So this happened to me a few days ago, and I thought maybe sharing my experience could help someone if this happens to them in the future.
I was checking my Tumblr when suddenly I was logged out from it and given the usual Log In page. When I entered the details to access my blog, this appeared:
My heart skipped a bit. I tried to re-enter the details (maybe I got them wrong the first time), but no, the same message about Termination was shown. I typed my blog URL and got the
ominous
:
Same thing with my sideblogs.
So obviously I was very worried. I contacted the Tumblr support but didn’t get an answer for 48 hours, only an automated reply. I already started mentally saying goodbye to my blogs, my posts and all my followers, when finally I recieved their answer:
(In case you can’t see the picture, it says:
Hello, We’ve restored your account. Thank you for bringing this problem to our attention. We’re sorry that it occurred, and we’ll do our best to make sure that it doesn’t happen again. You should now be able to log in just fine with your email address and password. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with.
My blog was restored and working normally. All my sideblogs were intact , and so were my posts and my followers. The only thing that was lost, is all the conversations by Messages. The people with whom you talked are still there, but all the history of the conversation is gone.
Alright so here is what you should do if this happens to you. Don’t panick like I did Click on the “contact support” link provided in the terminated window. Alternatively, go on Tumblr.com/support.
Politely explain your situation – give your blog URL, your mail, tell what happened exactly. I understand that the situation can be upsetting, but the person who will read the message and try to help you isn’t directly responsible for the termination of your blog. And sending an angry message with insults isn’t the best way to get your blog back either.
Wait for the reply of the team. If you feel like it takes too much time (more than few days for example), try to fill the Help/Support form again.
Once the team is in contact with you, keep the polite tone. Normally if your blog didn’t go againt the Tumblr rules and policies, you should getit back like I did.
Voila 🙂
@monstersandmaw heres something that may help if they come for you
Thank you!! Reblogging for others’ reference. (I saved the info elsewhere)
People always gloss over how mentally damaging it can be to work in retail. I fucking hate that whenever I say “I could never work in retail again” someone has to reply “You snowflake millennials can’t take a starter job because you have to INTERACT with other people” No. Fuck you. I’ve worked as a planetarium host. I’ve worked as a public speaker. I’ve worked as a tutor and as a student teacher. I can work with people. I can work with crowds. Retail was fucking different. Retail was being treated as a subhuman. Retail was being treated so poorly that you have anxiety attacks before work. Having to work retail was a factor in my last suicide attempt. If I hear you say one fucking word about retail workers playing the victim I will personally break every bone in your body. Fuck You.
The holidays are coming up. Retail workers are going to be spiraling into a nightmare beyond human comprehension. If you’ve worked retail, you know this. If you haven’t, be aware of it. Please be kind to every retail worker you come across. Please be patient and understanding. It is misery out there.
“i can’t do simple hygiene bc im depressed”
that’s easy babe! just do simple hygiene
Y’all always have to wallow in your misery instead of considering maybe, just maybe, the encouragement people like this give is just telling people to do one, easy thing instead of worrying about a whole routine. Can’t make yourself shower? That’s fine, just brush your teeth. Don’t have the energy to do your hair? Okay, just brush your teeth.
Making 1 small change that can start improving your mood leads to other small changes. When I couldn’t make myself shower I would make sure I changed underwear every day. And then I started using baby wipes to keep myself fresh. And then I worked my way back to trying to take showers every day. My record might not be perfect but I’m getting better.
It’s really unhealthy to keep the mindset that anyone who isn’t miserable and suffering under their mental illness or emotional problems doesn’t know what they’re talking about. Maybe they’ve just grown to learn how to love and care for themselves in spite of what they’re going through.
People please stop reblogging that post about that person who got ~fired~ after “working on akali for 9 months” it’s a straight up lie. Check out the real people behind the video, a french studio named Fortiche. Nothing in that post adds up. A lot of fortiche members actually have instagrams with the actual process, it was a contract so riot games had no one to “fire” since it wasn’t an in house job, and even if there was nobody would fire a person who could work ON THEIR OWN on a project like that (which is impossible btw.)
Please think before you reblog shit like that, it discredits every people fighting against exploitation in the video game industry. Just… stop. Inform yourselves.
Wha aaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh? Tumblr believing everything without doing any sort of research before spreading misinformation? Naaaah that doesn’t happen.
From what I read on twitter the person in question had worked on the REWORK (her abilities and such specifically?); not the skin design.
Now I still don’t see more on the *why* this person was fired but some people are linking me articles that companies will work people really hard then just fire them. However I still don’t know 100% if that’s the case; it’s radio silent.
