“Yeah.
He likes chocolate…. he likes.. blankets. Movies….. says hisfavorite
candy on terra was a hard strawberry candy with a gooey center of
strawberry…. we have similar here in space.”

“Oh, Grandma Candy?” Carlos asked. “Yeah… unfortunately I
didn’t bring any of that with me. Do you have the space counterpart someplace?
To give Peter?”

“Yeah. Sort of. He says it tastes just like it. It’s luci fruit candy.”

Carlos nodded. “Let’s bring him some of that… and what does
K… Obfonteri like?”

“Just call him Kraglin.. or kraggles…. … he’s a fan of that gooey taffy and meat. Any kind…. dried and flavored. Loves the stuff. Always has a packet….. loves the stuff.”

“Gooey taffy? Oh, sort of like Laffy Taffies. Okay,” Carlos
said. “And jerked meat, huh? That’s… huh. Okay. Want to… bring him some of that
as well? Since we’re bringing Peter something.”

“Yeah. May need to make a stop for those. Could show you other planets or… you know… cities… stations…. ports…”

Carlos looked at him, surprised. “Show me… other planets?”
he asked. “I… I mean, really? I… I haven’t been to other planets… other than the
Xandarian colony on M-Marvin.” He pushed some beans around on his plate. “The ship
carrying me were captured pretty quickly once we reached Xandarian space and…
Nova just dropped me on the nearest colony.”

Smiles and gives a chuckle. “You’re… so damn cute…”

Carlos stared at Yondu, surprised. He looked
down at his food, feeling a little embarrassed. He could feel his ears warm up.
“I… Um, thank you,” he said softly.

“Your welcome.” Smiles at him happily.

Carlos laughed softly, nervous. “Um… you ever
dated anyone before?”

He cringed a bit. Shit – no, you shouldn’t talk about past
relationships with someone you’re dating. At least not right away. Dammit, Carlos!

“No….. actually this is the first time. I have.. slept with… well ….. robots… sex bots….. but I mean….. nothing emotionally tied….”

Carlos blinked at him, perturbed by that. But
he nodded slightly; because of course it made sense. Some folks just needed
that sort of interaction… and better hooker-bots than someone else actually
getting exploited from it.

“I… I see. Yeah, it’s… been a while since I’ve
done anything like this too. I mean… I think I was P… Quill’s age. Nothing
lasting happened, it’s just… the last time I gave it a shot.” He looked at
Yondu. “Um, is there… a reason for that? Culture, or… what? I’m sorry if that’s
a dumb question – I’ve only been on a Xandarian colony so I only know about
Xandarians and those who visit on occasion.”

“What? Me not being with a actual person?….. yes and no…. yesas when we mate it’s for life…. and no it’s because I couldn’t trust anyone like that… not after…. uhhh…… being freed from slavery…”

Carlos nodded, accepting. He supposed he could
understand that. “So… you’re trying with me because… you trust me? Or, you think you can trust me. I mean,
maybe not now, but sometime.”

“In a way…. I guess.. I do trust you I just……I haven’t trusted like I do with you in a long time… other then my boys.”

“Oh, yeah?” Carlos asked. “I… well, I suppose
I should be flattered. Thank you.” He smiled slightly at Yondu. It was a little
strange that Yondu had taken a liking to him. He was a practical nobody, after
all. But… this could prove at the least to be interesting. Hopefully fun.

“Thank you for accepting….. I know I’m….. not really your type……. you know……. but thank you for letting me try to court you.”

Carlos just shrugged slightly, still smiling. “To
be honest, I don’t know if I even have a type. And I wouldn’t be ‘letting’ you
do this if I wasn’t at least a little interested in… whatever this might be. We’ll
just see how it goes, huh?”

“That’s all we can do. Who knows what we may become right? We may even find out we’re not comparable with each other.”

Carlos shrugged again. “That’s what the ‘dating’ part’s for,”
he said. “To… get to know each other.” He scooped up another forkful of beans. “So…
what’s after this? Is this just a lunch date? Or did you have more planned? It’s
okay if you don’t – we still have some work to do with the joint quarters. I’m
just… I’m just wondering.”

“I …. don’t really have any other ideas…..to be honest..so.. back to working on the joint rooms…. “

Carlos nodded, understanding. “Alright,” he said and he
smiled. He put the beans in his mouth and chewed, thinking a bit. “Have the
boys eaten? Should we bring them something?”

“Yeah. We should. Gotta feed the kids hehe. Hey cook. Need two trays for the boys!” The cook nods to him making the trays of food up.

Carlos thinks. “What does Peter like? Chocolate? I just… I wonder
if something sweet would help him feel a little better too.”
