“Correct! I think…”
“It is correct,” Carlos told him, smiling slightly. “I’m a scientist – and math is science.”

“I see everything around
here kid,” Max replied with a proud, smug grin. “And I happened to
notice Gwen sneaking around, so I investigated. It just took a few hours
to catch her sneaking off and I just followed her.”He stopped in
front of a log, half covered with a tarp. “Followed her right to here.”
He added, and lifted the tarp to reveal a small cluster of cola cases.Angie couldn’t help letting out a little gasp. “Oh, there’s
a lot of them!” She knelt down and reached out to pick up one of the cans. “Oh –
and it’s cool! The surrounding dirt and the log must be acting as a sort of refrigerator,
keeping the sun off and insulating a cool temperature. That’s really nice!”Max grabbed a can for himself and cracked it open. “Yeah,” he agreed, nonchalantly leaning on the log, “but I don’t think that was intentional. Just convenient.” Grinning, he took a gulp of the soda, and seemed to relax immensely doing it.
Angela stood up, still clutching the soda can, and put the
tarp back in place. She wiped off the top with her sleeve before opening it and
taking a drink. She didn’t usually drink cola, but it was better than the juice
that got served to them. She looked at Max with a smile, holding the can to her
with both hands. “Thank you for showing me this,” she told him. “I felt like I was
never going to have soda again.”
“Don’t
worry. I got you. You won’t float away with me. I’ll get you.” Floats
into the center of the creatures and some stop to nudge curiously at
them little tentacles caressing at them gently as the float around them.Carlos gasped when one of the tentacles slid down the front
of his suit. “Oh – Oh my god,” he gasped. “Yondu, I… what are they doing?”“Calm down. There…. seeing you… or.. feeling.. it’s how they see. By touch. There just checking you out. See listen there singing you a song. Means they like you…. and now there dancing.. flashing there colors. That’s how they say hello.”
Carlos just held onto Yondu’s suit, his body frozen as the
tentacles – or rather, feelers – catalogued him.It was so strange. Carlos had never experienced anything
like this. It sort of reminded him of dolphins back on Earth. Or elephants –
just large, curious creatures that liked people well enough.“That noise… er, the song they’re singing… is it telepathic?
I’m… I’m having a bit of a hard time being able to tell.” It was in his head…
but his translator wasn’t doing anything with it so he couldn’t be hearing it
through the radio in his helmet.Yondu nods. “Yes. They sing to you each song is different for everyone. I’m getting a different song. I’ve met this pod before.” Holds him close and smiles and kisses him.
Carlos looked at him, a little surprised. “You’ve seen this
pod before?” he asked. He then looked back at the animals. “What… what are they
doing out here? In the cold and nothingness?”“They live out here…space the void is there habitat…. they go planet side to feed but this… is there habitat… they are old ancient creatures..”
“It’s incredible,” Carlos said softly. “We don’t really have
things like this on Earth… except for maybe in the ocean, and even then they’re
very hard to see. Our technology just isn’t quite advanced enough…”
Another feeler had come and started to feel around one of
Carlos’ legs. He found himself holding the leg out to let the creature explore
him.

Carlos laughed softly. “You know, I don’t hear that sort of
thing very often,” he said. “Mikey teases me about the grey all the time, but
not meanly. I just haven’t really thought of it as making me ‘distinguished’.”“Well, you should hear it more. I think you’re a very handsome man and you deserve to be told that more often.” He paused, then added. “Besides, that ‘salt and pepper’ look has always done things for me–– but that may just be me having a thing for older men, who knows?”
Carlos actually giggled at that. “Come on, man… I don’t
think I’m that much older than you. Am I?” He tried to think if Hancock had
told him how old he was – he was younger than Carlos, obviously, but by how
much? He didn’t know off the top of his head.
Carlos thought. “Well, say you had a network. And you had
devices attached to that network. Um… completely hypothetical, but what if
Charlie was attached? You could theoretically use the improved terminal to manage
his work and his protocols. I’m not saying hook him up, because I don’t think
he’d appreciate that, but you could.” Another idea suddenly hit Carlos. “You could
also wire it up to turrets, lights, and alarms. For security’s sake.”“A network?” He squinted, trying to figure out exactly what that meant. “Turrets….. that’s somethin’ there. Is that something you’d be able to do? I wouldn’t mind increasing security here, it helps a hell of a lot to have something like that running when super mutants turn up and try to bust the gates down.”
“A network,” Carlos said, nodding to him. “Like, all of it
being attached with wires. Or without wires – it depends on if everything has
signal receivers.” He smiled at Hancock. “Yeah… if you managed to get and build
all that machinery and got some wire, I could hook it all up no problem. It’d be easy to program them from the terminal instead of just putting it together and hoping it doesn’t shoot you.”

“God, I need a bath,” Carlos murmured aloud. He’d just
caught a whiff of himself and yeah – he wasn’t comfortable with what he was smelling.
He sighed deeply and mentally put it on his to-do list for the day.“Is that so?” The ghoul responded from across the room, looking up from the book he’d been reading to give Carlos a curious look. “Well, if you’d like a little help with that, I’m more than willing to lend a hand~”
Carlos stiffened. He shut his eyes, cursing himself mentally
before looking over at Hancock with an apologetic smile. “Sorry for the TMI… I
guess I shouldn’t have said that out loud.” He sighed. “Are we okay on water
for me to take one tonight?” He ignored Hancock’s flirting for the moment –
Hancock was always flirting with him. Not that that was a bad thing however…
“Wait, meme-speaking?” Stephen raised an eyebrow at that. All he heard was coos and clicks like a small infant animal trying to communicate for the first time. Bamf? Like…..Nightcrawler bamf? Were these…..actual bamfs?“
“No…these creatures are harmless. I know their well….father if it seems to be that way…” Stephen held out his hand with a smile. “They’re well….they’re demons. Demonic in nature but completely harmless. Mischievous more than anything…we call them bamfs because that is the sound they make when they teleport. Yes….they teleport. And to be very accurate, yes they are from Hell. Wonder how they populated so fast and got here in the first place. Tell me…have you come across a man by the name of Kurt Wagner? He well…he looks like that.” he pointed to the blue fuzzball. “but he is human size and has a German accent. He’s also a Catholic priest so don’t let that throw you off.”
Carlos looked at him. “I haven’t been around to hear the noise
they make when teleporting – I’ve just heard second-hand accounts. So, wait,
they’re not saying ‘BAMF’ as in ‘Bad-Ass Mother…’ um, ‘F-word’?” he asked Dr
Strange. “And… no, I haven’t seen a big one. Just a few of the little ones
around here.” He considered the creature. “Teleporting… it might explain how
they got here. Perhaps there was a shift in space while they were teleporting
and they just ended up here. But then those monsters that came in after them…”
How did they get there? Could they teleport too?
Carlos gestured toward the creature. “Can you pick it up? I
don’t want it getting hurt on the equipment it broke.”
“Don’t
worry. I got you. You won’t float away with me. I’ll get you.” Floats

Carlos got a little flushed at that. He smiles sheepishly,
dropping his gaze. “C’mon… I’m not really ‘handsome’. I’m thirty and I’m already
greying, see?” He laughed nervously, smiling at Hancock.“Are you serious, mate? I happen to think it makes you look distinguished, for one thing.” He smiled over at him. “There’s nothin’ wrong with a little grey hair, and if you have a problem with it, there’s always dye or magic to cover that right up. Regardless of hair color though, you are an attractive man and I don’t wanna hear you sayin’ otherwise. No putting yourself down, my friend.”
Carlos laughed softly. “You know, I don’t hear that sort of