After being on the internet for so long I very much like to see facts/proof upfront before I hop on things. Someone said the person who got fired leaked the rework – maybe that is what got them fired. Maybe Riot (…unsurprisingly, again I really do not think highly of them they’re utter garbage…) actually did fire them after working them really hard, for no good reason. Just to use them. But maybe there was more to it? We don’t know.
Firing someone just fucking sucks regardless…
Checked out the thread on Twitter. I find the entire thing highly suspicious. We can’t all have our fingers in everything happening with all of our favorite media but usually, and yes I am very aware this happens everywhere, but Tumblr has a reputation of spreading a lot of loaded lies with the intent to further tarnish someone’s reputation especially if it’s a “hive mind” or “band wagon” situation as is often the case in this hellsite.
I’m in no way defending or playing devil’s advocate for Riot. It’s a shit company from what I’ve read and seen. But if this person did leak information then being fired is a bit of an extreme but it was totally their fault. Companies have been cracking down hard on leaks since it’s been a frequent thing for the last few years.
What I would like to know is where is this person and why did they deactivate? If they hadn’t lied then why deactivate?
Worked on this girl for 9 months. Now this new music video comes out and she’s immensely popular, arguably one of the most popular characters in the LoL universe.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m really glad she’s a huge hit, it’s super exciting to see so many people love the character design and the gameplay, and know that I contributed directly and significantly to the behind-the-scenes engineering that makes it all work. It’s validating.
But it’s also so fucking melancholy to know I did so much work and put in so much time for such a shitty company, run by shitty people, and the reward I got for it was unemployment.
I threw a lot into this character. I cried at work. I started getting panic attacks, which I’ve never gotten before. I developed persistent heart palpitations from the daily overwhelming stress and had to go to the hospital (this is true, seriously.) I basically dropped all my friends outside of work. My manager (and his manager!) lied to me constantly to keep me working. They said I was doing a great job but to keep it up. Don’t worry, it’s going to turn out great, and it’ll all be worth it in the end – recognition, a raise, probably a promotion in short order. They promised me the world. When she was finally finished, I didn’t even get to go to the release party, they just walked me out.
I remember a quote from my last day, it sticks out in my mind: “I know you realize this is really hard for me,” my manager said. Yes, in the end, when he awkwardly informed me I didn’t have my dream job anymore – or any job at all – and then stared back at my shell-shocked face, my thousand-yard stare, the only thing he felt was sorry for himself.
She launched with no major bugs and was considered a technical success. Doesn’t matter. Get the fuck out.
I don’t know how I feel. A weird sensation of pride and intense bitterness. I did a good job; at least, I think I did. Unfortunately, internal validation is the only kind I’m going to get.
Everyone reposting KDA should see this. Riot has successfully distracted everyone into forgetting their culture of sexism, exploitation, and toxicity mere months after it was all revealed.
Look, I get it. Akali is EXTREMELY my type. It’s obvious how much love and care was put into her development. But it makes me furious to see all the free advertising that Riot is getting from people who I thought would know better.
And now? One of the people who is arguably responsible for all that free advertising? Who’s work is undoubtedly making Riot hundreds of thousands of dollars a day? Who was overworked to the point of near breaking? They get nothing. WORSE than the scant bit of credit that most devs can get in a big company like Riot. They got let go.
Fuck Riot Games.
One thing that I thought really sucked a lot is that the production company who made the KDA video isn’t even credited. They credit a lot of other people on their videos, usually, but the actual animators of the video are hidden; almost a lie by omission. At best it’s a honest mistake, at worst it’s sneakily trying to pass off the video as something made in-house when it’s not. 😦
It was named for the neckline made famous in the 1954 movie, “Sabrina”, starring Audrey Hepburn. While Edith Head won an Academy Award for the movie’s costume design in 1955, there has long been controversy over whether she or Hubert de Givenchy really designed the dress with what has also been called the H neckline.
pour one out for all the people who’s messages went unanswered because i told myself i’d answer them later but when later came around i decided it was Too Late
In case you wonder when it is factually accurate to call someone a fascist or a nazi, here’s a handy explanation:
Fascism is an authoritarian hyper-nationalist movement that dates back to Mussolini. It can have many forms but it generally strives to recover a mythical past of national/male/white supremacy, glorifies war, seeks to suppress political enemies and unions and follows a leader figure. Very often minorities become scapegoats. In fascism without any visible nazi influences, the main focus of that scapegoating is cultural and the focus is on the perceived failed ‘integration’ of minorities who need to learn ‘our national values’. It often presents these minorities with an ‘assimilate or leave’ ultimatum and seeks to prevent further immigration into its country.
