As the summer days rolled by, a full moon crept closer and closer. Thankfully, the woods surrounding the camp were large and caves were scatted everywhere, maybe Carlos could wait this out in a cave? all he had to do was find one and hope some other animal didn’t make its home there, right? -(the worse starter maker) L

Carlos wandered through the forest. He knew he’d seen a cave somewhere – it looked like an old bear cave, though he hadn’t gone in it before. He wanted to be as far away from his camp and the summer camps, in case the children had an idea to wander around at night to hunt for snipes. The full moon would make visibility perfect for it, so it was a reasonable concern in Carlos’ mind.

He finally came across the cave he was looking for. And not too soon either – the moon would rise probably within the next ten minutes. Carlos ventured forth, holding his flashlight up to search the inside of the cave. Hopefully it was empty. Could a werewolf beat a bear? Maybe?

the cave seemed empty aside from from old bones and cobwebs, at least, for the first few minutes before Carlos could hear something being dragged towards the caves opening

For a moment Carlos was frozen. It was too late for him to try to escape – there just wasn’t any more time.

Carlos shut off his light and tried to hurry further into the back of the cave. He could see somewhat of where he was going, and he wondered if his eyesight was already improving before the transformation. He pressed himself against the wall behind a sort of obstruction jutting out from it. He hoped that whatever it was would be scared away easily.

Mia hummed to herself as she paced her home, considering. Carlos was supposed to have a visitation with Angie soon, and she knew her human friend was….forgetful, sometimes. Surely he wouldn’t forget about the chance to spend time with his own daughter though, would he?

……Yeah, no. She’d better call.

Picking up the phone and punching in the number out of quick habit, she waited for an answer, on foot tapping against the hardwood floor.

Something changed in Carlos. Not physically… no, not yet, but it was familiar. Familiar and pretty damn unsettling.

Yeah, he remembered it: the heightened senses, the cravings, the ‘instincts’, the feeling that his skin was going to just peel away at any minute to give way for fur… He wasn’t looking forward to it.

His cellphone rang with the funky beats of a Classic IV song to draw his attention– a little reminder that despite his own issues, the world was marching forward around him and he had to either participate in it, or tell it to leave him alone for a little bit. Carlos answered it, noting the caller before he did.

“Hello?” he said into the receiver.

“Carlos, hi!” she chirped as her friend picked up the phone. Well, at least he’d not gotten so caught up in his science he’d let his phone die! That certainly would have been awkward.

“I was just calling to make sure you were still good for Angie to come over tomorrow? She’s been looking forward to spending the night with you again.”

If the fae woman had any inkling on what her usually human co-parent was going through at the moment, she certainly made no mention of it.

Carlos’ gut twisted at Mia’s words. That’s right… Angie was supposed to come over. Dammit he’d completely forgotten. Between his usual work and the sudden change and time just not really existing in Night Vale… yeah, he’d forgotten.

Carlos couldn’t help the sigh that escaped him, and it was clearly very audible through the phone.

“Mia,” he said softly. “I… I’m not sure it’s a good idea anymore. I mean, at least this time. I’m, um… “ He hesitated for a moment, trying to think of how to put it. But, he reasoned, with Mia bluntness was probably the best policy. “I’m pretty sure I’m going to turn into a werewolf again. I’m concerned that it’s not safe for her to be near me right now.”

“My stupid brain tells me I’m undeserving of love.”

“I… I’m very sorry to hear that. You okay, kiddo…? Did something happen?”

“Oh pft! Yeah totally,” of course that was a lie, “totally fine! Why wouldn’t I be fine… I’m fine. Do I not look fine?”

“Well, I would have to say you don’t. Which is okay, by the way – it happens to the best of us.” He watched the kid, wondering if something happened, or if this was stress accumulating from school or what-have-you.

the forest was quiet as usual til what sounded like a storm opened up from a small circle a few feet off the ground, complete with lightening flash off and striking trees but as quickly as the the ‘storm’ started, it ended, leaving only a few burn marks and a broken man on the ground -(sending this again cause i know tumblitch eats asks) dedmax, a starter for jon!

Carlos went out into the storm with his equipment, since the weather was really interesting around Sleepy Peak Peak (what, with Spooky island and that one side of the lake always being covered in dark, foreboding clouds).

As he approached one of the locations of a lightning strike however he paused, seeing a person on the ground. Oh no – did it strike someone?

Carlos hurried over and dropped his equipment to the side to start inspecting the body for life.

“He-hello? Hello, can you hear me? Sir?”

J: “Nope” he crossed his arms over his stomach, glancing back at Carlos  “Believe Me when I say actually tried though..”

“Should I pick up some drugs to help you?” Carlos asked. “Benadryll or Melatonin or something? You need to rest to heal…”

J: “I probably have some at home still.. Rest isn’t just just sleep, Though”

“You’re not at home, remember?” Carlos asked. “That’s why I’m asking.”

J: he chuckles “I know I’m not at home, I’m just saying I can rest when I get home”

“Are you even strong enough to get yourself back at this point?” Carlos asked him.

J: “Probably” he shrugged again “Even if I’m not, I can just text My brother or Boyfriend..”

“Is he on Earth right now?” Carlos asked. “Wait, does your phone actually get service here?”

J: he looked abit confused “My phone doesn’t usually reach hell, But at least Anthony’s usually on earth..”

“So… your brother makes frequent trips here? What for?”

J: “My brother and I have the same job, but that means one of us has to work the long hours while the other stays at our house”

“What’s your job? If you don’t mind me asking…”

J: he glanced away “I.. Collect contracts..”

“Contracts? Like… souls?”

J: he rubs the back of his neck “No one can pick their job in hell..”

“That’s… bizarre, to me. To say the least.”
