and they let me do my science on them. I honestly don’t know much about music… but they’ve been really great and carrying themselves. I’m just the guy that signs the papers… Y’know, cause I have hands. Heh!

Oh? I’m afraid I hadn’t heard about that, no. I’d like to hear them sometime, if they’re amenable to the idea.

It seems as though Angie’s failed to mention your newest endeavors after her visits with you. Maybe to keep things private between you two?

I’m sure they would love it! *Carlos smiles*

But… really? Angie doesn’t tell you about the science we do? *He thought about it. Sure, he told her some things should be kept secret from Mia, as he didn’t think she’d approve of him showing chemical experiments in front of Angela (with all the safety precautions, of course!), but did Angie assume that meant NOTHING in the lab should be talked about? He’d have to talk to her and let her know what things Mia could hear about*

So are you, you know… *smiles sheepishly*

Well, I certainly try. How are you doing by the way? I feel like it’s been ages sine we last talked.

I’ve been doing alright. You know, working… studying the weird. All that good stuff.
