“Uhhhhhh
you know something….. I dunno….. I honestly have no clue where they
come from… where ever they come from it’s covered in these things…
because these things don’t die until you eat them…”

Peter keeps crying calling for his mother curling around himself in a tight ball. “I want my momma… I want her back!”

“Oh really? I wonder if Carlos has had a chance to study them. He doesn’t usually work with animals, but I’m very curious…”

Carlos quickly got in to send the woman away. “I’m so sorry – he’s been having a bad day. We’ve got him now though, we’ll take care of him.”

Mikey positioned himself in front of Kraglin and Peter to deter people from stopping and looking.

Kraglin scooted closer to Peter and put an arm around his shoulder. “Peter… come on, Petey… Look at me. I’m right here, buddy.”

“They killed a buddy of mine…. virtually dissected him infront of me…
killing him while he screamed then died after removing a few of his
organs…..I would have been next but I was able to escape when they had
some power malfunction…”

Edwardo looked at him, frowning sympathetically. “You have said,” he responded with a careful and calm tone. “I am truly sorry that has happened to you… I can’t even imagine that.”

“But I’ve found terrans who…. are really good people. You and your sons….. I’d like to call you a part of my family.”

Edwardo was a bit surprised by Yondu’s statement. He smiled and gave a soft chuckle. “That’s… I think that’s alright, Yondu. You’ve been good to me and my boys – especially Carlos. He seems to like you and trust you well enough. I think we’d be honored for you to consider us ‘family’. Friendship knows no distance, I believe.”

Yondu nods to him and smiles. “Aside from peter and kraglin and three others on my crew Oblo, Tullk and halfnut.. I don’t have anyone else. So this is nice.”

Mr Ramon nodded. “Right,” he agreed with a smile. “Want to help me start lunch? You can tell me more about what Carlos and you all have been up to.”

“Sure! I’ll even split this bag of the best snack in space. Carlos loves them too. Beastie worms!” Pulls out a a bag that looks suspiciously like a alien version of a Cheetoes bag.

Edwardo just looked at it. “What… what is it exactly?” he asked. “I heard you boys trying to explain it, but I don’t know if I understand…”

Grins and leads him to the kitchen. “Best thing ever. Just… don’t think about what your eating. Just eat it.” Opens the bag and pulls out a wiggling orange worm like thing.

Edwardo stared.”Carlos has been eating those?” he asked. “I’m surprised – usually he’s not very adventurous when trying new things.” He reached out and took the worm, examining it curiously.

The worm was wiggling around and actually tries to crawl around on his fingers leaving orange dust in its wake.

“Well in space he had to adapt. No terran like food out there really. I had to honestly convince him to eat one. Then he liked them. So we would pass a bag around at times.”

Edwardo hummed and nodded. He closed his hand around the worm to keep it from escaping. “You know, it’s arguable that it’s cruel to let them remain alive as you eat them. How do they stay alive in the package anyhow?”

“I honestly have no clue….. all I know is they are fresh and delicious.” Pulls one out then knocks it back with a crunch then swallows. “Carlos wanted to keepnsome as pets…. be interesting…. harvest them as unlimited source of beastie worms. Snacks forever.”

Edwardo looked at the trail of seasoning the worm left. “In theory… but you’d have to find out the recipe for the seasoning.” He smiled slightly. He sniffed at the seasoning with a hum. “It smells cheesy.” He opened his hand again and, with the other hand, picked up the worm between two fingers. “It’s sort of cute… I can see why Little Carlos wanted to try keeping one.”

Yondu chuckles. “Cute and delicious. Carlos at first thought it was cruel to eat them alive too but… if you kill them or dry them or something other then fresh they taste nasty….”

“Hm… maybe there’s a decomposition process that happens when they die.” He then smiled at Yondu again. “This wouldn’t be my first rodeo, eating a live animal. I’ve had the opportunity to have live octopus before.”

“Live oconopooos? What the hell is that?” Sets the bag down so the worms couldn’t wiggle out as Eduardo played with his food. “Hope the boys have fun.”

Peter watches as buildings go by in the car. “Been so long since being here….. it’s so strange….. almost like I don’t belong here.”

“Oh… um… it has a soft, round bulbous main body, and has eight tentacles that come out of the bottom of it like a skirt. It lives in the water. It’s really good with some spicy sauce, though you have to chew quite a bit to make sure to get it down safely.” Edwardo looked at the worm again. “I’m sure the boys are fine… It’s just a trip to the supermarket, after all.”

“I can’t believe I still remember how to drive,” Carlos said. “It just feels like it’s been so long… And I have to pay so much attention to the road.”

“You’re going the speed limit, so I think you’re fine,” Mikey reassured his brother with a grin.

