“Hmmm
money is good. I like how you think.” Helps him finish up repairs then
floats them back into the ship and shivers pulling andcwalking quickly
to his room. “Coooold!”

Carlos followed after Yondu, rubbing his hands together to
try to warm them up. “Do you wanna try to make some cider back in the Captain’s
Quarters?” he asked the other man. “I’d do it, but… I’m not a very good cook.
Like, at all. I can help where I can, though.”

“Hot spiked cider it is. fuck it’s cold!” Shoves the door open and literally runs for the furs and flings them around f his shoulders.

Carlos locked the door behind them and rubbed his shoulders.
“Uh – I’d rather not have it spiked. I don’t do well with alcohol… not unless I’m
okay to sleep for the rest of the day.” He went over to the in-room food prep
unit and started to find a kettle and some cups.

Follows him around like a walking fuzzy shag rug.

Carlos looked at Yondu and offered him a smile. “Don’t you
have a sweater? I’d imagine it’d be hard working the heating element with your
blanket like that…”

Yondu tilts his head curious. “Yeah what’s that?”

“Well… back on Earth, I’m bilingual,” Carlos explained. “I
guess I still am… I’m speaking a mash of two different languages right now. But
that’s because my translator, when it feeds me information, it gives me words
in both the languages. Like, if one word fits better in English, it’ll be in
English. But if it fits better in Spanish, it’ll be in Spanish. Does that make
sense?”

Nods. “What you hear now is me speaking basic kree….. my slavers language…. otherwise you would hear this that is not in any translator.” Starts making whistle sounds with tips and hums.

The whistling startled Carlos, as usually when Yondu
whistled an arrow flew. But after a second Carlos relaxed and he started to get
intrigued. “Is… is that Centaurian?” he asked.

Whistle and hums and nods. “Yeah. Pretty much a dead language now…. so few of us exist now…”

“Oh,” Carlos said softly. “I… I’m sorry to hear that. We, uh…
we have a language similar to that on Earth, actually. It’s only localized to
one island
. The whistles they use can carry for miles across the island. There’s also many languages that have clicks in them on Earth.”

“Yes that’s similar to us. I remember when I was just pouchlings I could hear the clicks and whistles all around me……. then silence…. now I’m one of… maybe a dozen or so…. all because we were hunted to near extinction as slaves for fighting or… other…”

“I remember… you started to talk about being a slave, but
you didn’t really elaborate,” Carlos said. “I didn’t want to ask because… well,
it wasn’t something I thought you’d wanted to talk about.”

“Well…. not something like to talk about but. I mean… you have about me and you been sharing a lot about you so.. only fair yeah? I’ll tell ya when we get inside. In our quarters. Dun need no idjits listening in or what ever.”

Carlos nodded to Yondu. “Yeah, sure,” he said and he turned
back to his work. “We should be about done here pretty quickly, and we can get
the old panel back in to be recycled.”

“We usually just space the junk…….” sees carliss look. “But recycling. We can do that! Yep!”

Carlos looked at him. “Well, I was just saying… I mean, you
can get money for dropping off scrap parts when you fix your ship. You don’t
have to though…” Though, admittedly, it still bothered Carlos a bit that there
was more trash in space than he’d previously thought back on Earth.

Seeing Carlos reading something Yondu approached climbing and sitting on Carlos’ lap, he wanted attention “…”

Carlos was surprised when Yondu just got up into his lap by himself. He counted himself lucky when the kid approached him on his own for affection.

Carlos offered the child a smile. “Hey, buddy. How you doing?”

Yondu looked at what Carlos was reading, stretching out his hand and trying to take what Carlos was reading from his hand, pouting, he had never had positive attention before he met Carlos and for that reason he had changed a little, he was needy for attention, after all, he spent several years of his life without any attention, or anyone caring for him.

“Bored…” He said, holding Carlos’s arm and pulling close.

Carlos set down his data pad for now and started to bounce
his leg gently with the kid on it. “You are? What do you wanna do, kiddo?”
