“You. Your imposter has my kid. I need you to get him back.”

“He what!?”

“Don’t worry; I’m already planning on kicking that impostor’s ass after I rescue Max.” Dan reached into his pockets & took out his brass knuckles. “Do you know where they are right now?”

@the-perfect-scientist

“I
don’t think so. I mean, the first time he broke into my apartment he
actually cleaned the place up. Apparently, I have no idea how to keep my
home clean so he decided to tidy up while also looking through my
personal belongings. Either way it was weird as hell.”

“But
the weirdest thing…the weirdest thing that he did to me was dress up as
my cat Mr. Mumbles. I’m not even kidding; the guy put on a cat onesie
that looked eerily similar to my cat just to make it seem like I was on
drugs or something when I told Chris & Elise.”

“What… a fucking weirdo,” Carlos said. “I”m sorry, I just… that is messed up on so many levels, and every moment I’m learning something new about this freak. Somehow, I keep getting surprised. Though this also tells me he might be trying to manipulate Max too like he did you.”

“I honestly wouldn’t doubt that. But what I don’t understand is why he keeps annoying the hell out of me!”

“I mean, sure, he got arrested because the police thought he was me, but that was his fault for being in the wrong place at the wrong time.”

“And now that I found out that he’s a literal demon, that just makes it like ten times worse. It’s a good thing I know how to make holy water, because at this point we’re definitely going to need lots of it.”

“A ‘literal demon’??”

“I should probably have brought my Demon Repelling/Dance Exercise (In More Ways Than One) instruments with me, then. Is he a Christian demon? We could try invoking the name of Christ to help ward him. Maybe some iron brass knuckles or even rings would be great.”

My Fingers Slipped @partyplanningforsuckers The heat only seemed to be packed in at the circus, with the hundreds of citizens that had swarmed like ants and the intense rides that seemed to have a life of their own. The smell of sugary cotton candy and popcorn was enough to lure anyone who had just come from a days work, the circus was the place to be. With a circle of sand and tigers, along with swinging trapeze and double jointed dancers, the main stage was selling ticket for such a view.

Carlos hadn’t been to a circus in years – not since he was little. But there had been a raffle at work and Carlos had won a coupon for a free ticket. He kinda hoped that his brother and/or his dad were in town so he could invite them to go with him.

Carlos made his way to the ticket office that was set up, standing in the line with his coupon as he looked at everything around him. Some things were different than what he remembered or imagined a circus to be like, but not everything could be a dated cliche trope he supposed.

Once at the ticket office he smiled and offered the coupon. “Hey… this any good?” he asked in a joking manner.

@partyplanningforsuckers

It
was hard not to be embarrassed by the question, it was like your dad
asking you if you wanted to talk about the kid you punched in the face
or not. He twisted his fingers into one another, quickly and eagerly
shaking his head. “Ah, no..? There’s nothing. Why?” He asked with
suspicion in his voice, sure that Carlos was looking for something wrong
with him.

“I just wanted to ask… see if there’s something else you wanted to talk about before I… you know, go off into the land of big words and science jargon. Heh…” Carlos laughed, like it was funny, but really he was worried about boring Skip all over again. Nothing hurt your interest in your hobbies quite like someone ignoring everything you have to say about it.

“Maybe I could learn something-“

Probably not.

But he would certainly try to at least distract himself in the confusion of what the scientist was about to spout on about, he seated himself next to Carlos and glanced over the microscope wondering how much it costed. “I bet you’re so much smarter than me I could never even hope to process what you’re saying, so I’m sorry if I.. get jumbled? Science wasn’t my forte in school, sorry.”

Carlos hummed. “I’ll… try to make this as easy to understand as I can,” Carlos said. “There’s just… already so much that’s different with your biology just from this sample. For instance, the structure itself is very different from what I’ve seen before…” Carlos started to describe the shape and attributes of the cells, as compared to ‘normal’ cells. He tried as best as he could to explain things in a way that Skip might understand, but sometimes he couldn’t avoid using a big word or phrase.

“Do you think it’s because I’m a vampire?” Slip blurted suddenly, his eyes wide at his own words as they left his lips, quickly swiping a hand to his mouth in nerves. He was likely to be ridiculed now, or simply removed from the town. He couldn’t take it back no matter how hard he wished, so he waited.

Carlos turned his head up to look at him. “I… don’t know?” he asked. He wasn’t as surprised at the statement as Skip was probably expecting, he realized. But even in the “normal” world, there were oddities that Carlos was aware of. “Um, what sort of vampire are we talking? The cultural vampire, who uses blood drinking or energy sharing as a way to bond with other vampires or thralls?”

His expressions must have been an absolute mess, he was so confused that Carlos wasn’t waving a knife at him or threatening to burn him if he didn’t leave, his mouth grew dry and he shrugged. “The.. normal one?”

In truth, Skip hadn’t known any other vampires or how to be a good one, if that was even a thing. “I need blood to live.. Since I don’t have any.”

Carlos nodded. “Ah,” he said. “Okay… well, that explains it. It’s also better than another idea that I had – the serial killer ‘vampire’. That is… assuming you don’t kill anyone?” Carlos raised an eyebrow, looking at Skip.

“N-no.. What kind of question is that?” He asked nervously as he folded his hands on the table and kicked his feet beneath it, glancing up at Carlos with dark eyes. “I take what I need and they get money.. I used to do things other ways, but it got out of hand..”

“Have you ever heard of Albert Fish?” Carlos asked, but then he shook his head. “Never mind. Like I said, this kind of explains some things. The difference in your physiology compared to what would have been expected and all that. Though I am definitely interested in learning more about you too.”
