“Well… how does getting a bite at the Third Rail sound?” Carlos suggested. “I wonder if we could get a table over close to Magnolia’s stage, or maybe just spend time in the VIP room.” Carlos then smirked slightly at Hancock. “That’s not to say that I’m going to be drinking, however. If I did, then things would get boring pretty quickly.”

image

“Darlin’, we can get a table wherever we want, I own the place, remember?” He teased lightly. “That sounds wonderful. You know how much I enjoy listenin’ to her sing, heh, though it doesn’t matter much what we’re doin’ so long as I get to spend time with you.”

Carlos snorted softly. “Kinda takes away the illusion of me treating you when you say things like that, babe,” Carlos teased him with a grin. “But, uh, yeah… I think a table by the stage sounds great.” Carlos loved Magnolia’s singing too. It reminded him that even though the world supposedly ended, people were still creating new things. It just always put him in a good mood. It would make his night with Hancock that much better, he thought.

My Fingers Slipped @partyplanningforsuckers The heat only seemed to be packed in at the circus, with the hundreds of citizens that had swarmed like ants and the intense rides that seemed to have a life of their own. The smell of sugary cotton candy and popcorn was enough to lure anyone who had just come from a days work, the circus was the place to be. With a circle of sand and tigers, along with swinging trapeze and double jointed dancers, the main stage was selling ticket for such a view.

Carlos hadn’t been to a circus in years – not since he was little. But there had been a raffle at work and Carlos had won a coupon for a free ticket. He kinda hoped that his brother and/or his dad were in town so he could invite them to go with him.

Carlos made his way to the ticket office that was set up, standing in the line with his coupon as he looked at everything around him. Some things were different than what he remembered or imagined a circus to be like, but not everything could be a dated cliche trope he supposed.

Once at the ticket office he smiled and offered the coupon. “Hey… this any good?” he asked in a joking manner.

@partyplanningforsuckers

“Blood
letting?” He asked softly before shaking his head and taking in a slow
breath between his fangs, “Ah- thank you really, I’m quite fine..
Actually, I’m getting my rush of energy right now- I’m excited and
pumped up, but I don’t know why it happens.”

“Well, you’re probably receiving some nutrients that your body needs,” Lore  said. “Like eating a meal or drinking water can help you feel more alert immediately after consumption.”

He couldn’t help but feel the blush on his cheeks as they went on about science, how fascinating and smart they must be. “Oh- wow.. well, I certainly do feel alert.. You’re very smart you know, I’m sure you knew.”

Lore just grinned. “Thanks! That’s very nice of you to say!” they said.

Skip turned his head from them and smiled softly, hiding his face amongst his hair as he felt his head dizzy. “Of course.. h-hey- wait.. Where’s Carlos?”

Lore blinked at him. “Oh – he’s probably still with the rocks,” they said. “I’m sure he’ll be back soon. In fact, it should be any minute now.”

At that the vampire gave a nod, sitting himself back down into the chair as he nudged the bottle of water towards Lore. “Drink up man, you.. you probably need it a whole lot. I wouldn’t suggest you go on without water,”

Lore looked at the water, but grinned and took it. “Thanks! You’re right – I should have a head start on replenishing my blood supply!” They opened the water with one hand and took a big, hearty gulp from the bottle.

Skip glanced away from the other scientist, not exactly preferring to watch them drink a while bottle of water like that. He shifted his arms onto the table as he sighed in waiting, beginning to lose his patience.

Lore finally put the water down with a sigh. They looked over at Skip. “Do you want to wait in the main lab? I’ll be fine here, I promise.”

They paused as they heard the main door to the lab open, and they grinned. “That must be him.”

As he approached one of the locations of a lightning strike however he paused, seeing a person on the ground. Oh no – did it strike someone?

Carlos hurried over and dropped his equipment to the side to start inspecting the body for life.

“He-hello? Hello, can you hear me? Sir?”

J: there was a moments pause before he answered “Yeah come in..!”

