Everything Is AWFUL and I’m Not Okay: Questions to Ask Before Giving Up on Yourself

Are you hydrated?

If not, have a glass of water. Dehydration can mimic
or increase feelings associated with anxiety and a
well hydrated brain functions optimally. Avoid
excess caffeine.

Have you eaten in the past three hours?

Don’t be a victim of hanger! Get some food–something
with protein, not just simple carbs or
high-fat. Nuts, hummus, and veggies are great
options to feed your studying brain. Keep healthy
snacks within reach to avoid mindlessly chowing
down on sweets.

Have you stretched your legs in the past day?

If not, do so right now. If you don’t have the energy
or time for a run or a trip to the gym, just walk
around the block or building. Even minimal exercise
preps the mind for learning so that you can focus
better and recall things easier, plus it’s good to get a
change of scenery.

Have you said something nice to someone in the
past day?

Do so, whether online or in person. Make it
genuine! We bet your study partner would
appreciate a compliment.

Have you moved your body to music in the past
day?

If not, jog for the length of a song at your favorite
tempo, or just dance around your bedroom for the
length of an upbeat song (singing along is a bonus)

Have you cuddled a living being in the past two
days?

If not, do so. Don’t be afraid to ask for hugs from
friends of friends’ pets. Most of them will enjoy the
cuddles too; you’re not imposing.

Have you started or changed any medications in the
past couple of weeks, including skipped doses or a
change in generic prescription brand?

That may be screwing with your head. Give things a
few days, then talk to your doctor if it doesn’t settle
down.

If daytime: are you dressed?

If no, put on clean clothes that aren’t PJs. Give
yourself permission to wear something special,
whether it’s a funny t-shirt or a pretty dress.

If nighttime: are you sleepy and fatigued but
resisting going to sleep?

Put on PJs, make yourself cozy in bed with a teddy
bear and the sound of falling rain, and close your
eyes for fifteen minutes while focusing on breathing
deeper with every breath- no electronic screens
allowed! Adequate sleep is a necessity for stress
management.

Do you feel ineffective?

Pause right now and get something small completed,
whether it’s responding to an email, loading the
dishwasher, or tidying up your room. Good job!

Do you feel unattractive?

Take a darn selfie. Your friends will remind you how
great you look. You are always insta-worthy.

Do you feel paralyzed by indecision?

Give yourself ten minutes to sit back and figure out a
game plan for the day. If a particular decision or
problem is still being a roadblock, simply set it aside
for now, and pick something else that seems doable.
Right now, the important part is to break through
that stasis, even if it means doing something trivial.

Have you over-exerted yourself lately–physically,
emotionally, socially, or intellectually?

That can take a toll that lingers for days. Give
yourself a break in that area, whether it’s physical
rest, taking some time alone, or relaxing with some
silly entertainment for a little. Time spent refreshing
yourself is never time “wasted!”

Have you waited a week?

Sometimes or perception of life is skewed, and we
can’t even tell that we’re not thinking clearly, and
there’s no obvious external cause. It happens. Keep
yourself going for a full week, whatever it takes, and
see if you still feel the same way then.

You’ve made it this far; and you will make it through. You are stronger than you think.

Because someone might need this today

some people’s blogs are being incorrectly flagged as explicit so if you would like to check your status, you can look it up on postlimit.com.

if you have been incorrectly marked as nsfw, you can appeal before tumblr permanently filters you as such and your blog is set back to default settings prior to december 18th here.

Thank you for this post! My blog (can you believe it, friends??) was flagged as NSFW, which might explain my recent invisibility…

I know I sometimes go over the board with sweaty wrestlers, but, really…??

Well that explains why none of my shit shows up in the tags I guess 🤷

If You Actually Want To Do Something About This:

thespectacularspider-girl:

If you’re wanting to show your displeasure, don’t just tag staff or support.  Take a page out of other consumer revolts and make sure your displeasure is known.

Don’t be an idiot.  Do not threaten, harass or otherwise make this personal.  Contact these companies, make your displeasure known, alert them that you are a customer and you will be leaving their brand across all boards unless they reverse their decision.

Be clear, be concise, be polite, but make your displeasure known.

New Info Will Be Added As I’m Made Aware Of It

Edit: This does nothing if it isn’t shared around

@staff

Asking as an Artist, how do you expect content creators to go through the literal thousands of things they’ve posted or reblogged to find their own content that was flagged so that they can ask for it to be reviewed?

