“Don’t worry; I’m already planning on kicking that impostor’s ass after I rescue Max.” Dan reached into his pockets & took out his brass knuckles. “Do you know where they are right now?”
“Knowing him, I honestly wouldn’t doubt it. We need to get Max away from that douchebag as soon as possible.”
“I
swear to God if he tries anything I’m going to set him on fire.” Dan
started to head towards his apartment, clenching his fists.
Carlos just followed him. Dan seemed like a slightly unsteady man, but Carlos felt alright since they were on the same side of this ordeal.
“What’s the plan when we get there? Do we just walk in, or are there any windows to peer through first?”
“We could look in the window, but then again, he might have closed the blinds.”
“Since it’s me he’s after, I could cause a distraction to lead him away from Max so you can get him out of there safely.”
“And I know the perfect way to get his attention…” Dan reached into his back pocket & pulled out a small box labelled ‘Devil Bangers’. He opened the box & took out one of the contents; a small wad of paper about the size of a dime. “Just need to throw a couple of these things at his feet or his face & that’ll get him pissed enough to start chasing after me. Once he’s out of my apartment, you sneak in & grab Max. Sound like a plan?”
“That’s if he’s in the apartment. But It certainly sounds like a plan.” Whether it was a good one, remained to be seen, but Carlos was willing. “Does… Dan* not like mess or something?”
Okay. On three…. three. *Carlos quickly snaps the arm back in place*
*Neil tightly closed his eyes, flinching as Carlos snapped it back in place,* OH G- *he covered his mouth with his other hand, taking a deep breath to calm down.*
*Carlos held the arm.* It’s okay, Neil… you’re doing great buddy. I’m going to wrap this up now. Give me a second, okay? *Carlos starts to arrange the straight pieces of wood he found and he starts to tape the arm as best as he can.*
*Neil, after a while of breathing deeply, kept relatively calm, watching as Carlos carefully wrapped up his arm,*
I have some ibuprofen that i can give you once I’m done with this. There’s some things I need first before wrapping it up… I also need to see if your feeling comes back before I do anything else.
*He slowly removed his hand,* Okay.. okay..
Alright… this should be good eough for now. Come on… let’s go to my tent. You’ll be safe there while I try to get Max back.
Alright… *He sighed,* Max.. he and I had a little phone call yesterday.. he wanted me to tell you and Dan to not get near the imposter. And not give him what he wants… but to get him back you have to get neat that guy..
Just be careful around him, alright?
I will be, Neil. I’ll get Max back and safe, I promise.
Okay… as soon as you see Max, please tell him that I love him.
I will, Neil. I’ll let him know. Let’s get you situated… try not to move your arm before I get back, okay?
Carlos hadn’t been to a circus in years – not since he was little. But there had been a raffle at work and Carlos had won a coupon for a free ticket. He kinda hoped that his brother and/or his dad were in town so he could invite them to go with him.
Carlos made his way to the ticket office that was set up, standing in the line with his coupon as he looked at everything around him. Some things were different than what he remembered or imagined a circus to be like, but not everything could be a dated cliche trope he supposed.
Once at the ticket office he smiled and offered the coupon. “Hey… this any good?” he asked in a joking manner.
It
was hard not to be embarrassed by the question, it was like your dad
asking you if you wanted to talk about the kid you punched in the face
or not. He twisted his fingers into one another, quickly and eagerly
shaking his head. “Ah, no..? There’s nothing. Why?” He asked with
suspicion in his voice, sure that Carlos was looking for something wrong
with him.
“I just wanted to ask… see if there’s something else you wanted to talk about before I… you know, go off into the land of big words and science jargon. Heh…” Carlos laughed, like it was funny, but really he was worried about boring Skip all over again. Nothing hurt your interest in your hobbies quite like someone ignoring everything you have to say about it.
“Maybe I could learn something-“
Probably not.
But he would certainly try to at least distract himself in the confusion of what the scientist was about to spout on about, he seated himself next to Carlos and glanced over the microscope wondering how much it costed. “I bet you’re so much smarter than me I could never even hope to process what you’re saying, so I’m sorry if I.. get jumbled? Science wasn’t my forte in school, sorry.”
Carlos hummed. “I’ll… try to make this as easy to understand as I can,” Carlos said. “There’s just… already so much that’s different with your biology just from this sample. For instance, the structure itself is very different from what I’ve seen before…” Carlos started to describe the shape and attributes of the cells, as compared to ‘normal’ cells. He tried as best as he could to explain things in a way that Skip might understand, but sometimes he couldn’t avoid using a big word or phrase.
