Get the fuck out of my house.

“It’s some weird cult bullshit. Something with some weird god named Zeemoog or Xemüg or… whatever.”

“Angela wrote about that once… her mom was really upset about it for some reason. You’re saying this other Max is in a cult?”

“Yeah. Alot of people are in that cult. I was in it for like… a month?”

Carlos stared at Maven, his suspicion on him once again like a boxing coach massaging his shoulders. “… What?”

“I used to be in a cult, okay?” Maven groaned in annoyance, “Can we drop the cult talk now?”

“I dunno. Is it a violent cult? Is this other ‘purified’ Max violent? I just want my Max safe, and I’m pretty sure you do too. Unless you’d rather not be candid with me…”

“Well, it has been pretty peaceful the past few months. There’s only like… two kind of crazy people. Daniel and Jen. But they’re trying to better themselves. But I don’t know about that other Purified Max. He might be violent, so, be careful around him.”

“’Might’ be. Yeah, okay. Do you know where I can find him? Or what I should look out for?”

“No clue, sorry…” He sighed, “But I have an idea.” Maven took a small colorful pin out of his pocket, putting in on his hoodie. “Now you can atleast tell us apart.”

Carlos blinked but sighed and nodded. “Yeah… at least that’s something. If you ever see this ‘Purified’ Max… you let me know.” Carlos was quiet for a moment. “I’m… sorry for my mistake.” He wanted to add to it, but it would just sound like excuses.

“Eh, it’s fine, mistakes and such happen when two people look alike.” He reassured, smiling softly, “And sure, I’ll let ya know when I find him.”

Carlos nodded. “Yeah… thanks.”

“Dude chill… i’m just trying to vent my feelings out here…”

“Oh.. it’s you. Why do you always send these things anonymously? You can sign them or something…”

“If I signed them they wouldn’t be anonymous, and if I signed them people would know it’s me and not care. Because, if you haven’t noticed, no one cares about me, heh, so.. yknow. Can’t sign ‘em.”

“You misunderstand, just a bit. You’re implying that your mom doesn’t care about you; that is horrible and I feel for you. Almost viscerally. Because that is not okay, no matter what.

“However, on a separate note, you yourself as a person… you make it tough for me to want to associate with you.” That was an understatement.

“…I-i’m sorry, what?” He lifted a brow, looking very hurt.

“What’s wrong with me as a person? What did I do? As far as I know I didn’t do anything bad in the past couple of months…”

“Maven, you made Max hurt himself! You told him to!”

“What?! When?!” He immediately went into a defensive mode, “When did I tell him that?! I haven’t been with Max in weeks!”

“Then what is this, Maven? And this? What do you mean you haven’t been with him in weeks??”

“Hm, yeah, that’s not me.” He crossed his arms, “I’ve been with Reid and/or in my room crying all day yesterday. So don’t come at me with all that shit.”

“God, I don’t even know who Reid is. What do you mean it’s not you? It’s your face! What, is there someone who looks like you making a mess in this convergence of multiple broken universes?? ‘Evil twin’, as they say?”

“Yes.” He sighed, pinching the bridge of his nose. “Carlos. There are tons of Max’s running around at camp. And yet you think something like this would be impossible? Really? You’re from Night Vale, doesn’t stuff like this happen there daily?”

“No. We usually are told to kill our doubles,” Carlos said flatly. But thinking about it… Maven could be right. “Dammit… So you’re saying it’s another Max?”

“Well, yeah, pretty much.” He shrugged, “Or, in this case I guess it would be another Maven. Or another Purified Max. I dunno. But yes.”

“’Purified Max’… what does that even mean?”