Yondu blinks at the Discription. “Huh….. we have something like that. Don’t eat it though. Not unless you like the idea of melting from the inside out. Anyway. So what are we having for lunch? And you gonna eat the worm or keep it for a pet? Hehe.”

Nice they pull up peter couldn’t stop looking around and wandering off a bit curious about the daily lives of his species.

Mr Ramon looked at Yondu, and then grinned. He quickly popped it into his mouth and crunched down on it. There was a burst of flavor and he let out a pleasantly surprised hum. “Hm! Hmm!”

Kraglin kept close to Carlos and his brother. Yeah, he was curious too – looking around at everything. Watchers, it was all so…. alien. These people came in so many different shapes and sizes, it could probably rival the variety of Knowhere.

He watched Peter trying to wander and let out a low growl. “’Ey, Pete! Don’t get lost, you little shit!” A woman glanced at him in confusion and Kraglin just huffed at her. What did he care that she couldn’t understand him?

Yondu grins at him. “Exactly.” Hands him a few more.

Peter jumps and comes back falling in line next to him. “Sorry…… just…. there’s a lot here and……..” looks down and around at all the people just like him.”

Edwardo accepted a few more of the treats. But he doesn’t stuff all of them in his mouth – he just picked one up and closed his hand around the rest. “These are very good. They taste just like junk food here – how easy is it to get these in space? I mean, what’s the price?”

Carlos turned his head, using his hand to turn part of his hoodie too to look at Peter. “Hey, Peter, do we need you to hold onto the cart?” he joked. But really, who was Carlos to talk? He couldn’t stop looking around, even though it might give other people an easier chance to recognize him. He just… he couldn’t believe how much he missed the supermarket, of all places.

“Ehhh beastie worms are about 200 credits a bag…. 400 credits a can…. so yeah……. credits so that’s uhhhhh 2 or 4 of your coin…..I guess…”

Peter Ducks his head. “No… no im good…. sorry…..” looks around again then blinks spotting a lady with reddish blond hair and his eyes go wide. “Momma….”

“Huh – so very easy to get, like some of our junkfood here. What sort of species eats them?”

Kraglin glanced over at Peter and frowned. He went over to grab his jacket and pull him along. “C’mon, Pete…”

Yondu nods and thinks. “Just about every species does…. only those that think it’s low for them to eat worms of sorts don’t. Stuck ups you know.”

Yanks away and runs to where he saw the woman and looks around in panic then spots her headfing out and runs after. “Momma….. no… don’t go….” runs out of the market looking around then runs over seeing her near a car and rushes over and touches her shoulder. “Momma…?” She blinks turning around. “W..who are you? What do you want? Get away or I’ll call the police!” Peter swallows seeing it wasn’t her and backs up walking back and slides against the wall and pulls his knees up and cries.

“Or vegetarians, I imagine,” Edwardo said. He smiled. “Where did they originate?” he asked, eating another.

Kraglin was startled when Peter pulled out of his grip and ran off.

“Shit- PETE!” He exclaimed and ran after him.

Carlos and Mikey were surprised, but they quickly abandoned the cart and followed the two ravagers.

Kraglin heard the woman yelling and he spotted Peter sitting against the wall. “Pete!” He hurried over and dropped right next to the younger man. “Pete, Pete! Look at me! Look at me, Petey! It’s me – It’s Krags.”

Peter
takes his seat as the food was served and he takes a few bites and
stops a moment swallowing as he just stares at the food then starts
eating again. It was just like his moms cooking.

Yondu starts shoving food in his mouth mostly the meat and grins. “I vote we need pigs in space if they taste like this..”

“I thought a Yawn Beast was pretty similar,” Carlos pointed out. “At least… seasoned kind of similarly. Though I only had it once back on M-Marvin-45.”

“I could send you boys home with some that I made,” Mr Ramon said with a smile as he finished up the last bit of cooking. He brought more sausages to the table as well as the rest of the pancakes he made. “I have my own special recipe for them and I enjoy making the links myself. Anyway, here you are – eat as much as you like.”

Kraglin was very quiet as he ate, taking his usual ‘shadow’ presence when he was out with Yondu. Silent, but always watching.

But he was really liking the ‘pancakes’. He hadn’t had a pastry this fluffy for quite some time.

Yondu grins. “I’ll enjoy my return trips all the more. Right boys?” Looks to peter and kraglin.

Peter just keeps in-naturally silent as he eats a pancake.

Yondu hums and turns to Kraglin who was equallybsilent but that was nothing new. “Humf. Fine… more sausage for me then.” Looks to carlos and smiles.

