eats were still dropped down and looks between them all feeling a bit
put on the spot. “I…… I….. Yes…. I…. can..” he glanced at mr.ramon at
times then looked away wishing he wasn’t under the scrutinizing look.

Carlos just frowned at him. “Are… are you saying that just
because you think It’ll make me happy?” he asked softly.

Glances between him and the elder terran. “No. And I hate that sad look on your face… or when your angry at me…… I like it when you smile at me.”

“If… you boys need some time to talk it out, why don’t you
get Carlos’ things up to his room? Mikey and I will start on dinner.” Mr Ramon
smiled at the two of them.

Carlos blinked at his
father. He then turned to look at Yondu to see what he thought about it.

Yondu
offered a smile back but it felt fake. “Yeah that sounds good…thank
you. I shouldn’t complain about anything served and free.”

Mr Ramon considered Yondu for a moment. “We… could always do
it another day,” he said. “If you’d rather go back to your… ship and take a
breather.”

“I made a promise…… if I go back to my ship… we’ll…. it may be a long time before I’m seen again…..”

Carlos’ shoulders started to slump. Yondu really didn’t want to be here. Carlos
thought he had appealed to his sentimentality, but…  he was just staying to make Carlos happy,
wasn’t he? Well… Carlos wasn’t happy.
Especially not since Yondu was being this way.

“You really hate it here, don’t you?” Carlos asked him softly.
“I’m sorry… I thought you would have wanted to spend more time with me. But if
that’s not the case, then… I’m not going to make you stay here, Yondu.”

Yondu looks at him and his ears droop. “You do t get it….. I want to spend forever with you. But I can’t I can’t and it hurts. How can I put my care free smile on my face when I can’t be happy knowing what’s about to end….. even if I have a few more days……. it will end…… so you know I was rising you hating me and just keeping you… never to bring you to terra. But …. you were so good to me and the boys…… I couldn’t do that to you….I want to be here but I just…..I can’t smile and be happy about losing you….”

Mikey seemed to bristle a bit at the idea that Yondu wouldn’t
have brought Carlos back, but Mr Ramon remained completely silent and
calm-looking, a slight frown on his face as he just watched Yondu and Carlos.

“You can’t even be happy for… just the bit more time we
could spend together?” Carlos asked him. “For us to still be friends and still
talk on the communicator? Or… anything?”

Yondu
sighs looking to him. “There’s a problem with that……. I don’t want to
just be friends….. and being around you will only…. rub it in my face
that I can’t have you. I can’t deal with that. It… it hurts to much….
feels like my throat and chest are closing up with ice.”

“That’s why I said stay around a couple days,” Carlos said
told him. “Maybe… with me being planet-side we can let things settle a bit. I still want you to have dinner with my
family… and I still want to go
shopping with Kraglin or Peter and get some treats for the crew. I just…
please, Yondu.” Carlos didn’t want to let go of him completely – he’d rather
not let go of him at all but he’d
take whatever he could get!

Yondu sighs. “Your killing me carlos. I can’t say no to you or deny you anything.” Leans over and grabs him holding on and nuzzles against his neck before standing back up and heads back inside.

Carlos wanted to sigh in relief. He went with Yondu, walking close so that their arms brushed together.

“Hey guys – welcome back,” Mikey greeted them with a smile – he had been waiting just outside of the living room for them. He turned around and rolled back to his place.

“I was thinking about dinner, Yondu,” Mr Ramon said. “If you were inclined to stay… how do you feel about beans and ground meat?” He offered the blue man a smile.

Yondu
swallows. Here it came. Never failed. “Your right. The deal was bring
him home…… not… get attached……… and even if I wasn’t… fearful of earth….
I can’t stay….. I have…. a job……so… I… I could come around terran
space…. maybe every few months……. or so…..”

Carlos looked at Yondu, concerned. “Hey – hey, it wasn’t all
you. J-just so you know. I humored you and let it develop… it – it was probably
a mistake, since we… we got somewhat emotional. But I don’t really regret it,
Yondu. I had fun – so much fun!”

Yondu looks at him and nods. “Me too. Ummm…. sorry mr.Ramon… but I… I’ll skip dinner sorry. I ….. inshoukd get back. I’m sure it would have been wonderful but…. I just have to go.” Stands and pulls up his hood and quickly walks out going to the motorcycle and gets on it starting it up. He had to get out of here. He couldn’t stay.

“What?” Carlos started to freak out when Yondu got up.
Carlos jumped up and hurried after him. “Yondu – Yondu, wait!” He called. He
grabbed the captain’s arm sleeve and held on. “Yondu, wait – don’t leave,”
Carlos asked him. “Just… stay in orbit for a couple of days… please?”

Yondu sighs. “Carlos…. were fooling ourselves. Your a terran… I’m a.. alien….you got family here…I can’t stay…… it was fun…. and if we’re different and we weren’t who we are maybe it would work but……..I was kidding myself that this would work. I’m a fool idiot.”

“Well, so was I,” Carlos said. “I have a few PHDs, so I’m
not completely dumb. I knew this
probably wouldn’t work – but I went for it anyway. Because you were so kind and
we were having fun – I meant what I said when I said I didn’t regret it. I…
please, Yondu, I don’t want you to just leave when we can still be friends and
part on better terms… please?”

Yondu, and what came with him, was at least the good thing that happened to Carlos out
in space. He didn’t want to just try to forget about it and move on, he really
didn’t.
