Carlos couldn’t help but look at the other incredulously. “What? No! I’m not! But Jesus, Hancock!” Carlos shut his eyes and tried to think. Addictol. Would Hancock even have any?

“Han, do you have any Addictol? I can get you some water, but is there anything I can give you to help you with this?” If he didn’t have any Carlos was going to have to send a Watchman out to get some. Carlos was scared – he didn’t want to lose Hancock like this!

“You’re not?” He seemed surprised by that, dark eyes going wide and a small smile tugging at his lips despite Carlos’ yelling. The relief he felt was immediate, the ghoul relaxing back into the cushions and his grip on the other man’s hand loosening a bit. He let his eyes slip shut and sighed softly, that smile still on his lips.

“Mmm?” Came his dazed reply as he struggled to open his eyes to look at him again. “Uh…. think there’s somethin’….. somewhere. Th’ drawer maybe? I…… don’t know….. ‘m so tired….”

Carlos looked around. The drawer? Which drawer? Wait – Hancock shouldn’t be going to sleep! “Han, s- please, stay with me. Which
drawer? Which dresser are we talking – where you usually keep your
drugs? I need to know, Han, okay? I- I’m trying to help you…”

Should
he shout out for help? Hancock might not like anyone seeing him like
this, but Carlos was worried he couldn’t take care of everything
himself.

Oh God, this was all his fault wasn’t it? If he had
just stayed inside – even slept on the couch – then he could have kept
an eye on Hancock and this woudn’t have happened!

Carlos wrapped his arms around Hancock and held him tight. He rubbed Hancock’s back right between his shoulder blades up and down his bony spine. “You should know, I share the same sentiments,” Carlos told him. “I really didn’t think my own life was going to ever look up again. So I’m glad… I’m really happy to have this.”

A low hum escaped the ghoul as the other began rubbing his back and he leaned into him, nuzzling into Carlos’ neck with a smile. “I guess we saved each other then, hmm? Think maybe we were meant for each other from the start–– slow as things might’a started, heh.”

Carlos huffed softly in amusement. Hancock was like a cat – just wanting all of Carlos’ warmth, it seemed. “It’s okay… because we’re together now, right? That’s all that matters.”

Carlos was saying this like they might be together forever. Relationships sometimes ended, he realized, but right now he didn’t see this one ending. He was pretty damn happy.

Carlos just hugged Hancock. “No, it doesn’t,” he said. “I won’t let go either. You should know… I love you too. And I do think you are a beautiful person. One of the best out here.”

“Heh, please, you’re the hot one in this relationship.” He chuckled and pecked Carlos on the cheek, hoping he got that the ghoul wasn’t misunderstanding his meaning, simply making a joke while complimenting him.

Carlos smiled. He felt unable to look into Hancock’s eyes, so he leaned in to nuzzle into his shoulder. “You’re too much,” he murmured softly, feeling slightly embarrassed but happy at the same time.

Carlos just smiled at him. “Don’t be sorry – it’s great to ask questions! Otherwise people wouldn’t learn anything new. There are a couple things that can be ignored and not affect the rest of the terminal’s main function. The ports for additional hardware, like for headsets or turrets aren’t strictly needed. Neither are the in-terminal speakers. It can even work without fans for a while, though it’d overheat and shut off without proper air flow.”

“Really? That’s so weird.” The ghoul hummed as he leaned in closer to check the terminal out. It was obvious he didn’t understand much about what the other was talking about, he didn’t have any experience with technology beyond writing or playing games on his terminal, not many did. “So…. why is that? What is it about those things that make ‘em…. optional, I guess?”

“Yeah, sort of,” Carlos said. “But a lot of these things are built into the terminal, so it’s kind of like removing your appendix and gallbladder too. And one kidney.” Come to think of it, there was a lot of things that the human body could live without. Toes, hair… Okay, he forgot for a bit who he was hanging out with. Carlos decided to get off of that train of thought and turned his attention back to the terminal, making mental notes of which wires needed replacing and how he could do that.