Your algorithm is flagging things immediately – harmless things like cats or trees or ARMS. With the amount of things that will be in review, you are creating more work for yourselves to keep your users happy.

Punishing everyone who follows the guidelines, the content creators who are posting art or memes for exposure to their brand or those who simply want to make people’s experience on this site better, is NOT the way to fix this.

Other sites rely on reports by users to deactivate those who are breaking the rules. The current algorithm being used only transfers the work that goes into that into green-lighting harmless content that is mistakenly flagged.

People are not happy. So far, I am not having a very user-friendly experience on this site. I respectfully ask that you reverse it and find another way that does not punish rule-following content providers.

Reblogs are appreciated. And if you have anything to add, go for it! @staff when you do!

How to Backup your Tumblr

mockingbirdie:

livinginthequestion:

thepirateking:

fiction-is-not-reality:

I was just semi-complaining that I was still looking for a decent way to backup my +6k posts without having to use paid services or even just wordpress (which has an import from tumblr tool that asks for permission to access your blog and also make posts), when I decided to actually put some effort into my google search.

Results were positive: I have successfully backed up my blog

*By which I mean: everything that I have ever posted
Not included: drafts, queue, likes, followers, following, comments, notes, chat.

I followed this method (word by word), and now have a 450 MB folder on my computer with the name of my blog on it containing:

1. Folder “Archive” (contains .html files listed by month)
2. Folder “Media” (contains gifs and images, mine has +1k files in it; might contain also audios but I have no way of confirming that because I’ve never reblogged an audio post from this blog)
3. Folder “Posts” (contains single .html files, each one a post; I have +4k files in it)
4. Folder “Theme” (contains only my avatar, but it might be a matter of if you have personalized themes or not)
5. .html file “Index” (by opening it it will give you the archive of your blog organized by month; clicking on a month will open up the archive for that month, and you’ll be able to read all the posts for that month as if you were on your blog**, except sans your theme graphic, with each page containing 50 posts)

**I can see gifs, links, embedded videos, tags, number of notes (but I can’t open up the notes, clearly), text is also correctly formatted.

So yeah, in case anyone wants a very quick way to back up their blog, it took me less than 10 minutes.

P.S. I didn’t have any issue, but to be on the safe side always check for spyware and virus threats before and after downloading anything.

this is actually really useful if you have an art blog full of years of work that you otherwise no longer have access to the original files. A lot of the art I have in the early days of my art blog are in that boat. I did this process JUST for that reason and I was pretty astonished at just how many pieces of media it backs up! (literally all of it) Drawings I didn’t even realize were sitting in my archive due to having been posted to text posts or undercuts, or untagged for years! It’s worth it if just for that, even if tumblr isn’t shutting down or deleting your blog.

reference.

This is just for windows users, but just in case some of my followers can use it!

Staff: We’re getting rid of all adult content on Dec. 17th to combat illegal content!

Everyone: You do realize this ban only hurts the people producing legal content, right? Like, those small pages posting illegal stuff never tag their pages appropriately, and don’t care about having to remake a new blog if theirs gets nuked because they can just make a new burner account to post that stuff again.

Staff:

Everyone: The only adult content that will likely be spreading around would be the illegal content, since you are strong-arming the legally-abiding and responsible adult content creators who take care to tag and label their content and not post anything that’s god damn illegal.

Staff:

Everyone: That’s also assuming that there won’t be people that just continue posting adult content, either with censor bars or cuts to bypass the adult content check, or by just posting whatever anyway and not caring.

Staff:

Everyone: None if this even addresses the racism problems that people did have, including the adult bloggers you are now getting rid of. You can’t just get rid of text posts or images of disgusting rheotoric unless there’s a nipple in the mix, yeah?

Staff:

Everyone: Speaking of which, this new plan of yours still requires moderation, which is seemingly the main responsibility you are actively dodging with this adult content ban measure.

Staff:

Everyone: So now, basically nothing will have changed except for all the responsible adult content creators being gone that made up a decent number of your most active and loyal users, some of the most active critics and filters of racist content users being banned, and the only people being left posting illegal content or blatantly breaking your rules to post legal adult content to spite you.

How did you think this was going to pan out?

Staff: … but we said no adult content tho.
