“I did. Hehe. He may be big but he’s a cuddled and gentle.”

Carlos laughed again. He looked at the critter. He could try
naming it something spacy and cool… but then it occurred to him that maybe he
should pick something that translators didn’t exactly translate – something that
would sound the same all around. Something Earth.

“Um… what if I call him John Wayne?”

Yondu chuckles. “They like you… oh look it’s a baby.”

A tiny smaller then Carlos one floats around pressed against a much larger one obviously it’s Mother.

Carlos gasped softly. “Oh, my goodness,” he said in awe. “That’s
incredible,” he said again, watching the creatures as he tried to memorize
every bit of them.

The baby creature acts much like a whale floating around and spinning around playfully.

“Oh my goodness,” Carlos repeated. “It’s so cute… how old do
you think it is?”

“I’d say given its size….. it’s only a few weeks to a month or two…” the baby does a playful bob and spin then comes up to Carlos and Yondu reaching feelers out to investigate

“Awe…” Carlos cooed. He gently reached out his hand – not to
pet it, but to let the baby feel it and hopefully not bite it.

The baby feels around him even up to his face curious and noses at him and plays with him and rubs against him.

“Hehe. He really likes you.”

Carlos  chuckled
softly. “Does he? Wait, how are you able to tell its gender?”

“By the length of the feelers. Males are longer females short. And he likes you and rubbing against you. We see this pod a lot. You can name him.”

“Ah, I see,” Carlos said. But then he looked over at Yondu,
confused. “What? What do you mean ‘name him’?” he asked.

“Give him a name. His moms called serinity… big daddy is big daddy…..”

Carlos laughed at that, without really meaning to. “Who
named him that?” he asked.

“You’re a Terran, right? Greedings ” Licks your face like a dog.

“Uh…? Yes, I am human,” Carlos said carefully. Hesitantly. “Uh, no – no offense, but… why did you lick me?”

The Collector tilted his head to the side looking at Carlos, “Are you sure? I’m not going to try to kill you or anything, I’ll wait for you to die from natural causes before using your body for research. “He said and smile” I can pay you very well .. “

“Credits aren’t really a thing on Earth,” Carlos admitted to
him. “Like I said… I’d rather find a way home. More than anything.”

“Credits are a thing here… Buy I can take you to Earth if you want… But I want your body.”

Carlos just frowned and shook his head. He was getting a little frustrated – this guy must not know how asking someone to give up their body off of their home planet must sound. Maybe Carlos could be convinced to donate his body to science on Earth, but certainly not on some god-forsaken space station lightyears from home.

“I said no,” he stated. “Maybe give Earth a visit – I’m sure there are folks who’d be honored to do it.”

“Abductee? Uhnm… That’s sad.” He smiled, it had been a while since he last saw a human, so he was curious to see how they had evolved. “Can I continue to analyze you? I would like to buy your body for analysis, of course I will wait for you to die before open your boy and I can pay you a fair amount of credit. ”

Carlos’ eyes widened and he just stared at the other man. “Um…?
No, I… I’m not comfortable with that,” he said. “I mean, sure, I can sate some
of your curiosity with medical tests while I’m alive, but… I’m afraid my body is off-limits after death. I’d…
really rather die on Earth, if I can even get back there.”

He listened to the human talking, and then analyzed him again, he nudged the human’s arm, and smiled again, putting a hand on his shoulder and squeezing it a bit, as if analyzing everything.

“I’m Taneleer Tivan. The collector. And you are?”

Carlos got a little nervous with the touchy-feeling going
on, but since it wasn’t anything in appropriate he let it go. Maybe it was in
his culture…

“Um, my name is Carlos Ramon. I… well… Abductee from Earth.”

“Oh…” The Collector seemed to be processing the information that Carlos was providing, he was looking at the Terran’s hand and greeting and then letting go, he give a small smile, “Now, tell me … You terran stopped sending animals to Space?”

Carlos blinked at him. He nodded slowly. “Um, yeah, we… we
have. There were ethical issues with it, and the general population isn’t
really keen on sending anything other than a consenting person into space
anymore.” It was a bit of a strange question, but he supposed people would be
interested in how space-savvy his race was.

“Uh… no, not really,” Carlos said. “Some places we would
give one-another a kiss on the cheek, but… no, that’s about it. Usually, in a
professional setting we just… shake hands.” He offered his hand for the other
to take. “But – I mean, unless your people don’t do that then that’s cool too!”
He started to lower his hand back to his side, unsure. God, he kind of hated
space.
