Hanzo gave a hum of amusement, glancing up at the mistletoe, “isn’t there some American tradition about this?”

Carlos was perplexed for a moment, until he looked up. He
then laughed softly. “Ah… yeah, there is,” he said. “Though it’s not mandatory,
you know…” Carlos had honestly only been caught under the mistletoe, like,
twice. Both times he let the person kiss him. But he’d never kiss somebody if
they weren’t okay with it.

Hanzo gave a soft chuckle, still looking at it for a moment, “I don’t see why we shouldn’t~”

Carlos grinned at him and shrugged. “Well, if you’re game,”
he said. “Where do you… just on the cheek or, what?”

*Max shruged* Kinda over there. *He points over to a clearing where a small fire can be seen*

*looks* Okay. Sorry, I asked when. Sorry – I must’ve mumbled or something. Should we head over
now?

Oh. Well I mean it’s sorta already started so,,

Has it? *he squints in the darkness and can see figures* Oh!
Alright – let’s go! Hey, I brought Starbursts, if kids still like melting
those. *he pulls a bag out of his labcoat with a grin*

We mostly just do s’mores, but, I guess since we’re burning this shit *he holds up the dress and crown bunched up in one hand* we probably won’t do anything but get yelled at, or “politely Scolded.”

*looks at Max* I was planning on sharing with everyone –
they’re a treat to go with smores. Do… you kids not do that?

We’ve never done it before but what’s stopping us now? We’re burning dress-up shit for fucks sake.

These are yummy. I’m sure your counselors would love it.
Then after everyone leaves, you and I can do our thing with the fire.

Sounds good, I guess.

*grins at him and gestures for him to follow* Let’s go then, kiddo! *tottles over to the campfire*

*Max hides the stuff behind his back for heading over*

*Carlos had loads of fun at the campfire. He introduced
himself and his daughter Angela was super happy to see him. She was also introduced
as the newest camper. Eventually, Gwen decided the night was done and started
leading some of the kids back to their tents.*

“I did. Hehe. He may be big but he’s a cuddled and gentle.”

Carlos laughed again. He looked at the critter. He could try
naming it something spacy and cool… but then it occurred to him that maybe he
should pick something that translators didn’t exactly translate – something that
would sound the same all around. Something Earth.

“Um… what if I call him John Wayne?”

“John Wayne? Ok earth boy hehehehe. John Wayne he is. Johnny for short.” Reaches out and pets the baby creature.

Carlos just smirked a bit. “No – it has to be John Wayne. No
nick-naming. Nobody calls John Wayne ‘Johnny’.” He also reached out to a feeler
and let the little one wrap it around his wrist.

Yondu nods and holds him close as the baby plays with them.

Carlos watched the animal with a softer grin. “Awe…. I’m
sorry, but he’s really adorable. I… I wish I had my phone with me to take a
picture.”

Yondu smiles and tosses a little orb out that turns and scans them taking a few pictures and a little video.

For a second, Carlos about panicked when Yondu threw the orb
out into space. However, he realized what it was and let out a small sigh of
relief as it stopped and started to take pictures. “That’s really handy,” he
told Yondu. “Things like that on Earth still have to be remote-controlled.”

“A network,” Carlos said, nodding to him. “Like, all of it
being attached with wires. Or without wires – it depends on if everything has
signal receivers.” He smiled at Hancock. “Yeah… if you managed to get and build
all that machinery and got some wire, I could hook it all up no problem. It’d be easy to program them from the terminal instead of just putting it together and hoping it doesn’t shoot you.”

“That…. sounds perfect for our next project–– or…. yours, I guess. I’ll pay ya to set somethin’ like that up, I’m guessin’ ya know how to build the turrets and shit too, right? I can send someone out for parts if you’ll help me put it all together.”

