A carnotaurus stalked its prey – a juvenile apatosaurus grazing beneath a massive pine tree. The predator hid behind a large root from the tree, peeking its head over before it crept around through some tall, green, and spiny foliage. It crouched down, with its belly low to the loose earth beneath it and it flexed its muscles in preparation to strike.

But then suddenly something shot at the carnotaurus! A laser beam from a rifle that was wielded by a large mechanical being with black armor!

Oh, no you don’t!” Angie cried, making her voice low to impersonate the robot with the rifle. “I been trackin’ ya fer days fer that bite ya took outta my tailpipe! I been meanin’ ta pay ya back fer that, ya scaly nasty!”

Angela took the carnataurus in her hand and she made a growling, screeching noise with her voice as a way of answer to the robot man. The apatosaurus was forgotten as the predator was made to stalk toward the robot, but then it broke out into a run. Angela adjusted her hold on the robot so she had one of his arms in her hand and she made it turn and ‘punch’ the dinosaur in the jaw. She then made the robot kick out and the dinosaur fell to the ground, wriggling in pain.

Recess only just began, but Angela was already very much into her game with the toys she brought with her.

;; 🌲

Oh how they played.

The kids were always in a good mood when outside during the final hours of school. Of course, Parent’s would come by from time to time to pick up their lovely kids from school.

But for one kiddo, she found recess to be something of life and death… in a sense. It was always so hot outside, making the poor girl sweat under the rays of sun from above. She was under the tree outside, keeping well hidden from the light. It was okay to say the least… she’d rather be inside, drawing or reading books. But she was forced outside with the others.

Of course, it wasn’t that bad. She was fine. It wasn’t going to be long till her guardian came to pick her up! Of course, she wasn’t going home alone. She had her brother, Maxwell! Who was surely playing with the others somewhere else on the playground. She found him to be quite the brother. He was so mean to others, but to her, he was kind. Friendly! Which she liked a lot.

She was glad he was her brother…

It was a moment in thought when she heard something. A voice.
Her eyes scanned over to see Angela, a fellow student, playing with her toys. She looked to be having a fun time!

“…. Angela!”
She spoke up, her small voice frail.
“What are you playing?”

Angela paused her game. Not only did she look up, but she made the dinosaur and the robot look up too. She smiled.

“Oh, hi! Luci, right? Well, Ironhide’s fighting dinosaurs because he wandered outside of the Arc before everyone else woke up,” she started to explain, like it made complete sense. “Also he’s helping the dinos that need help. Even though predators need to eat too… Ironhide just likes to fight and do good. He’s kinda bored being the only Autobot awake right now.”

“I woke up because you were screaming so loudly.” ( @thatsilentlass )

Carlos was startled that someone had actually gotten up to see him after… whatever that mess was that was in his head. He felt awful, having woken her up. “Oh, uh… Sorry. I… It’s okay. Everything’s okay. You, uh… you should go back to sleep.”

Of course, Luci smiled.

The girl was in a land of a carefree life. At the moment at least.

Sleep can take you to a wonderful land of dreams, yet those dreams can be poisoned with negative emotions and thoughts if not handled correctly. Luci knew that. It was basic knowledge for the young girl, since she experienced it multiple times before.

Luci had nodded, smiling at the thought of going back to sleep, back to a land where currently, things were blank.

“Stop saying sorry. It was my will to come check on you..”

“I know it was, Luci,” Carlos told her with a kind smile. “But wandering around at night out here can be a little dangerous too. I mean… You wouldn’t wanna fall in the lake at all, would you?” He inflected the last sentence with a humorous tone, to show he was completely teasing.

He grabbed his phone and shook hit, bringing on the flashlight and shining it in front of him.

“Did you wake Angela, by any chance?” he asked her.

The young girl rubbed her eyes, yawning softly as she seemed to wobble in her stance. The night was still thriving, the time itself being around 2:08 AM.

She held the sheets in her grasp tightly, feeling another yawn coming as she stretched.
“Are you sure everything is okay? When I came in, you looked like you were having a bad sleep…”
Her eyes averted to the side, her hair somewhat messy as she lightly rubbed her cheek. The girl looked to be about 8 years of age, her short brown hair frizzed up as she did just wake up moments ago.
Her attire consisted of a white night dress with white bunny slippers…

“And its okay… you don’t have to be sorry if you aren’t sleeping good…”

Carlos got up, wearing a pair of flannel pajama pants with a Bill Nye the Science Guy title card pattern as well as a white sleeveless undershirt. He went up to her to help guide her back to bed. Seeing her disheveled hair made him think about his own; it was probably unruly and his beard certainly would need a trim. Morning stuff, but ugh… someone saw him before he could get to that point.

“I’m still sorry that I woke you,” he told her. “C’mon, kiddo… let’s get you back to bed and asleep, okay?”

Luci, of course, wasn’t buying it.
Yet, she knew people shouldn’t be forced to talk, so she decided that maybe talking would be for later.

Right now, she did want to go back to sleep, another yawn escaping her lips as she walked with Carlos back to her current sleeping area.
“It’s okay….” She mumbled, a small slur in her words, due to her sleep state.

“We can talk about it… in the morning?”
She asked, glancing up to the tired male beside her.

Carlos blinked at her. He wasn’t sure, really. It was just a dream after all. And he really didn’t need to hear about his unhappy relationship with his mother, and the dreams he has about her…. nor did she need to hear him accidentally rant about the woman and her ableism and misandry and narcissism… Yeah, he’d rather not get into that with an 8 year old.

“Maybe. But you need to sleep, and so do I. I’m sorry… you didn’t have to come and see if I was okay… but thank you.”

“Halloween?? With friends?? What friends?” Luci gave a small laugh, casually taking a sip of her coffee.

Carlos looked beside him, over at her with a smile. “Don’t got any Halloween parties planned, then?” he asked her. “Not even for work?”

“Oh?”

She seemed to hum, tilting her head before taking another sip of her drink, which slowly started to grow cold.

“I wonder who I might be..”

Carlos grinned wider. “I’ve got a
Giorgio A. Tsoukalos

costume, myself,” he said. “I’m pretty proud of it.”

“Hmm.. What do you think I should be then?”

She gave a small hum, smiling soon after.

“Oh? I need to see you wearing it-’

Carlos laughed. “I’ll definitely have pictures
on my twitter later,” he assured her. “As for your costume… I dunno. What’re
you into? Who are you into?”

“Halloween?? With friends?? What friends?” Luci gave a small laugh, casually taking a sip of her coffee.

She nodded before picking her phone back up, soon sending a text his way.

It is I, the great cookie

Carlos looked at the text and giggled, saving
the number. “Oh, you’re silly,” he chuckled. “What are your plans this week? In
general – you don’t have to go into specifics. We just met after all.”

“Well, nothing really. Just writing some notes and whatnot is my only thing..”

She then shrugged, giving a calm look

Carlos hummed and nodded. “Nothing for
Halloween then? Not even setting up at your local Trunk-or-Treat for the kids?
Assuming at least you’re in a place that has that.”

She then smiled, glancing down.

“Yeah, I am going to set up when I head home today. Even grab some candy on the way. Maybe.. I’ll dress up as someone. A character or something.”

Carlos smiled. “Or someone,” he said. “I saw a
really great Steve Harvey on twitter the other day.”

“Halloween?? With friends?? What friends?” Luci gave a small laugh, casually taking a sip of her coffee.
