Peter
slides into the car and slides to the middle seat and snuggles back up
against Kraglin and to relax as they head back. He took kraglins hand on
his and starts rubbing along his palm and wrist knowing it calmed and
relaxed him.

Kraglin just sat there, making low growling-type noises. It was crazy – the bloated feeling he had seemed to be getting better now. Just a bit at least.

Carlos drove them home, still feeling kind of jittery and paranoid. They’d made a bit of a scene – did that mean someone was going to come after them? God, he hoped not. Or if someone was, they come after Yondu and the boys left. Can’t confront about aliens with no aliens around…

Peter snuggles him continuing his rubbing.

Once back at the house it was to find two new faces. Half but and Tullk were there the excuse was halfnut wanted to collect some wild herbs from earth to see if he could make something from it and why not visit there captain and other crew while they were at it.

Coming in and seeing Tullk talking and laughing with his dad like the were old friends… Carlos’ first thoughts were to the ship. “Who the hell is watching the ship?” he asked.

Tullk just shrugged. “Ship’s in the night cycle. Yer planet’s a bit on the fast side of standard. Anyway – the night crew’s got the ship and everyone else is sleepin’.”

“Ya got permission from Yondu ‘fore comin’ down, right?” Kraglin asked him.

Half was over near the table scanning some of the herbs and spices he’d found in the garden. “O..of c.co…course we did. W..we a..al always listed to the c..captain..” he frowns holding up a green leaf of some kind. “Hmmmm… this is listed as…a ..a n.nar ..narcotic…”

Edwardo looked. “Oh, that looks like hemp. People use it for oils and to make paper…. though I’m not sure where you found that…”

Carlos frowned at it. “Did that come from the forest?”

Half but nods. “Just.. s… south of. Y..you garden…. I. F.. f.. found some. T..tasty mushrooms too.” Looks over at Tullk and smiles at him.

Yondu hums. “Half I told ya not to wander past the garden….”

Half frowns. “S..Sorry I.. just saw a.. interesting p..plant…”

“It’s not dangerous,” Carlos told him. “Just… don’t leave any of it here. Make sure to take it with you when you go back to the ship. It’s kind of illegal here to have more than an ounce or so.”

“Sounds like I may have to… ‘stumble’ upon it myself later,” Mr Ramon said with a frown. “After you boys are back in space of course… we don’t want the police asking you all questions.”

Half finished and stores the plants before siding up against Tullk. “I know there have to be more herbs and spices …. but this is what I have..”

Tullk nodded with a smile, reaching around to rub at his shoulder. “I think that’ll keep ya busy fer a while, huh Jamie? Make sure you keep all that green ‘hemp’ stuff with you until we get to the ship.”

Half smiles and nods leaning against him and shivers. “Cold…..”

Peter blinks then grabs the bag with the blanket and brings it over. “I… got it for you…. it’s a electric blanket…. will keep you warm….”

Half blinks and takes it looking it over. “I…. thank you petey….”

Tullk lifted an eyebrow at the gift, but he gave Peter a grin. He reached up and rubbed the boy’s head. “Yer’a good ‘un, Pete. The Captain did right by you.”

Peter smiles at the pat and praise. “I gotta take care of my family you know.”

Half pulls the planner from the packaging and burritos himself in it.

“It should be easy to rig up something to give it power,” Carlos told Tullk. “There’s a physical plug on it, and if you just make a rechargeable battery pack to plug into it then you should be good to go.”

Tullk nodded. “Sounds good,” he said, and Carlos nodded before carrying the rest of their groceries into the kitchen.

Peter plugs it in and flips it on half purring as it warms up and he burrows. “Waaaarrrmmmm…..”

Peter smiles.

Yondu chuckles following carlos and nuzzles him.

Carlos blinked when Yondu came up behind him. He looked back and smiled slightly. “Hey, big guy,” he said. He reached into a bag and pulled out a small bag of Cheetos. “Look at what I got.”

“Uhhhhhh
you know something….. I dunno….. I honestly have no clue where they
come from… where ever they come from it’s covered in these things…
because these things don’t die until you eat them…”

Peter keeps crying calling for his mother curling around himself in a tight ball. “I want my momma… I want her back!”

