Nods and reaches up and caresses his cheek lightly then kisses his head before heading off towards tullk and halfnuts quarters.

Jamie Coughs hard and wet and moans painfully his whole body hurt his head throbbing.

Tullk was nearby, brewing up some tea for the younger
Ravager to try to drink. “Hang on a second, lad… I got something for you, just
wait.”

***

Carlos followed after Yondu, trying to get all his yawning
out before they popped in to check on the sick ravager.

Jamie whimpers looking at him. “Tullk………. nothings working……. the void…. got me good……. you know what bacteria is out there……. hurts so much….”

Tullk got some tea into a cup and carried it to the bed. He
climbed in beside the other Ravager so he had something to lean against as he
drank. “Come up here, boy – drink,” he said, reaching to gently coax the other
against his side. He offered him the tea. “We’ll get this figured out. You’ll
be alright soon.”

Jamie sips the tea weakly then snuggles back against him groaning and shivering. “Why are… you taking care of me Tullk? You can’t possibly like me all weak and… pathetic…” Coughs.

“You’re not weak, you’re just sick,” the older man huffed. “Don’t
worry yourself. Just work on getting better – you’re driving me more nuts than
you do when you’re healthy.”

Jamie snuggles close clutching the front of his shirt. “Love you too… Tullk….” Nuzzles and kisses his chest.

Tullk just rubbed the younger’s shoulder, trying to help
warm him up a bit. Truth be told, he was very worried. People weren’t usually sick
for this long.

There was a hesitant knock on the door and Tullk made a
slightly annoyed groaning sound. “Come in,” he said aloud, not bothering to
move from the bed.

“Yeah…
and your staying away from them…. I have others I hate I can fling to
the void…. half should not have been there…… could have been killed…”

Carlos looked at Yondu, a little confused. “But… that’s what
you brought me on the ship for. Engineering and maitenence… right? That’s what
I do.” Though thinking about being in space… in the void… if he had his music
playing in the space suit and he didn’t look out, he supposed he’d be alright.

“….. only if you have a partner or me there… just in case…… and only someone from my inner circle..”

A partner would be a good idea, now that Carlos thought
about it. Someone to help distract from the utter nothingness around them. “I…
would actually welcome that,” Carlos said. “Yeah. Sure – train me on the space
suits and we can see what we can do about the hull.” He offered Yondu a little
smile, that he hoped was encouraging.

This was honestly a scary-as-shit idea, but it was something
that needed to be done – preferably by someone who knew engineering, like him.

“Aliright. Over the course of the next few weeks I’ll teach ya.”

Over those weeks they had been to dozens of planets and stations. Each one a little date yo du would take Carlos on. The crew was smaller after a large purge after another attempt from a group of crew members.

Half but was deathly ill. The void has done his damage and his body needed to heal.

Carlos thought he might be getting close to being ready to
fix the hull. He’d been going over schematics of the area that needed fixing
and thought he knew what was needed.

However, Carlos didn’t really sleep very well. Trying to
sleep in a shared room was sort of like his first weeks in space – he just
couldn’t do it. He was trying not to let it show though.

“How’s Half-nut doing?” Carlos asked Yondu one day at
breakfast. Kraglin just looked over at him, but didn’t say anything as he
continued to eat.

“Getting worse… getting better…. back and forth…. tullks been taking care of him night and day. We all know this could be a losing battle….”

Carlos frowned at that. “Damn… I’m sorry,” he said softly.

“What’re you sorry for?” Kraglin asked.

Carlos just frowned. “For… asking, I suppose.”

“Naaa.. shows you care. Nothing wrong with asking.” Smiles. “I was on my way to deliver more meds to them. Want to come along?”

Carlos looked to Yondu and nodded. “Yeah, uh… sure,” he said. He suddenly yawned and reached up to rub the wetness from his eyes. He made a mental note to ask the medic for something to help him keep awake – he planned on asking Yondu if they could go check out the hull that day.

Yondu nods to Tullk going over to the cook to get some food for his boys then walks by patting half’s head.

Carlos followed Yondu closely. He just gave the two Ravagers
a nod as he passed. He picked up one of the trays placed on the counter for
Kraglin and Peter and just waited to follow Yondu’s lead.

Yondu headed off Carlos following just as half went and burrowed under tullks shirt for warmth.

Carlos made a mental note to ask about Half-nut later. They made
it out of the mess hall into the corridor back toward Yondu’s quarters.

“How often do people get sick here?” Carlos asked YOndu
suddenly. “Is it just on occasion like any other workplace?”

“We’re all pretty hardy from sick… lots of vaccines and such…. but the void…. well that’s something you can’t fight….”

Carlos nodded, understanding. It would probably take Half-nut
a while to get back to work.

“How about Peter?” he asked. “How well does he do here?
Sickness-wise.”

“Been here since he was a kid… so he does well. Still get these terrian bouts of colds but space is a bit chilly at times.”

Carlos hummed, nodding. “Okay,” he said softly, mind still
thinking about it. “I suppose I might be alright… if everyone else is
vaccinated and Peter does alright…”

Nods. “Of course you will. And if you catch sick… we’ll. I’ll bundle ya up and make ya rest with some soup.”

Carlos resisted the urge to chuckle. He looked at Yondu,
smiling slightly. “I… thanks. I’ll try not to get sick though, all the same.
Those engines are fixed now, but… it sounds like there’s some other places that
need to get patched up, too.”