Kraglin just narrowed his eyes at Yondu as he put another bit of sausage into his mouth with the tiny pitchfork-like utensil.

Carlos nudged Yondu with a roll of his eyes. “Don’t be an ass,” he chided fondly, smiling a bit.

Yondu grins a bit as he eats. After breakfast Yondu was laying down rules as Kraglin and peter dressed in extra more human clothing so they can head out with Carlos and Mikey to the mall as it was called. “Be on your best behavior. And have fun. I’ll be here hanging with mr Ramon.” Turns to carlos. “Just kick them in the ass if they get to be trouble ok.”

Carlos rolled his eyes slightly. “If they don’t wanna draw any attention to themselves or me, they’ll follow mine and Mikey’s leads. Speaking of which…” He looked at Yondu. “Can I have my hoodie back? The one I wore back on the Eclector? I wanna wear it up so people can’t see me very well until… I guess we’re ready to declare that I’ve been ‘found’.”

Yondu looks down at the hoodie he was wearing then shrugs and pulls it off showing the blue skin and hands it to him with a grin. “Might smell like me… kinda been wearing it even at night.”

Carlos smiled back at him as he took the clothing back. “I’m sure it’s fine,” he said. Just for show he pulled it up to his nose and inhaled. “Mm… spicy,” he teased.

Kraglin wrinkled his nose a bit and resisted the urge to gag. God, older men were gross…

Yondu grins chuckling and nuzzles. “You don’t smell to bad yourself. Like sage of that one warm herb from that one planet… you said was like cinnamon..”

Carlos blinked at him. “Wait, really? You… you think so?”

“If we could go sometime in this planets rotation, that would be super,” Kraglin said suddenly, looking at Yondu without expression. But the fact that he spoke up at all meant he was getting a little annoyed.

Yondu glanced at Kraglin giving him a side eye but rolls his eyes. “You do Yeah. Well. My kids are getting impatient. Have fun Ok.

Carlos nodded. “I’ll grab some Cheetos for you,” he promised with a smile. He pulled the hoodie on and turned to leave. “Don’t let my dad scare you too much! We’ll be back soon!”

Mikey headed out to the garage and Kraglin grabbed Peter’s arm to lead him out as well. “We’re heading out, Dad!” Mikey called. “Text me if you need anything else for dinner!”

“I will!” Mr Ramon said, waving the group off with a smile.

Peter
looks at Kraglin then between Carlos and Mikey then Yondu. “……….
sorry…….” pulls back visibly wilting a bit not wanting to be the source
of everyone’s anger.

Kraglin narrowed his eyes slightly, but sighed and dropped his arms finally. “Thanks, Pete. C’mon then… you said something about breakfast?”

Carlos smiled. “Dad’s making some. Follow me, boys – and be nice, okay?”

Mikey wheeled ahead of him back into the dining room, and Carlos led the way.

Peter looks up and let’s everyone go infront of him before following. He also took a moment to look around the house. It had been y are since he’d seen a actual home. Not all overly advanced like in space.

Mr Ramon wasn’t at the table anymore – his plate was left half-eaten. Instead he was back at the stove, cooking up some more food for the two new guests. “Hello! You boys come in!” Mr Ramon covered up the sausages he was cooking and flipped over a pancake before wiping his hands off on a dishcloth and turning around to smile at the guests. “Hello!” he said again. “I’m Edwardo – I’m Carlos’ father.” He offered his hand to Kraglin first.

Kraglin scrutinized the hand for a moment, but then gingerly took it in his own. “Hi. Kraglin Obfonteri – First Mate on the Eclector.”

Peter looks over and waves. “Peter…. the dumb terran mascot……. not self titled….. no joke… that’s my rank…..”

Carlos blinked in surprise at that and gave Yondu an unimpressed look.

Mr Ramon frowned slightly, thinking it was strange, but he still offered his hand to Peter. “Well it’s nice to meet you. Tell me, do you boys have any allergies or anything I should consider right now? I’m making you some food, but I don’t want you two getting sick or anything.”

Peter shakes his hand nodding. “I’m

Human so as far as I know no allergies…. just nothing citrus for the real aliens…. they seem to forget especially kra….. uhhh… never mind…. just… no citrus…..”

Mr Ramon smiled. “So no orange juice or lemonade, huh?’ he asked. “Shame. But alright. I have pork sausage and buttermilk pancakes, along with syrup – that is made from tree sap. Everything sound alright to you?”

Kraglin shrugged. “It smells good,” he said, and Mr Ramon just smiled more.

“Alright! Carlos? Pull out a couple more chairs for these two.”

“Okay, Dad,” Carlos said he went to some chairs that were set up against a wall. He grabbed a couple and started to pull them over.