“Oh really? I wonder if Carlos has had a chance to study them. He doesn’t usually work with animals, but I’m very curious…”

Carlos quickly got in to send the woman away. “I’m so sorry – he’s been having a bad day. We’ve got him now though, we’ll take care of him.”

Mikey positioned himself in front of Kraglin and Peter to deter people from stopping and looking.

Kraglin scooted closer to Peter and put an arm around his shoulder. “Peter… come on, Petey… Look at me. I’m right here, buddy.”

Peter shakes his head as he continues to sob. “I want to go home……. I don’t want to be a ravager anymore. I want to go home…. to grandpa… grandma…… to….. to……. Momma……. home to momma….”

“She ain’t here, Pete,” Kraglin told him softly. “She’s gone. It’s just me, Kraglin. And Yondu… Yondu’s back at the house, remember?”

Sniffs and lets out a heart wrenching sob. “I WANT TO GO HOME!!!!!” Flies into a full out panic attack and emotional break down screaming into his knees and pulling at his hair while hyperventilating.

Kraglin grabbed Peter’s wrists and tried to yank them away from his hair. He put his arms around Pete’s shoulders and hugged him tightly, trying to act as a buffer between Peter and his own hands.

“We should get him in the car and back home,” Carlos said. “I… Jesus, I had no idea it could get this bad.”

“Does this happen often?” Mikey asked Carlos, trying not to sound alarmed.

“Not very, but we’re on Earth now so this is a huge change in circumstances…*

Peter panting hard and fast fingers clenching into the back of kraglins coat whole body shaking moments from completely shattering and losing himself.

Kraglin just held him, shushing gently and rocking him a bit. “M’here, Pete… Krags is here…”

“Mikey, can you run and buy a bag of Cheetos?” Carlos asked.

“Why?” asked Mikey.

“It’s familiar – it might help ground him.”

Mikey nodded and quickly sprinted away.

Pressed closer to him almost curling into a ball on his lap clutching not letting go. “Momma……..”

Kraglin rubbed Peter’s back. “She’s not here… It’s just me and Carlos.”

“Take deep breaths, Petey,” Carlos cooed gently, moving to kneel beside the pair as well.

Peter after a bit settled down but he was completely quiet severely subdued, no life or energy in him. A empty shell of his normal self.

Mikey finally came back with a small bag of Cheetos. “Thanks, Mikey,” Carlos said, grabbing the bag. He opened it and held the bag under Peter’s nose. “Peter… what does that smell like, Peter?”

Kraglin wrinkled his nose and glanced at the bag in confusion. “How in the… what are those?”

“Cheetos,” Carlos explained. “Very similar to Beasties, actually.”

Peter blinks at the smell and to him they smelled exactly like beasties and sniffs looking in the bag before looking at carlos not eating them because he wanted to keep hold of Kraglin. “Beasties…….. just…like….. Cheetos…….. dad loves Beasties…….”

“Yeah, he does,” Carlos said. He took out a Cheeto and held it up for Peter to eat. “Here you go, buddy. Have a bite.” Carlos started to think about how they were going to get Peter in the car and back to the house. Maybe the shopping trip hadn’t been a good idea…

Peter takes a bite of the Cheeto and just snuggles against Kraglin. “Sorry…… I ruined the trip………-sniffs- like always….”

“Shush… it’s okay, Pete,” Kraglin said. “You just need a minute. Let’s go outside to the vehicle and just sit… it’s got a music-player in it. None of this slow-ass stuff the store’s playin’.”

“And the snacks might help you out,” Carlos said, shaking the bag a bit. “We’ll get more, so you can eat as much as you want. Don’t worry about it.”

Peter nods sniffing as he stands one hand clutching the bag the other white knuckled on kraglins jacket as they head to the car. “She looked just like mom…….. I … I thought it…… was her….”

Kraglin put an arm around Peter as they headed out, Carlos and Mikey leading the way back to the car. Carlos glanced back at Peter, concerned.

“It’s okay, Pete… I know,” Kraglin said softly.

Once back in the car peter curls up on kraglins lap pressing his face to his chest and munches on the Cheetos slowly.

