“I don’t know…
maybe…. never looked. We’re so rare it’s… we’re not even catalogued as
fully a intelligent people… then again not all of us can talk…”… I’m
sorry Carlos…”

“No – No, don’t be,” Carlos told him. “We just… clearly neither of us knew. Just…” Carlos sighed. “There’s got to be someone. Someone in the entire galaxy – a historian or an anthropologist or a doctor or something – who knows what to do.”

“Yeah… I’ll go back to my warbird in the forest make a few calls. See if anyone out there has some kind of… idea….” looks at him then down ears dropping at the rejection.

Carlos reached and took Yondu’s face in his hands. “Yondu – please understand me when I say this – No, it’s not a good idea for us to try to make this work. But that doesn’t mean that I don’t care a lot about you. I do. And I want you to be safe and healthy. Whatever I can do to help you toward that, I’m willing to do it! Okay? I’m still your friend.”

Yondu looks at him with a crushed look and his ears droop down. “So…. there’s no chance? None? Friend….. yeah…. friend……….friend.” Why did this hurt so much.

That look Yondu was giving him broke Carlos’ heart. “Yondu… this wouldn’t work out, no matter how much I want it to. I’m not meant for space. I survived in it, yeah, and you were a great help, but… I’m just not meant to leave my solar system.”

This was really hard for Carlos to tell him. Carlos really didn’t want to talk about it anymore… he wished Yondu could understand so Carlos didn’t have to keep saying it.

Yondus pointy ears dropped lower and he actually gave out a rather surprising low whine sound. He just nods then shakes his head closing his eyes and wiggles his ears before looking back up eyes hardened. He’d been hurt before this was fine he could live. “Ok.”

Carlos wanted to hug him. To tell him that everything was going to be fine, but… he didn’t think they were ready for that. Yondu didn’t need to be confused even more.

“If… if there’s anything I can do for you… just let me know,” Carlos said to the other. “I’m still your friend… I promise.”

Yondu just nods and motions to the door as he walks out and then goes back to helping fix dinner.

Peter blinks looking from Yondu to carlos knowing something happened.

Carlos didn’t feel good at all anymore. Despite his attempts at assuring Yondu, Carlos felt like he only hurt him. Not only that, but Yondu mentioned biology so now Carlos was worried for his health. There had to be someone in the galaxy who could help him figure it out… but Carlos hadn’t the slightest clue of where to start.

Maybe this hadn’t been a good idea… God, he didn’t even know anymore.

Kraglin looked to Peter. He himself wasn’t going to ask about what was going on between the adults in their lives, but if Peter was… Kraglin would be interested in what the younger terran would dig up.

Dinner went on without a hitch and now everyone was sitting around digesting. Yondu was dozing seeming to be in a pleased food coma as were the rest of his crew.

Carlos was helping his dad clean up without much word. Edwardo wanted to talk to Carlos and see what was bothering him, but with company over he didn’t feel like it would be right.

Mikey had a hand-held game to show Peter. “Hey, Petey – this is what kids your age play on Earth. It’s called a Switch.”

“Don’t worry I keep a eye on him. He’ll be ok. Sad but ok.”

“Just keep assuring him that I’m okay that I’m thinking about him,” Carlos said. “That’s… I guess that’s all we can do, really. If he’d even understand it…”

“I got it covered. Yourbaby space whale is well taken care of. No worries.” Smiles at him. “Some of the females looked a bit big.might be heavy with young.”

“Oh? Fun,” Carlos said with a smile.

Yondu smiles at him. “Yeah…. would be….” Sighs and goes back to helping Eduardo with the food. “You’d love to see them all……. how the new horns are so tiny…..” sighs.

“Yeah… I would,” Carlos agreed softly.

But he couldn’t go back to space again. He belonged on Earth. He cleared his throat and went to count out dishes for dinner. It’d still be a little bit, but he was getting depressed, and so he needed to occupy himself.

Yondu sighs then goes over to him and drags him off. “Pete go help Eduardo finish. Carlos and I need to talk.” Peter blinks and nods heading to the kitchen.

Yondu drags Carlos up to his room and closes the door then Yanks him into a deep kiss.

Carlos yelped in shock and clung to Yondu’s jacket. He was confused – what the hell was going on??

Carlos pushed Yondu back, just enough so that they could see each other. “Yondu, what are you doing??”

Yondu blinks and then pulls away ears drooping. “Shit I… I don’t know what came over me. I…. I’m sorry I…..I just….”

Carlos took a deep breath, trying to calm his speeding heart. “Yondu, we… we can’t be doing this,” he said slowly and carefully. “We… we’re just going to make ourselves upset and when you go back to space we’ll just… we’ll be hurting again.” Carlos frowned at the other and took his hand. “Yondu – I’m not mad. I just… I was shocked and… well, we need to stop this thing before we get hurt worse.” It felt like a horrible thing to say, but what else could Carlos say? It wouldn’t be good for them to torture themselves like this.

Flinches back. “To late for that….. my …senses see you as my mate. My whole body is screaming it. It’s driving me insane. Because the pill knows we’re not mates and it’s like I’m burning to death and freezing to death at the same time.”

Carlos stared at Yondu. “This… you mean your biology is affecting this?” he asked. “There… Yondu, I had no idea! There’s got to be something we can do!”

“I don’t know…. I was just s pouchling when I was torn from my parents… all I know is we mate for life. But other then that…….”

“Is there anybody who knows about Centaurian biology?” Carlos asked. “Someone who can help us sort you out? Yondu, if I had known I wouldn’t have let this happen…”
