Stephen chuckled at the word ‘strange’being used in a context to describe everything again. Maybe living here wouldn’t be so bad, he could find a way to harness his magic in a new light, if he could at all.

The red light from the pizzeria caught his eye instantly. From what he could see, there were no monsters at all, so far. Was this all a rouge to lead him here for another reason to capture him? He definitely had to stay on his guard this time.

Carlos was a little uneasy. Those creatures
had been practically surrounding his car when he left earlier. Maybe their
attention had been drawn by the blue imp creatures.

As he pulled into his parking spot however
something suddenly dropped down onto his car hood with a loud THUD! Carlos slammed on his brakes,
nearly dislodging the thing, but claws scratched at his windshield before
grabbing onto the hood. Its head finally emerged and the creature gave a loud,
hellish shriek, displaying a mouth full of sharp, yellow teeth.

“Oh – shit!”

“Bloodstones. Fascinating. In my culture that is considered black magic and leads to unimaginable results that are sometimes demonic or unstable.” He shrugged off the thoughts of the angels once again and looked out the window as they drove by. After an awkward silence, Stephen turned back to ask, “Do you practice blood magic, Carlos? You practice this town’s culture, yet you are not from here. It questions me as to what you are, well, besides a scientist. Are you an all seeing being who is just here to explain things for the people?”

Carlos looked over at him. “Oh, uh, well I
practice blood magic where it’s mandatory. Like when getting the coffee maker
or microwave to work, or getting into the occasional sealed door,” he
explained. He turned back to look at the road. “I am a scientist – always have
been. I’m not an all-seeing being though – that’s more of a job for the Sherriff’s
Secret Police, and they’re doing their damnest to be that way. As for demonics
and stuff… some of that is already around. I guess people figure they can’t
make it much worse.”

“I apologize for asking, I was just curious.” Stephen’s hand went to turn on the radio to see if there was any good music to play. “Secret Police. So like the Secret Service I guess. Everything will make sense in due time, hopefully. One situation could lead to explaining thousands more this town faces on a daily basis. But I have never heard of using magic to power electronics. That is….strange indeed.”

Carlos smiled at him and nodded. “Yeah… it’s
very strange. But like I said, that’s why I’m here – to learn about the
strangeness. And either everything will make sense… or you just start to accept
it.”

Carlos then pointed out toward something past
the windshield. “See those red neon signs?” he asked. “That’s Big Rico’s Pizza.
My lab is right next to it. Keep an eye out – those monsters are probably
nearby.”