Carlos turned to the oldies music station, as it was closer to what Peter was familiar with. Mikey peered over the back of his seat at the two spacemen, watching them.

Kraglin continued to  rub Peter’s back, trying to help calm him down some.

Peter continues to munch them snuggles against him face pressed to his chest.closing his eyes finally calmed down from his panic attack.

“We can run to the Wendy’s and get ourselves some ice cream before we give the store another shot,” Mikey suggested. He glanced at Peter. “Hey, Peter… you’re not lactose intolerant, are you?”

“Lack… toast?” Kraglin asked, frowning at Mikey. “The fuck does ‘lack toast’ mean??”

Peter just smiles and snuggles and hugs him. “Means. You can’t have dairy…… no I’m not…” looks up at Kraglin.

“Oh – neither am I!” Kraglin said. He grinned slightly. He loved cheese! None of the cheese in space had this ‘lactose’ stuff in it, but it was probably just a fancy word for something else. Kraglin couldn’t eat some things, but he was always down for ice cream.

“Sounds like a plan then,” Carlos said. “You want ice cream, Pete?”

Nods.
“They killed a buddy of mine…. virtually dissected him infront of me…
killing him while he screamed then died after removing a few of his
organs…..I would have been next but I was able to escape when they had
some power malfunction…”

Edwardo looked at him, frowning sympathetically. “You have said,” he responded with a careful and calm tone. “I am truly sorry that has happened to you… I can’t even imagine that.”

“But I’ve found terrans who…. are really good people. You and your sons….. I’d like to call you a part of my family.”

Edwardo was a bit surprised by Yondu’s statement. He smiled and gave a soft chuckle. “That’s… I think that’s alright, Yondu. You’ve been good to me and my boys – especially Carlos. He seems to like you and trust you well enough. I think we’d be honored for you to consider us ‘family’. Friendship knows no distance, I believe.”

Yondu nods to him and smiles. “Aside from peter and kraglin and three others on my crew Oblo, Tullk and halfnut.. I don’t have anyone else. So this is nice.”

Mr Ramon nodded. “Right,” he agreed with a smile. “Want to help me start lunch? You can tell me more about what Carlos and you all have been up to.”

“Sure! I’ll even split this bag of the best snack in space. Carlos loves them too. Beastie worms!” Pulls out a a bag that looks suspiciously like a alien version of a Cheetoes bag.

Edwardo just looked at it. “What… what is it exactly?” he asked. “I heard you boys trying to explain it, but I don’t know if I understand…”

Grins and leads him to the kitchen. “Best thing ever. Just… don’t think about what your eating. Just eat it.” Opens the bag and pulls out a wiggling orange worm like thing.

Edwardo stared.”Carlos has been eating those?” he asked. “I’m surprised – usually he’s not very adventurous when trying new things.” He reached out and took the worm, examining it curiously.

The worm was wiggling around and actually tries to crawl around on his fingers leaving orange dust in its wake.

“Well in space he had to adapt. No terran like food out there really. I had to honestly convince him to eat one. Then he liked them. So we would pass a bag around at times.”

Edwardo hummed and nodded. He closed his hand around the worm to keep it from escaping. “You know, it’s arguable that it’s cruel to let them remain alive as you eat them. How do they stay alive in the package anyhow?”

“I honestly have no clue….. all I know is they are fresh and delicious.” Pulls one out then knocks it back with a crunch then swallows. “Carlos wanted to keepnsome as pets…. be interesting…. harvest them as unlimited source of beastie worms. Snacks forever.”

Edwardo looked at the trail of seasoning the worm left. “In theory… but you’d have to find out the recipe for the seasoning.” He smiled slightly. He sniffed at the seasoning with a hum. “It smells cheesy.” He opened his hand again and, with the other hand, picked up the worm between two fingers. “It’s sort of cute… I can see why Little Carlos wanted to try keeping one.”

Yondu chuckles. “Cute and delicious. Carlos at first thought it was cruel to eat them alive too but… if you kill them or dry them or something other then fresh they taste nasty….”

“Hm… maybe there’s a decomposition process that happens when they die.” He then smiled at Yondu again. “This wouldn’t be my first rodeo, eating a live animal. I’ve had the opportunity to have live octopus before.”