Carlos pushed open the door and smiled. “Hey there. How you doing?”

J: he chuckled softly “I don’t know about other demons, But My broken
brain just won’t let Me sleep most nights.. Then again, I think I had
this before I died, So it might not be involved with demons…”

“Ah… so you have insomnia then,” Carlos said. “At least, that’s what it sounds like to me. “

J: he tilted his head slightly “Insomnia? I think I’ve read about that before..”

“Oh, you have? That’s good. Hey, maybe do you want to mention it to the doctors? They can help you sleep tonight if you ask nicely, I think.”

J: he shrgus “I prefer to sit awake and rethink everything I’ve ever done/Hate Myself, Really saves time during the day”

Carlos frowned at that. “That doesn’t sound like a good use of your time,” he said softly. But he didn’t speak about it further – it was probably a sensitive subject.

J: he started to say something before the nurse walked in

Nurse: “Sir, Visiting hours are over”

J: “Damn.. Guess we can talk more later”

Carlos nodded with a smile. “Sure,” he said, and he stood up from his chair. He offered Jon a hand to shake. “I’ll see you in the morning, alright?”

J: he smiled as he shook the others hand “I’ll be looking forward to it, But what time do You think ?”

“When visiting hours open again,” Carlos said. “9… 9.30. I’ll be here.”

J: “I’ll see You then” he curled his tail around his waist

Nurse: he silently offered to escort Carlos out

Carlos smiled at Jon. “See you,” he said as he walked out with the nurse.

J: he looked at the ceiling, trying to relax

The next morning Carlos was back. This time with his car (he’d had to call a cab to leave the hospital). He was waiting for the hour to turn so that he could go see Jon and help him leave.

J: he was more then ready to leave, sitting on the edge of his bed drumming his fingers as he waited “Just a few more minutes then we’ll get out of here..” he sighed softly

Visiting hours were finally open and Carlos beelined straight for Jon’s room. He knocked once he got to the door. “Hey! It’s me, Carlos.”

A Holiday Surprise (closed w/ selfmedicatingmayor)

Carlos smiled at Hancock. He wished he had a bigger coat, but the labcoat was not meant to be used for warmth at all, and Carlos’ sweater was only built for one person. He cuddled back against Hancock as best as he could – at least it was a short walk back to the Statehouse.

“I’d like to look and see if we have milk too,” Carlos said. “If that’s okay.”

Now… back to chocolate… “Chocolate… it has like a sort of weird, rich flavor to it,” he started to explain. “I don’t know how to describe it… it felt kind of like warm milk when you chewed it because it had a low melting point and would spread all over your tastebuds. Kind of like ice cream, but not exactly the same.” Carlos laughed. “Gosh, I really don’t know how to make that make sense… but the science behind it is that chocolate can help improve blood flow and oxygen availability when you breathe. It just… feels really good to eat.”

“We can always pick up some more on the way home if you’d like.” He offered with a smile and pecked him lightly on the cheek. As he listened, only a little of what Carlos told him, clearly their experiences hadn’t been at all the same, because he was only able to relate to bits and pieces.

“I’ve….. actually never had ice cream before. That does sound good though, I wish I could try it. Maybe we’ll get lucky and find some someday, huh? Won’t be the same as whatever you had in your vault but should still be good, right?”

Oh shit, that’s right. Damn…

“Um, the thing with ice cream, Hancock, is that it’s frozen. It’s literally frozen milk and cream ingredients. And if we did find a container of it, it’d probably have not only melted but spoiled and petrified. I guess there’s a possibility that dehydrated ice cream still exists. It tastes the same, just drier. But if there was any to be had, I would assume that it would have been one of the first things to go.”

Carlos wished more than anything in that moment to have somehow rationed even a single piece of chocolate or a small package of dehydrated ice cream just to share it with Hancock – share as in give it to him since he had never tasted any of it before. But Carlos knew how ridiculous that thought was and tried to shake it away.