“Yeah, I’ve taken apart a couple, and even put one together
for protection one night… though I didn’t have a way to power it at the time.
It was more like a scarecrow. But yeah – I can do that.” He smiled at Hancock.
If he wasn’t determined before, he definitely was now. A job, and the
possibility of follow-up work? Carlos would have even made the Terminal fly if Hancock had asked him to!

selfmedicatingmayor:

Carlos actually giggled at that. “Come on, man… I don’t
think I’m that much older than you. Am I?” He tried to think if Hancock had
told him how old he was – he was younger than Carlos, obviously, but by how
much? He didn’t know off the top of his head.

“You’re not that much older, heh. You said you were thirty, right? I’m twenty-eight. Young, I guess, but old enough to have plenty of experience.” He shot a wink at the other man. “Bein’ close in age doesn’t change the fact you’ve got the look, though. Like I said, I appreciate a little grey hair, I think it looks nice.”

“I’m thirty-six,” Carlos told him, smiling slightly. “A bit older than thirty.” He then sniffed and turned his head to the windshield,
pretending to put on a bit of a pompous attitude. “I could practically be your father!” He was joking completely, of
course.

“I haven’t given the bloodstone magic respect?” It was considered black magic in his practice, but desperare times called for desperate measures. The doctor said a silent prayer to his gods, the Vishanti, and rose. “I need at least 5 bloodstones for this to work.” Stephen began to search the lab for some bloodstones that were on hand. “If you say so Carlos, you are the scientist and expert of this town. Whatever illogical methods this place goes by, I have to follow them to survive. At this point I have no other options other than to go MacGyver on this situation.” His voice carried with the opening and closing of drawers and cabinets.

Carlos just watched Dr Strange with mild confusion as he
searched around. The little bamf on his shoulder was clinging to his head to
stay in place. It cooed and waved at Carlos, giving a wide, toothy grin. Carlos
felt compelled to just smile and wave back at the cute little creature.

“Well, I’m not sure if it’s so much about ‘MacGyver-ing’
anything, but more about that using magical doorways already in place,” Carlos
started to explain. “As far as I know, MacGyver was an inventive spy, not a
magician. The town of Night Vale has something going on in it – and not just
the weird portals, though those happen quite often.  But I mean something deeper – deep, powerful,
and ancient. Possibly Eldritch, though not as well-known as, say, Dagon or Cthulhu.”

“I used MacGyver as a verb. You know. Take objects that are around you and make them useful for the problem you are facing. When I had no artifacts at my disposal once to keep things in control I took a bat, wrapped in barbed wire and focused my energy through that.” he let out a small ‘aha’ as he came across a bloodstone. “You know if you have confirmed what you are saying, you just opened me a nice can of worms. This whole town…is definitely strange. One of the strangest phenomenons I have ever encountered through the millennia I have been serving as Sorcerer Supreme. It is either doomed to this strange Hell that has embedded it for so long, or I was called to bring some order to this place because we all know about the laws of entropy and such. I took basic physical science in school. I was a neurosurgeon, actually….” Stephen’s thought was cut short as he head disappeared under a sink.

“It would be hilarious if I had a tome just sitting in my library about this town or the Eldritch sorcery surrounding this area….oh if that is true, I would eat my shoe, I tell you. Could have made this a lot easier…” From out of a portal that just so happened to be in the oddest of places, he pulled out another bloodstone.

Carlos lifted an eyebrow at him. “Dooming Night Vale? Or
bringing order?” he asked. “Well… I don’t know about order. Order probably
doesn’t really exist anywhere. I’ve been working here to find out just what’s
going on here… and I’m not really any closer. But… Night Vale is full of some
good people. People who put down a corporation trying to take over the town,
because they like how things are here. “ He smiled. “Maybe if you get to know
the town a bit better you’d learn to appreciate it.”

Carlos looked at the bloodstone, and then nodded his head
toward a door. “I’ve got my personal stones upstairs in my apartment, if you
want to borrow them as well.”