“Live oconopooos? What the hell is that?” Sets the bag down so the worms couldn’t wiggle out as Eduardo played with his food. “Hope the boys have fun.”

Peter watches as buildings go by in the car. “Been so long since being here….. it’s so strange….. almost like I don’t belong here.”

“Oh… um… it has a soft, round bulbous main body, and has eight tentacles that come out of the bottom of it like a skirt. It lives in the water. It’s really good with some spicy sauce, though you have to chew quite a bit to make sure to get it down safely.” Edwardo looked at the worm again. “I’m sure the boys are fine… It’s just a trip to the supermarket, after all.”

“I can’t believe I still remember how to drive,” Carlos said. “It just feels like it’s been so long… And I have to pay so much attention to the road.”

“You’re going the speed limit, so I think you’re fine,” Mikey reassured his brother with a grin.

Yondu blinks at the Discription. “Huh….. we have something like that. Don’t eat it though. Not unless you like the idea of melting from the inside out. Anyway. So what are we having for lunch? And you gonna eat the worm or keep it for a pet? Hehe.”

Nice they pull up peter couldn’t stop looking around and wandering off a bit curious about the daily lives of his species.

Mr Ramon looked at Yondu, and then grinned. He quickly popped it into his mouth and crunched down on it. There was a burst of flavor and he let out a pleasantly surprised hum. “Hm! Hmm!”

Kraglin kept close to Carlos and his brother. Yeah, he was curious too – looking around at everything. Watchers, it was all so…. alien. These people came in so many different shapes and sizes, it could probably rival the variety of Knowhere.

He watched Peter trying to wander and let out a low growl. “’Ey, Pete! Don’t get lost, you little shit!” A woman glanced at him in confusion and Kraglin just huffed at her. What did he care that she couldn’t understand him?

Yondu grins at him. “Exactly.” Hands him a few more.

Peter jumps and comes back falling in line next to him. “Sorry…… just…. there’s a lot here and……..” looks down and around at all the people just like him.”

Edwardo accepted a few more of the treats. But he doesn’t stuff all of them in his mouth – he just picked one up and closed his hand around the rest. “These are very good. They taste just like junk food here – how easy is it to get these in space? I mean, what’s the price?”

Carlos turned his head, using his hand to turn part of his hoodie too to look at Peter. “Hey, Peter, do we need you to hold onto the cart?” he joked. But really, who was Carlos to talk? He couldn’t stop looking around, even though it might give other people an easier chance to recognize him. He just… he couldn’t believe how much he missed the supermarket, of all places.

“Ehhh beastie worms are about 200 credits a bag…. 400 credits a can…. so yeah……. credits so that’s uhhhhh 2 or 4 of your coin…..I guess…”

Peter Ducks his head. “No… no im good…. sorry…..” looks around again then blinks spotting a lady with reddish blond hair and his eyes go wide. “Momma….”

“Huh – so very easy to get, like some of our junkfood here. What sort of species eats them?”

Kraglin glanced over at Peter and frowned. He went over to grab his jacket and pull him along. “C’mon, Pete…”

Yondu nods and thinks. “Just about every species does…. only those that think it’s low for them to eat worms of sorts don’t. Stuck ups you know.”

Yanks away and runs to where he saw the woman and looks around in panic then spots her headfing out and runs after. “Momma….. no… don’t go….” runs out of the market looking around then runs over seeing her near a car and rushes over and touches her shoulder. “Momma…?” She blinks turning around. “W..who are you? What do you want? Get away or I’ll call the police!” Peter swallows seeing it wasn’t her and backs up walking back and slides against the wall and pulls his knees up and cries.

“Or vegetarians, I imagine,” Edwardo said. He smiled. “Where did they originate?” he asked, eating another.

Kraglin was startled when Peter pulled out of his grip and ran off.

“Shit- PETE!” He exclaimed and ran after him.

Carlos and Mikey were surprised, but they quickly abandoned the cart and followed the two ravagers.

Kraglin heard the woman yelling and he spotted Peter sitting against the wall. “Pete!” He hurried over and dropped right next to the younger man. “Pete, Pete! Look at me! Look at me, Petey! It’s me – It’s Krags.”
