“I
don’t think so. Tullk and I go way back….. but halfnut….. Jamie is his
world. His mate. Loves him like he’s never loved anything else before.
To him Jamie is uhhh his angel you could say…”

“So… they wanted to try breaking him then?” Carlos asked. He
supposed he could see how that would make Yondu an easier target in that case…

Carlos refocused his work on looking at the components
inside and repairing the glass to the viewing window.

“Yeah…. shitty way to do it… going after jamie…… I really hope the kid pulls through….Tullk will never let him out of his sight…”

Carlos hummed, holding the materializer steady as it rebuilt and repaired the window. “If he’s lasted this long… then maybe he’s getting better and we just haven’t seen it yet.” Carlos wasn’t a doctor, but he didn’t think viruses or bacteria would last much longer in a person’s system. “So, what do you plan to do? Put watches on the access airlocks?”

“Something like that….. got oblo installing some more secret security cams…. anyone tries anything funny I’ll airlock him.”

Carlos paused, shuddering at the idea of someone being shot
out into space… where he currently was, with less than half an inch of space
suit protecting him.

Don’t think about
that! Focus!
God, this was going to drive Carlos mad. And give him
nightmares.

“It… sounds like you have everything under control, then,”
Carlos murmured, staring at the regenerating window. “You have a plan, I mean.
Which is good.” His words felt a little clipped as he said them – he was trying
really hard not to freak out.

“Hey….. you don’t have to worry…. I’m always going to protect you. I swear it carlos…. ok…”

“Yeah – Yeah, I know!” Carlos said, his tone unnaturally
high. He cleared his throat. “I – I mean, you said you would. I’m – I’m sorry,
I’m just trying to f-focus.” He tried to take a deep breath and stare at the
glass again.

Smiles and kicks off the back of the wall and pulls Carlos with him. “Careful now….” leads him to the bay windows to work on.

Carlos floated along with Yondu, grabbing onto handholds whenever they neared them.

As they neared the bay windows Carlos started to assess the situation. “Did you already grab everything I need?” he asked Yondu, spotting a small container mounted nearby on the hull. Carlos himself brought out a toolbelt, but not many components.

“Yes. Got it all already….” nods to him as he starts to pull up the panels. Hesaw a smear of red and realized it’s where half had hit trying to keep from being sucked out into the void.

Carlos started to get to work, trying to distract his mind
from the void behind him. He started to undo clasps on a damaged panel with one
of his wrenches. As he went on, nearly finishing it, he finally noticed the bit
of red and frowned. God… to see some of it outside
of the ship. He wondered if Half-nut’s foot got caught or something while he
was pulling himself in.

“Have we analyzed what could be on the hull?” Carlos asked
through the in-suit radio. “Like, what sort of germs?”

“You name it carlos… it’s why he’s so sick…. we’re treating him for a multitude of bacteria and virus’s…… and with the void being as it is.. bacteria throughbout it’s frozen airless black…. who knows…. most people don’t live more then a few days…. half’s… well… he’s fighting it…. and he has people who care..”

Carlos made a low, unhappy groan that didn’t quite translate
over the radio. He went about removing the panel and magnetizing it to the
nearby container. He was starting to remember how he literally thought Kraglin
would have spaced him given the chance, and now… it just scared him even more,
the thought of being in space.

“What, uh… if Half-nut had been stuck out here… do you think
Tullk would have left us?” That’s what he assumed the saboteur was trying to do
– make Tullk leave so Yondu had less friends around.

“I know… I just… ummm you know…..thought maybe you’d just like to sleep… nothing else. That’s all.”

“I’d… like to sleep?” Carlos asked. “End of sentence?”

“Yeah. Move into my room and you know.. at night.. we just sleep….no nookie nookie..”

“Oh,” Carlos said flatly. He didn’t mean to sound
disappointed… he just thought that Yondu might’ve known about his sleeping
trouble. “Um… you’re not a light sleeper… are you?” Carlos then asked him, a
little nervously.

“Nope. I sleep like a log. Honestly…”

Oh. Well, Carlos could work with that. “Okay – well, that’s good,” he said. He offered Yondu a smile. “I’d… I’d be willing to give it a shot. Just one night at first – see how well it goes.” Eventually, if they kept going the way they were going, they’d obviously be sharing more often. Carlos just wanted to know if his sleeping problems would get in the way of Yondu’s sleep first though.

Yondu smiles and kisses his forehead as they head out. “Now when we go out there. Remember. Do not let go of the side of the ship. Do t want to float away. But no worries I’ll get ya if you do.”

“I remember,” Carlos said. “THough you really need to get a tether system. It’s really dangerous without one.”

“Hmmmmm not a bad idea…. I’ll se about getting it established……” checks hisspace suit nodding at times and adjust others. “There ya go. Gonna have to get you some leathers…. gets chilly. Well… let’s go.” Opens the hatch and holds Carlos as a gust tries to pull them outbto the void.

The gust surprised Carlos and he clung onto Yondu’s arm as he tried to keep his feet on the floor. However, it quickly proved to be useless and he was left floating, hands tightly gripping Yondu’s arm and elbow.
