i don’t think i’ve ever eaten this many sweets in one day, i feel sick-

maybe you should lay down buddy – and keep a bucket next to you just in case.

last time i laid down, i went into a mini coma..

sleeping will help you feel better too. I just don’t want you to get even more sick by walking around, Max.

*slight groan* yeah you’re probably right… it’s probably not healthy to stay up this long too..

I’ll help you out, Max. Come on, buddy… *offers him a hand to hold*

*he hesitates before holding Carlos’ hand, hey he’s not wearing his bandages today-*

*Blinks at the bandages but gently starts to lead Max to his tent* So… what brought on the candy-eating?

L said their dad said kids should get candy on their birthday! so we both got alot.. *he looks at the ground as he walks*

Wait, it’s your birthday?? How did I not know this??

because i didn’t say anything about it and i didn’t tell anyone.. til now

Oh my goodness – Max, you should have told me! I’d have gotten you a present and a cake and celebrated with you!

*he looked confused for a second* oh right, people are suppost to celebrate their birthdays, aren’t they? well we still have a few hours…

But you’re sick right now. I’d rather wait until you feel better. But tonight I’ll go pick something up for you and tomorrow, if you’re feeling better, we I can give you your cake and present then. Sound good?

*he smiles and nods* yeah, that sounds good..

Alright then. What would you like, Max? As a present, i mean?

*he glanced around as he thought, what did he want?* i’m not sure..

Well… what do you like?

drawing, video games, mental stability

Hm… what’s your favorite game?

Hatbot bounced again, pleased about this news. “Hatbot.” The small robot looked up at his boss.

“Yes sir?”

“I shall be inside. Watch over this pathetic fool and make sure he
does nothing funny.” Black Hat glared at the human. “Have him bring the
sentinel back when finished.”

“Yes sir!” Hatbot saluted with a grin.

Carlos hummed lowly. “The only one doing the funny stuff here is you, Señor Sombrero Negro hombre,” he murmured in a very low voice.

He immediately got to work looking around and figuring out the components he was looking at. There was a lot going on inside, he could tell. Vocal components, what looked like large coolant lines complete with a hat-shaped pump right where a heart would be on a typical human, large servos and power cords… oh, it was beautiful. He could honestly spend all day in there.

But he had a job to do so he started to look at the wires to make sure nothing was burned and broken.

Black Hat strode back into the hat shaped manor as Hatbot curiously watched the other work. This stuff was always so interesting to him! He loved to watch his creator work when he could.

Carlos hummed to himself and gently moved wires around as he inspected. He found a manual control panel further in the cavity and hummed and nodded to himself.

“I see, I see,” he said. “Okay… so far nothing looks like it’s been knocked loose from the fall. So all I have to do is activate the start-up sequence.”

Carlos got a smaller screwdriver from his bag and he started to turn the connections he found, making sure each bolt was tight. Once done he reached in to get ready to flip the switch back on.

“Alright… let’s see how he sounds.”

Carlos flipped it and retracted his hand before sitting back and watching the robot. He listened for any crackling or any rattling, which would signal that something was out of place.

Hat Bot watched anxiously and then tilted his head when a rattling sound came from him. “What’s that?”

Carlos frowned. He reached in and shut off the switch to abort the reboot before pulling out his phone and shaking it to turn on the light. “Something’s not connected,” he told the little robot as he shined it inside and started scrutinizing wires. “Or… something broke when he fell.” It sounded like it came from deep within the robot’s chest cavity. Carlos wasn’t sure he’d be able to reach it. “Dammit… Here, hold this,” he then said, offering the little robot his phone to shine the light.

“Are you okay?”

“Huh? Oh, yeah, hon – I’m okay.” He reaches to take Cecil’s hand and leans in to press a kiss to his cheek.

“Good. You worry me, you know.” He accepts the affection with a worried little smile, and sighs lightly, giving Carlos’s hand a squeeze.

Carlos smiled at him. “It’s okay, Cecil,” he said. “I’m a Scientist. A scientist is mostly fine. But maybe, if it’d help… I could take an afternoon off from being a scientist? And we can go do something together?”

“I would like that very, very much.” Cecil answered, nuzzling against Carlos. He breathed in deeply and pressed against him. “A scientist may be mostly fine, but sometimes he needs to be careful with his science. And I sure wouldn’t mind if he took a break from science altogether for a bit to spend time with me.”

Carlos hummed, pressing a kiss to Cecil’s head. “Sounds like a plan, then,” he said. “What do you wanna do? A picnic dinner? Netflix and lounge-on-the-couch?”

“Oh
I think he did. Got upset you weren’t there. But he’s ok now. Sometimes
comes and searches the ship but yeah. There wonderful lovely
creatures.”

