David
thinks this camp is the greatest thing this side of sleepypeak. He’s
not gonna be able to tell you anything bad other than the Quartersister
incident.

I thought you said David didn’t know about the QM’s… um, past time.

No that was a different thing. The Quartersister incident happened in the camp, it was mostly David’s fault.

Oh my god… *sighs deeply* Okay… what happened? With the Quarter-sister?

She was QM’s quarter-sister or something and they tried to get hitched then the fire killed her but QM lived witch leads me to believe that QM is an immortal cryptid.

…

I’ve met immortal cryptids and they don’t look like that.
What the f… heck? Do quarter-sisters even… how does that work?

I dunno, probably something to do with money.

Right, you said he embezzled money at some point. You said
he doesn’t care about the camp – got an idea of why it’s still around?

I mean,, David kinda runs it now, I guess?

But how does he get paid? Why hasn’t Campbell just let the
camp go? I mean… more than it has – your guys’ bathrooms are atrocious, by the
way. I hope David has taught you how to use nature properly.

Beats me! Gwen’s been trying to get another job, that’s all I know. What do you mean ‘use nature properly’

Apparently David hasn’t taught you… It’s where you dig a
hole first before you… do your business. You know, in case the plumbing backs
up. That way you can bury it and it can decompose faster and safer.

What do you expect it’s literally a fucking (language) hole with a plastic cover over it. Plus David was gonna have QM teach us that and apparently it wasn’t a ‘camp sanctioned activity’ or something. That and QM was busy

Max, hey – come on. Language. But hey – now you know: bury
the number 2. You’re ahead of the curve already.

*sighs* As for the camp… I guess I’ll talk to David and see
what he can tell me.

Carlos was taken off-guard, but he merely gave the other a contemplative frown before reaching out to comply. “Uh… alright,” he said.

Admittedly, she had shown up a little bit early. She always did that with this kind of thing. She had tried to keep herself busy beforehand, packaging up some tea blends to sell on her online store, and yes, she got through a few orders, but soon enough, she found herself too antsy. She had headed upstairs, and gotten herself dressed in a black, long-sleeved, off-the-shoulder shirt, and a soft-pink, knee-length tule skirt, paired with chunky, holographic heels. Her hair had been curled to frame her face just so, and her makeup had been applied in soft pinks and iridescent hues. She now sat at a table, foot bouncing nervously as she held on to a venti Youthberry tea. They had tea now, who knew? She knew she had gotten here early, but it seemed like so much time had passed since then. Where was he..?

Carlos parked outside and got out of the car. He almost
forgot to turn it off, but at the last moment remembered and leaned in to yank
out his keys. He sighed heavily, adjusting his labcoat, before going up to the
shop.

Carlos walked in and for a moment he forgot who he was
looking for. But upon seeing her he smiled and hurried over to her table.

“Hey, hey… sorry I’m late. I was working and I wasn’t paying
attention to the sun…”

She let out a sigh upon seeing him, not having realized she had been holding her breath. She stood as he approached, and suddenly felt slightly overdressed. Oh, she had definitely put too much thought and effort into this. “It’s fine, don’t worry about it,” she said with a reassuring smile. “I get how that can be.”

Carlos smiled at her as he sat down in the chair across from
her. He was relieved – she didn’t seem annoyed. That was good.

“How has your day, been?” he asked her.

“Hmmm
money is good. I like how you think.” Helps him finish up repairs then
floats them back into the ship and shivers pulling andcwalking quickly
to his room. “Coooold!”

Carlos followed after Yondu, rubbing his hands together to
try to warm them up. “Do you wanna try to make some cider back in the Captain’s
Quarters?” he asked the other man. “I’d do it, but… I’m not a very good cook.
Like, at all. I can help where I can, though.”

“Hot spiked cider it is. fuck it’s cold!” Shoves the door open and literally runs for the furs and flings them around f his shoulders.

Carlos locked the door behind them and rubbed his shoulders.
“Uh – I’d rather not have it spiked. I don’t do well with alcohol… not unless I’m
okay to sleep for the rest of the day.” He went over to the in-room food prep
unit and started to find a kettle and some cups.

Follows him around like a walking fuzzy shag rug.

Carlos looked at Yondu and offered him a smile. “Don’t you
have a sweater? I’d imagine it’d be hard working the heating element with your
blanket like that…”

“Yes…. but then I’d have to remove my coat to put it on……….” flops the furs over carliss head and rushes to the closet and digs through it for the sweater.

Carlos made a soft ‘eep!’ sound when the furs were dropped
over him. He feels around to find the counter to set down the cups he got out
of the cupboard. “C-Captain! I’m holding things here!”

“And yer doing great job of it babe.” Pulls on a old sweater that said merry Christmas ya filthy animal on it.

Carlos finally found the counter and was able to set the
things down. He then pulled off the blanket and started to sort of roll/fold it
with his arms when he caught sight of Yondu.

“Wha… where the hell did you get that?” he asked, genuinely
shocked.

“Earth…. Year’s ago scoping out the place for some easy money. Easy to fit in on that costume holiday thing…… was cold saw this sweater I liked the words.”

“You went to Earth and got an ugly Home Alone Christmas
sweater… because you basically thought it was cool?” Carlos asked him.

“Well… Everyone was saying so. Lots of people wear this. And hats. And it’s not nice calling it ugly.”

Carlos stared at him for a moment, but then laughed. “No, no…
we, uh… it’s hard to explain, but a lot of people do like ‘ugly Christmas
sweaters’. It’s just what they’re called. And… I’m absolutely baffled that you
managed to get your hands on one to wear unironically when you’re cold.”

“Huh….. interesting……” shrugs and heads over to start making cider pulling him in a hug and snuggles.

Carlos smiled and chuckled. “You’re making me a little
jealous now… I wish I had my ugly sweater from Earth. It has formulas and a
test tubes on it…”

Yes, yes. Carlos, I read the fine print. I was assured, however, that there would be enough science things there to keep Angie sufficiently entertained and help her with her desire to be a scientist like you. And if the camp proves to be insufficient, well, you’re only a few miles away.

I’m just over two miles from the camp. But I didn’t know
this – Max described the camp as a scam. How can they run so many different
types of subjects at the same time?

I assume there are different stations for each active camp, like those enrichment thingies humans do for schools. You’re nearby, why not see if you can observe the camp for a day or something? I have connections near there, and while the human who started the camp isn’t the most trustworthy, he’s rarely if never there so I wasn’t concerned with much more than humans-only offering science near you and some of my contacts. I gave her more than ample means of defending herself if necessary.

Mia, this is summer camp. Angie shouldn’t have to defend herself! I just—

*he pauses. He’s then apologetic.*

I’m sorry, Mia. I know… I’m not Angie’s legal guardian and I
can’t really say where she should go for summer camp. I just… I’m really
concerned and I don’t really like all the shady things I’m learning about this
camp.
