āI donāt knowā¦
maybeā¦. never looked. Weāre so rare itās⦠weāre not even catalogued as
fully a intelligent people⦠then again not all of us can talkā¦ā⦠Iām
sorry Carlosā¦ā
āNo – No, donāt be,ā Carlos told him. āWe just⦠clearly neither of us knew. Justā¦ā Carlos sighed. āThereās got to be someone. Someone in the entire galaxy – a historian or an anthropologist or a doctor or something – who knows what to do.ā
āYeah⦠Iāll go back to my warbird in the forest make a few calls. See if anyone out there has some kind of⦠ideaā¦.ā looks at him then down ears dropping at the rejection.
Carlos reached and took Yonduās face in his hands. āYondu ā please understand me when I say this – No, itās not a good idea for us to try to make this work. But that doesnāt mean that I donāt care a lot about you. I do. And I want you to be safe and healthy. Whatever I can do to help you toward that, Iām willing to do it! Okay? Iām still your friend.ā
Yondu looks at him with a crushed look and his ears droop down. āSoā¦. thereās no chance? None? Friendā¦.. yeahā¦. friendā¦ā¦ā¦.friend.ā Why did this hurt so much.
That look Yondu was giving him broke Carlosā heart. āYondu⦠this wouldnāt work out, no matter how much I want it to. Iām not meant for space. I survived in it, yeah, and you were a great help, but⦠Iām just not meant to leave my solar system.ā
This was really hard for Carlos to tell him. Carlos really didnāt want to talk about it anymore⦠he wished Yondu could understand so Carlos didnāt have to keep saying it.
Yondus pointy ears dropped lower and he actually gave out a rather surprising low whine sound. He just nods then shakes his head closing his eyes and wiggles his ears before looking back up eyes hardened. Heād been hurt before this was fine he could live. āOk.ā
Carlos wanted to hug him. To tell him that everything was going to be fine, but⦠he didnāt think they were ready for that. Yondu didnāt need to be confused even more.
āIf⦠if thereās anything I can do for you⦠just let me know,ā Carlos said to the other. āIām still your friend⦠I promise.ā
Yondu just nods and motions to the door as he walks out and then goes back to helping fix dinner.
Peter blinks looking from Yondu to carlos knowing something happened.
Carlos didnāt feel good at all anymore. Despite his attempts at assuring Yondu, Carlos felt like he only hurt him. Not only that, but Yondu mentioned biology so now Carlos was worried for his health. There had to be someone in the galaxy who could help him figure it out… but Carlos hadnāt the slightest clue of where to start.
Maybe this hadnāt been a good idea… God, he didnāt even know anymore.
Kraglin looked to Peter. He himself wasnāt going to ask about what was going on between the adults in their lives, but if Peter was… Kraglin would be interested in what the younger terran would dig up.