“They are,” Carlos agreed. He’d never seen anything like them. “Gosh… I hope his parents are somehow able to let him know that it’s okay. Or… I dunno, Yondu… You, um… your species seems to have some minor telepathic abilities. I… I dunno if this is presuming too much, but… are you able to just…let him know I’m okay? I’m just asking – I don’t know what I’m talking about, so I’m just asking…”

“Don’t worry his parents took care of him and… Hmm I guess they can understand me in a way… I whistle and they understand that way I guess. Don’t worry it’s ok. Maybe someday you’ll see him again. But always remember he’ll be you soul traveler…. he’s a baby so that means you will have a long life. You’ll both be old before he carries you to Valhalla…”

What…? Carlos had wondered about what aliens believed regarding the afterlife, but the subject had just… never come up. Did they think space whales were basically boats to the afterlife? That… well, he could see that making sense as a belief.

“You believe in Valhalla?” he asked. That was a term that Carlos had thought was exclusive to Earth… well, until it was revealed that one of Earth’s heroes was actually an alien – a Norse alien, if there was such a thing.

“We all are a bit different but it all comes down to Valhalla for those called warriors. I’m a ravager… we believe in a form of Valhalla. We’re like space warriors…. we have a code. We’re honor bound… we fight great battles at times… kinda like…. uhhhh As petey says… uhh Vikings or pirates I guess. And we belive were guided to Valhalla’s gates by those space critters out there.

“Huh,” Carlos said as he pondered. “That… sounds pretty nice, actually. Valhalla, um.. what is it to you? Is it a paradise?”

“In a way yes…. it’s the absolute… the final…. we stand in the halls of great warriors….. we drink, and eat with honor…. and we watch the world around us…… time is nothing…. but everything is perfect…. the food and drink unending…. and the companionship of our fellows eternal…….”

“Huh,” Carlos said softly. “On Earth, um… Valhalla is all that… but the legend says that there’s going to be a big fight between the realms and the warriors who died and resided in Valhalla would rise again to fight for the good of everyone. Or… something like that… I’m honestly not well versed in the Norse belief system…”

“Norse? That’s what all warriors of space belive too. Thatcwe are honored in breath and will rise to life when it was time to be summoned.”

“That’s… just what it’s called here on Earth,” Carlos explained. “There’s probably thousands of religions here on Earth – Norse is just one of them. Honestly, for a while I thought it was a dead religion. But that was before we had an actual Asgardian appear to help save the world.” He chuckled softly.

“Wait! One of the warrior gods actually came and saved terra! I …. wow… I hope someday to be honored with a drink with one in the halls of asguard….”

Carlos smiled slightly at Yondu’s apparent excitement. “Yeah, he… he did,” he said. “It was, um… It was Thor, the God of Thunder, if that means anything to you space-faring people. From tabloids and rumors, it sounds like Stark has great Avengers parties, especially when Thor’s in town.”

“And he dines and parties with mortal terrans?! I may have to get into one of those. Damn… that’s….. do those terrans even know how big of a honor that is?!”

Carlos’ smile grew wider. “Well, I think the Avengers might have some idea… I mean, he’s their friend and all. Others probably think he’s just taken up the title of Thor… I mean, I did until I did the whole space adventure thing.

“One of his friends here is the guy I mentioned earlier… um, Iron Man. One of Earth’s heroes.”

“Friends! With a literal god!! Oh dear Odin!! Shit Odins legitly real! Forgive me Odin for saying your name without honor!! Fuck!!!” Jumps up knocking the tablet over and starts doing the ravager prayer of forgiveness.

Carlos stared at the communicator in shock and in some concern. “Uh, Yondu? Yondu, are you okay? Yondu!”

Picks it up and nods to him. “Fine. I’m fine… was just sending a forgiveness prayer to Odin father of Thor god of thunder..”

“Uh, yeah, I … I saw that,” Carlos said. “You just dropped the comm though, and… I didn’t really know what I was looking at.”

“Haven’t seen you around. Need something?” Alias asked as he turned from his experiments.

“Oh! Um, yes. Excuse me,” Carlos fumbled over his words slightly. He offered his hand. “I’m Carlos. Carlos Ramon. Scientist.”

“No, I do,” Carlos said. “But it looks like any old sedimentary rock. I’m wondering… why they’re able to sing? There’s no high concentration of quartz in any of them to be  able to vibrate so I don’t know what I’m looking at. And Xrays don’t show that they’re hollow or that they have organs. They’re just… rocks. That can sing rock and roll music.”

“You told me you didn’t know the mineral composition…”

“Oh, I’m sorry,” Carlos said. “I guess I misspoke. Yeah, I guess I don’t know what a LOT of it is… I just didn’t see too much quartz.“ He sighed, but smiled. “Um well… just lemme know what you find? It- it looks like… sedimentary rock, like I said.”

“At this rate, my guess is it’s simply a pile of rocks with anomalous properties… perhaps a shared conscience if they are all exact turns and synch…” he replied as he scratched his chin.

“Maybe… but I dunno. THey all seem to exhibit some sort of individuality. Maybe it’s a complex sort of consciousnesses – like with Hiram McDaniels. I’m not sure though. For now though, I can start with the mineral composition. Everything else… I’ll work on while I’m managing their band.”