“I know,” Carlos responded automatically. He cringed a little at that, wishing he hadn’t said that. “I mean… I do care about you, Hancock. Too. Er, a lot. I love you. I just, heh, I hadn’t expected this either and I wanted to make sure I didn’t ruin it with ruining your coat. I know you love that thing too…”

As Carlos started to ramble, that anxiety bubbled up again, unsure where he was going with that, but when he finally, finally said the words, the ghoul froze. He felt the butterflies then, a huge sense of relief washing over him as he grinned from ear to ear and practically tackled the other man as he jumped into his arms to smother him in kisses.

Carlos made a surprised grunt-like noise, but he grabbed onto Hancock’s coat to keep himself from falling and kissed back as best as he could. He tried to keep up with Hancock, but the other was so elated that Carlos had a bit of a hard time. But he didn’t mind in the slightest. His heart felt like it was swelling with metaphorical liquid love, like it was a sponge and Hancock’s mouth was a spout. Okay, that sounded weird in his own head, but it was what it felt like! It was just amazing and unbelievable and Carlos was so, so happy… he didn’t know what to do with himself other than hang on and enjoy it. And he enjoyed it immensely.

Carlos smiled at him. He reached and pulled his arms around Hancock to hug him. “I want you to enjoy it too. I’m actually very happy with how this turned out. I’m glad you liked it…”

He happily returned the hug, nuzzling his face into Carlos’ neck with a smile. “I’m absolutely enjoying it, because I get to be with you. It means a lot to me that you wanted to include me in something so special to you.”

“Thank you for making it special,” Carlos told him. “On my own… well, I wouldn’t have done anything. He pulled away a bit to look at Hancock. “Wanna head inside and play your new games?” he asked with a smile. “It’s pretty cold in the warehouse…”

Carlos smiled at him. “I’m pretty sure you won’t,” he said. “I… I think I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I’ve walked into.” Admittedly, Carlos didn’t expect any of this. But things just… seemed to fall in place. He wasn’t going to question it too much – not when he and Hancock have such a good thing going.

“I sure hope so.” He chuckled softly then brought Carlos’ hand up to his lips to kiss his knuckles. Moving closer then, Hancock pulled the other man’s arms around his shoulders and pressed right up against his side, resting his head on the scientist’s shoulder. “I really don’t know what I’d do without you, y’know? You’ve made my life so much better than I ever thought it could be.”

Carlos wrapped his arms around Hancock and held him tight. He rubbed Hancock’s back right between his shoulder blades up and down his bony spine. “You should know, I share the same sentiments,” Carlos told him. “I really didn’t think my own life was going to ever look up again. Carlos was trying to figure out what to do. When Hancock touched him a hand automatically went up to take one of Hancock’s and give it a tight squeeze. Carlos took a look around at the needles and empty canisters and he felt overwhelmed.

“Han, did you… did you take all this??” he asked seriously. He then spotted bottles among the items and, somehow, his fear grew. He mixed drugs and alcohol?? Hancock was a hearty individual, as a ghoul, but Carlos feared that not even he would sober up in one piece.

“I….” He didn’t quite understand the question, not at first. Once it processed, Hancock glanced over at the scattered needles and bottles and sniffled. “Yeah?” It came out more as a question than anything, his mind still struggling to follow Carlos’ line of thought.

“What––” He started again, eyes flicking back up to the other man’s. “A-are you….. gonna leave me….? I-I didn’t mean to–– please give me another chance…..”

Carlos actually jumped with a small yelp and stared up at the man who approached. At first he wondered why someone would be wearing a suit out in the wastes, but then he found his voice. “Y- RUN!“ he hissed. “There’s raiders coming! You need to get somewhere safe!”

So he was hiding from the raiders as he had suspected. Perfect. Perhaps this would make his job a bit easier. “Where are they coming from?” He asks, looking around to see if they were near enough to see, before returning his gaze to the man in front of him.

Carlos just looked at him incredulously. Didn’t he hear Carlos??

“F-from the amphitheater,” Carlos explained. “To the east. Go! Before they find both of us, please!!”

Carlos was having mixed feelings though. If the guy didn’t bolt in the next few seconds, Carlos was going to grab him and drag him down behind the table with him.
