“I don’t know…
maybe…. never looked. We’re so rare it’s… we’re not even catalogued as
fully a intelligent people… then again not all of us can talk…”… I’m
sorry Carlos…”

“No – No, don’t be,” Carlos told him. “We just… clearly neither of us knew. Just…” Carlos sighed. “There’s got to be someone. Someone in the entire galaxy – a historian or an anthropologist or a doctor or something – who knows what to do.”

“Yeah… I’ll go back to my warbird in the forest make a few calls. See if anyone out there has some kind of… idea….” looks at him then down ears dropping at the rejection.

Carlos reached and took Yondu’s face in his hands. “Yondu – please understand me when I say this – No, it’s not a good idea for us to try to make this work. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t care a lot about you. I do. And I want you to be safe and healthy. Whatever I can do to help you toward that, I’m willing to do it! Okay? I’m still your friend.”

Yondu looks at him with a crushed look and his ears droop down. “So…. there’s no chance? None? Friend….. yeah…. friend……….friend.” Why did this hurt so much.

That look Yondu was giving him broke Carlos’ heart. “Yondu… this wouldn’t work out, no matter how much I want it to. I’m not meant for space. I survived in it, yeah, and you were a great help, but… I’m just not meant to leave my solar system.”

This was really hard for Carlos to tell him. Carlos really didn’t want to talk about it anymore… he wished Yondu could understand so Carlos didn’t have to keep saying it.

Yondus pointy ears dropped lower and he actually gave out a rather surprising low whine sound. He just nods then shakes his head closing his eyes and wiggles his ears before looking back up eyes hardened. He’d been hurt before this was fine he could live. “Ok.”

Carlos wanted to hug him. To tell him that everything was going to be fine, but… he didn’t think they were ready for that. Yondu didn’t need to be confused even more.

“If… if there’s anything I can do for you… just let me know,” Carlos said to the other. “I’m still your friend… I promise.”

Yondu just nods and motions to the door as he walks out and then goes back to helping fix dinner.

Peter blinks looking from Yondu to carlos knowing something happened.

Carlos didn’t feel good at all anymore. Despite his attempts at assuring Yondu, Carlos felt like he only hurt him. Not only that, but Yondu mentioned biology so now Carlos was worried for his health. There had to be someone in the galaxy who could help him figure it out… but Carlos hadn’t the slightest clue of where to start.

Maybe this hadn’t been a good idea… God, he didn’t even know anymore.

Kraglin looked to Peter. He himself wasn’t going to ask about what was going on between the adults in their lives, but if Peter was… Kraglin would be interested in what the younger terran would dig up.

Dinner went on without a hitch and now everyone was sitting around digesting. Yondu was dozing seeming to be in a pleased food coma as were the rest of his crew.

Carlos was helping his dad clean up without much word. Edwardo wanted to talk to Carlos and see what was bothering him, but with company over he didn’t feel like it would be right.

Mikey had a hand-held game to show Peter. “Hey, Petey – this is what kids your age play on Earth. It’s called a Switch.”

“No fun in low profile bro. You know that.” Kisses his cheek and nuzzles pulling him back to the house.

Halfnut was now sitting on Tullk back somehow keeping the stronger ravager down.

“I’m bein’ serious, Pete,” Kraglin told him, following. “We can’t be attractin’ attention when one of us don’t look human.”

Carlos looked up as the boys entered and smiled. “Hey, guys – Dad’s starting dinner, so go ahead and sit down on the couch if you like.”

Peter nods to Kraglin understanding and takes a seat on the coutch watching Jamie and Tullk. “Got a group question here out of a rating of 1 to 10 1being that Jamie’s a cuddly kitten and 10 being Armageddon. How dangerous/scared are you Of halfnut…. you know crazy Jamie.”

Tullk looked at Peter with a raised eyebrow. “That’s an awful personal question ye be askin’, boy,” he murmured.

Jamie blinks and shudders. “10 I don’t like halfnut. He’s…. scary mean…. likes bloodsnd violence.”

Tullk turned to Jamie, a little surprised. “You didn’t hafta tell ‘im nothin, Jamie,” he said gently. “Y’alright with him knowin’ yer feelin’s?”

Jamie looks to him. “We’re family here Yeah? Not crew…. not on the ship with no one else….. only bad one here is halfnut…. but…. he’s quiet now. Can’t hear nothin….he came out for a little bit…. but he’s gone now. .. just me Jamie. Just me….”

Peter grins and gives Jamie a big hug. “Yeah just kitten Jamie.”

Tullk just looked at the both of them before nodding. He could understand – they weren’t on the ship. They could relax some.

“Yeah… just like a kitten,” Tullk commented with a smile.

Jamie huffs and half punches peters arm and goes to Tullk snuggling against him.

Peter rubs his arm. “Owww… kittens got claws..”

Tullk just huffed softly in amusement, putting his arm around Jamie. “Ravager, boy.”

Kraglin just smiled and ruffled Peter’s hair.

When
he was pinned like that peters eyes go wide and blank his body stiff
and still remembering when he was grabbed like this and pinned down.

Kraglin noticed the immediate change. “Pete?” he asked. His grip relaxed enough for Peter to get out of. “Pete… you okay? Talk to me.”

Blinks and burrows against him. “I don’t like being pinned down like that……. Like… how he did…..”

Yondu blinks hearing that. “Krags. Take your time…. I’ll call ya for dinner.”

Kraglin felt his heart lurch and he jumped off of Peter as if burned. Flark… he couldn’t believe he’d done that!

He looked up to the door where Yondu stood – how long had he been watching?

“Pete, I… I’m sorry,” Kraglin said softly, looking back at the human. “I didn’t mean nothin’ by that…”

Peter looks up at him nodding. “It’s.. it’s ok…. I just…. I remember that and….. …….. I should get over it. Sorry.”

Kraglin shook his head. “No, nononono, Pete, it ain’t your fault. It… I gotta be more mindful while you’re recoverin’. I’m sorry.” Kraglin offered his hand to Peter, as a sort of peace offering.

Takes his hand and then snuggles up against him nuzzling his chest and hugs him tight rubbing his face against him much like he’d seen some crew do as for scenting of family or loved ones.

Kraglin was a little surprised at the nuzzling. He rolled his eyes, but was still smirking slightly as he hugged Peter back. He wondered how Yondu would react to this treatment… he’d probably secretly love it.

Peter smiles and settles face pressed to his tattooed neck and closes his eyes. “I love you big bro…… never want to leave. I’ll try to be the best ravager so you and dad will be proud you…. took me.”

“Well… we kept you, so that says somethin’ right?” Kraglin asked him, rubbing his shoulder.

“You mean I kept you. Even though you get smelly when you have dairy. Hehe.” Nuzzles as he hears halfnut do his war cry and watches through the Windows was he tackles Tullk playfully.

Kraglin smacked Peter lightly on the head. He looked at the widow with a slight frown. “Do they know the point o’ bein’ here is to keep a low profile?” he asked.

Tullk could be seen with Half-nut in a headlock. But it was clear that it was all in jest and nothing was wrong.
