Black
Hat was now outside, watching this with the utmost amusement. He
laughed loudly, smirking widely. This was extremely entertaining!

Wha – laughing? Carlos was hearing laughing. Another lap around the front gate of the mansion and Carlos could see a tall figure out of the corner of his eye. He recognized it as the top-hat man he met yesterday. And he was laughing at Carlos getting chased by a possibly malicious robot. That was so ill-mannered of him.

But Carlos had other things to focus on. Like the math problem in his head…

“Hey, robot! Can you do calculations?” he called back to the metal behemoth behind him.

But either the robot couldn’t, or he just didn’t want to talk, the robot didn’t answer him. But instead, he sped up, clawed hands reaching for the human he was trying to catch. Black Hat smirked wider and watched, eager to see the human be caught.

Carlos yelped and tried to go faster. He could practically
feel the inches between the tails of his labcoat and the thing’s claws. Ugh!
Okay – maybe something simpler?

“This sentence is
false!”
Carlos screeched.

((from my current thread with @blackwhitehat. Black Hat and the Hat-bot Sentinel were both drawn from memory. I could have made the Hat-bot bigger I suppose… But I love its little tuxedo look. It’s so cute.

There’s also Carlos’ Energy-detection machine (or whatever I’m going to call it…)
It’s got little dowsing antennae because... it’s detecting. Geddit? XD

The meter reads COLD; GETTING WARM; HOT! HOT! HOT!

P.S: Black Hat is PISSED XD

Dibujo 1- Carlos: “Uh… Bonito sonrisa.”

Dibujo 3- Carlos: “¡El fajín es un buen toque!”

Art by me. The translations might not be that good… sorry if they’re not.

Black Hat cackled as he watched in amusement as the large robot went to attack the tresspassing human. This was fun!

“Oh my god… look at you!” Carlos exclaimed, his mouth splitting into a wide grin. “You look amazing! You look incredible – and so well-dressed! I haven’t seen a robot as amazing as you in such a long time!” Carlos was so excited – he wanted to take the time to admire the machine. But then he realized…

“Wait… you’re not stopping, are you?” he asked it as it continued toward him. He slid his camera into his pocket and took a step back, watching to see what the ‘bot would do.

The bot charged at him, its sharp claws shining in the sunlight as it grinned sadistically, reminiscent of the eldritch horror it was modeled after.

Carlos’ heart pounded and he started running. “You know, the cummerbund is a nice touch!” he called back to the robot as chased after him. “It really brings the whole aesthetic together!”

Carlos was stalling. He knew he couldn’t run forever. C’mon… his knowledge about robots had to save him somehow

Black
Hat smirked slightly when he saw the human backing away. Good. That was
how it was meant to be. He went back to his office with a smug grin.

Carlos went back to the motel. He grabbed lunch from a nearby shop (that sandwich had entirely too much mayo on it!) and gathered up more of his sensory equipment that he needed. He returned to the hill where the mansion sat, weapons still drawn, and started to set up a safe distance away. Walking the perimeter confirmed that the source of the strange energy was within the mansion, so Carlos naturally proceeded to start taking infrared pictures and making logs in composition notebooks (thank God he didn’t have to hide his pens anymore!)

Black Hat went about his usual routine, filming commercials, shipping out products, doing paperwork, etc. He glanced out the window as he walked past and scowled. The human was back. Dammit it to hell.

Carlos sat across the street from the mansion, propped against the hood of his car with his infrared camera aimed at the house. Or actually, aimed toward the base of the house – he suspected that maybe whatever it was causing the energy readings it might be underground. However, he did see movement in the upper part of the screen. Looking he could see a top-hatted figure in the window. He smiled and gave a little polite wave before looking down at his notebook and writing some of his observations down. He wanted to try an echo-locator in a bit to check for underground structures in a bit.

Black Hat snarled softly to himself. “FLUG! GET THE DAMN HAT BOT!” He shouted loudly to his scientist, storming away from the window. There was a faint cry of a terrified ‘yes sir!’ before a large robot suddenly came out of the manor.

Carlos looked up when he heard a loud mechanical clanging as something walked toward him. When he saw it, his jaw dropped. “Oh my god…” he said softly, staring at the large, hulking robot coming toward him.

“What would a scientist want with my city? Do you have a death wish, pathetic mortal?” Black Hat hissed lowly, his eye narrowed down at him. “You must be an idiot if you dare speak to me in such a familiar manor.”

“I just told you, I’m searching for an energy source that my instruments are picking up,” Carlos explained. “And I’m not being familiar – I’m being polite. You’re the one who’s leaning into my personal space, however.”

Carlos got the antennae back in both hands and looked down at his machine. It had been beeping rather aggressively at him for a little bit… he must be close. Though glancing at his danger meter Carlos could see that the needle was steadily moving further into the red zone, well on its way to the red zone. He hummed to himself – the energy source must be very unpredictable, he thought.

Black Hat began to exude some sort of dark energy. “You must be stupid if you aren’t shaking in your pathetic skin.” He smirked much wider than any human should be able to do, revealing razor sharp, acid green teeth.

Carlos looked back up at the other being, and seeing his smile he gave a startled shudder. “I… wow… nice teeth. I knew a guy who smiled like that. His, uh… his name was Kevin.” Carlos cleared his throat slightly. God, this was getting very awkward. “Look, pal, I’m not going to hurt anything, I promise. I just have questions that I wanna answer… that’s the whole basis of science. I… Are you familiar with science at all?”

“No. That is why I hire a scientist.” He growled softly. “Get you business done with and leave my island, before you mysteriously vanish off of this earth.” He smirked sadistically and turned on his heal, striding back towards his manor.

Carlos watched him leave, confused by his demeanor. “Um… alright,” he said, and he turned away to keep walking.

However, when he did the beeping from his machine suddenly slowed and the numbers dropped. Meanwhile, the danger-meter needle was stuck between orange and blood-orange. Curious, Carlos turned back toward the hat-shaped mansion and the retreating humanoid, and immediately the machine’s beeping picked up again.

“Oh… oh, interesting…”

Black Hat entered his home again, turning on the security system while he did so. He would watch this new human closely.

Carlos heard a loud mechanical whirring noise and by the time he looked back at the mansion various mechanical arms had sprouted from behind the building and there was a wicked assortment of weaponry aimed directly at him. Carlos jumped in shock, and a bit of concern for his personal safety. However, the weaponry didn’t do anything – just pointed at him. Because he was still on the sidewalk.

Okay, the top-hat person was unsociable (but really, were City Council back in Night Vale). Carlos backed away slowly, the beeping on his machine going slower with each step. Time to go back and get some longer-range scanners, he supposed.
