The best part about this? They took a picture (read: spectrographic analysis) of the thing and found out it wasn’t an asteroid at all. It was a piece of a Saturn V rocket, discarded in space decades ago and set into an orbit around the sun. That’s right, this motherfucker spent 30 years orbiting the sun, waiting for a chance to have its revenge on the petty humans who abandoned it in the void.

So that weirdly common Star Trek trope in which one of our space probes comes back to fuck us up turned out to be true

Tim the elephant seeks human help when hit by a spear

When poachers hit Tim in the ear with a spear Tim knew where he could find help. Sadly this is not the first time Tim had been speared. He had been hit in the rump once before. His wound got infected. Rangers tranquilized Tim and treated his wound. Tim knew they would likely help him again. He sought out conservationist for help with his wound. African elephants ears have many blood vessels. They use their massive ears to cool themselves in the staggering heat. Blood flows thru their ears and is cooled very much like a car radiator. This adorable little robot is designed to make sure its photosynthesising passenger is well taken care of. It moves towards brighter light if it needs, or hides in the shade to keep cool. When in the light, it rotates to make sure the plant gets plenty of light. It even likes to play with humans.

Oh, and apparently, it gets antsy when it’s thirsty.

The robot is actually an art project called “Sharing Human Technology with Plants” by a roboticist named Sun Tianqi. It’s made from a modified version of a Vincross HEXA robot, and in his own words, it’s purpose is “to explore the relationship between living beings and robots.”

I don’t care if it’s silly. I want one.