For the record: fascism in all its forms is bad, it is deadly, it is a threat. It needs to be smashed.
Nationalsocialism is
an authoritarian hyper-nationalist movement
that dates back to Hitler. It has all the same common characteristics of fascism and it is a form of fascism. It also combines scapegoating with scientific racism, the idea that the targeted minority is inherently genetically a threat that can not be removed through re-education, integration, etc. Racial purity, through the exclusion and killing of minorities (perceived ‘lesser races’) and the exclusion and killing of people with disabilities, LGBT people, people with addictions, etc (perceived ‘pollution of the white race’) is a goal of nationalsocialists. For nationalsocialists the assimilation of minorities is not an option. They see assimilation as a threat because it further pollutes their precious ‘white race’.
So a nazi isn’t always someone who openly supports Hitler, most nazis are smart enough not to do that. A nazi is someone who combines fascism with the pursuit of racial purity.
So a modern example of a fascist movement is the identitarian movement, which focusses on the perceived ‘islamisation’ of Europe as a cultural threat, not a racial one. A modern example of a nationalsocialist movement in Blood & Honour, which explicitly names the ‘pure blood’ of ‘the white race’ as the thing it claims to defend.
Of course fascists and nazis mix and mingle a lot and exchange ideas. Nazism is a form of fascism after all.
A lot of movements start our presenting themselves as ‘nationalist’, become more explicitly fascist over time and eventually openly embrace the basic ideas of nazism.
Mussolini and Hitler influences each other as well.
And in practice, there are hardly any fascists who do not to some extend
believe that some people are inherently racially inferior, even if they
don’t openly admit it.
Many people in the identitarian movement even believe in the myth of ‘white genocide’, which is a classic nazi myth based on the pursuit of racial purity.
But for the record: if you wanna pinpoint the moment when an openly fascist movement becomes anopenlynational socialist movement: it’s when they start using the word race in their theories, start talking about how many children members of minorities have compared to white people, start arguing that we should ‘rethink eugenics’, start wanting to deport people regardless of how ‘integrated’ they are.
If you’re trans and you use a packer or breastforms on a day to day basis, do not use them at the airport. The body scanners that the TSA uses look for variations from a “male” or “female” body, so if you have bulges where they ‘shouldn’t’ be, you will get the patdown.
signal boost this, please.
there’s a page on the TSA’s website that has tips and info specifically for trans travelers!! I can’t remember everything it has on it but one of the big things is that if you get flagged for a patdown or other screening you can have it done in private if you so request 🙂 🙂
i haven’t seen any noise about this on tumblr yet, but a fire has completely wiped out a small town in california.
they’re calling it the camp fire. over 20,000 residents have been evacuated so far, the last area estimates i heard were over an hour ago at 18,000 acres and its still zero percent contained.
this is the smoke from about 18 miles away from the fire three hours ago. if you know anyone near chico, paradise, oroville or durham california you might want to check they’re okay
UPDATE: 4PM FRI NOV. 9, 2018
the fire has completely walked over paradise, magalia, and much of the rest of butte county. it’s under 10% containment and moving towards chico, which was been mostly evacuated as well. it’s been documented as one of the top 20 deadliest fires seen in california. i know many of the people personally whose lives have been destroyed by this fire. my aunt and uncle’s home, of whom we’re very close to, was demolished last night, same goes for family friends and others who lived in paradise– which is completely gone. there are 5 confirmed deaths, several dozen missing people.
EVACUATION SITES STILL OPEN AS OF 1 HOUR AGO:
Butte County Fairgrounds (199 E Hazel St, Gridley, CA 95948)
Yuba-Sutter Fairground (442 Franklin Ave, Yuba City, CA 95991)
Glenn County Fairgrounds (221 E Yolo St, Orland, CA 95963)
Chester Memorial Hall (22 Gay Street, Chester)
HOW TO HELP/DONATE:
“Currently the best way to contribute is to make a monetary donation via the North Valley Community Foundation website.” -abc7news.com
“Supplies: Hope Center in Oroville (1950 Kitrick Ave Ste. A) is taking donations. Hours: Friday and Saturday 8 a.m. – 5 p.m., Sunday 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. Needs: warm clothes, shoes, socks, coats (primarily for elderly residents).” -abc7news.com
the majority of those affected by the fire in paradise were elderly people. and having known paradise and magalia myself for years, it’s not a wealthy part of california. these people will need help, and lots of it.
if you have any questions, you can message me personally or seek information online or from the above references personally.
if you cannot help yourself, please spread the word and reblog. so many wonderful people are going through a terrible thing and need your help.
