i don’t think i’ve ever eaten this many sweets in one day, i feel sick-

maybe you should lay down buddy – and keep a bucket next to you just in case.

last time i laid down, i went into a mini coma..

sleeping will help you feel better too. I just don’t want you to get even more sick by walking around, Max.

*slight groan* yeah you’re probably right… it’s probably not healthy to stay up this long too..

I’ll help you out, Max. Come on, buddy… *offers him a hand to hold*

*he hesitates before holding Carlos’ hand, hey he’s not wearing his bandages today-*

*Blinks at the bandages but gently starts to lead Max to his tent* So… what brought on the candy-eating?

Carlos smiled slightly at him. “Or… you’re forgetting about it? Just for a bit?” he ventured. Carlos wanted to hug him back, but he still had grease on his hands. And to get his rag to wipe them off he’d have to turn out of Hancock’s hug. He put his hands together so he didn’t forget and smear grease on Hancock, but then Carlos stepped closer to press himself against Hancock.

“Maybe that’s it. You help me forget how shit things are, make things better.” A low purr escaped the ghoul and pressed in close, arms tightening around Carlos’ shoulders in a proper hug. “I don’t know what I’d do without you, sunshine, or how I survived so long before meetin’ you. You’re the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”

Carlos turned his head kiss Hancock’s cheek. “I don’t need
to tell you that I feel the same… but I do,” he murmured.

He smiled at the noise that Hancock was making – did he know
he sounded like that? He sounded so… content. Happy. It did things to Carlos’
stomach, just hearing that noise.

“Things are pretty amazing when I’m with you, you know. You
help me forget too…” Carlos didn’t elaborate on that though – Hancock was smart
and could probably surmise what Carlos meant anyway. Whatever he thought of, it’d
probably be correct.

A Holiday Surprise (closed w/ selfmedicatingmayor)

Carlos made a surprised little squeaky noise when Hancock kissed him, but he quickly tried to cover it up with a frankly obnoxious-sounding clearing of his throat. He closed the door behind them and went toward his desk.

“Uh, go ahead and sit down, Han,” he said, gesturing toward his chair. “Gimme a second to find it. I put it away so it wouldn’t get hurt while I worked.” Carlos started to go through the top drawer of the desk, taking tools out and setting them on top so that they weren’t in the way.

“The suspense is killing me, sunshine.” He laughed as he followed Carlos’ order and took a seat, watching him with an amused smile–– and maybe checking him out a little–– as he searched. “Y’know, it’s pretty nice in here. Quiet. I dunno why I don’t come down more often to see what you’re up to and watch ya work. How are you liking it?”

“Huh?” Carlos asked. “Oh, um… well, I like it very much.
Yeah, it’s nice… nice to work in a more enclosed space with a lock on the door.
And it’s nice to have places to do what I do best, you know? Just… working on
machines makes me feel really good and… y’know, useful.”

Carlos finally picked up the little bundle he’d wrapped with
a bit of old newspaper that was tied with a bit of copper wire (which he’d
recycle after this). The newspaper was an old Nuka Cola ad so the paper was a
little bit colorful. Carlos turned to Hancock, smiling and holding out the
package.

“Here it is. Merry Christmas, Hancock.”

Cecil smiled despite himself, despite the situation at hand. It
was a tired smile, but a deep one, fond and full. He breathed in slowly
and felt a little bit more alive for Carlos’s ministrations, a little
less like… like a corpse. Like a vampire.

“You may be a scientist,” he whispered lovingly, “and a great scientist, the smartest there is… but you’re also my husband.”

Carlos’s pain and fear for him still cut Cecil like a knife
into his cold white skin, but the radio host was also warmed by that
love that Carlos had for him that was greater than Science, greater than
life and all that filled it. It was the love that Cecil had for Carlos,
too, impossible to contain, keeping him alive (pretty literally, to be perfectly honest).

“Yeah, I guess I am. I think you’re right… Thank you for taking such good care of me.”

Carlos glanced at Cecil. “Oh –– absolutely, honey!”

He reached out and grabbed a couple of the stones from the table before turning back to Cecil.

“I would absolutely do anything for you. I may be very uncertain with what we are dealing with at the moment, Cecil, but there are two things that I know: I love you.”

“I love you, too,” Cecil replied softly, his smile deepening further still, even if it did not widen, did not quite light the tired pink eyes turned towards his husband. The breath he drew in was soft but audible as he asked, “What’s the other thing?”

Carlos smiled at him, gentle and loving. “You just said it,” he said. They’d had this conversation before at least a couple times; Carlos was still trying to decide if this was now a ‘thing’ for them, or if Cecil genuinely forgot the two things that Carlos knew.

He held a stone out for Cecil. “Um… try sucking on it first… see if that does it. I don’t want you to try hurting your teeth right away.”

“OK,” Cecil said gently, warmed by the reassurance, the words that made him feel full of the love he had for Carlos, and soothed by the love that Carlos had for him. It took on a sense that was almost physical, adding to that sense of rejuvenation.

He put his lips onto the stone and began to suck on it lightly. It did help, and he soon felt relief washing over him that was tangible. Once he was finished, he slowly sat up, and stretched his stiff and weary limbs. “Thank you… That is much better.”

Carlos sat up with Cecil, smiling at him. “Really? You feel okay?” he asked. “Er, I mean, in consideration of your current state, at least?” Carlos didn’t know if ‘okay’ was going to happen anytime soon… or ever, really. He just hoped that together the two of them could pull through. They should… they were in love, and Carlos was a scientist.

“I’m OK as long as I have you,” Cecil replied, and of course he genuinely meant it. His tone and his gaze were soft, and even if his body was rather stiff, and there was a certain bluish tint to the already cream white of his skin, he was still already genuinely looking better and more lively.

It was a vampiric sort of lively, sure, but it was infinitely better than ‘actual corpse.’

“So, yes, in consideration of my current state.” he concluded, and nodded. Changing gears a bit, he commented, “Gosh, this is a lot to take in, isn’t it? I feel like last night was just a dream but now, I… It’s just real. I know there are a lot of things that feel like that, but this like… this isn’t like anything I’ve ever known.”

Carlos nodded in agreement. “Yeah… it doesn’t seem real for me, either. It’s been… roughly twelve hours already. But you’re still here… that’s all that matters.” Carlos took his hand and lifted it to his mouth, giving him gentle, loving kisses.

Carlos struggled for a moment not to shut his eyes at the hand in his hair. It was… just such a weak spot for him. But he managed to keep his eyes locked with Hancock’s. “I like seeing you smile too,” he said softly. “You look really relaxed when you do… Erh, not that I think you’re full of stress or anything, just… I just like it… too.” Damn. “I like your smile. Just… yeah.”

“You’re adorable.” Hancock grinned, more than pleased with the way Carlos always seemed to stumble over his words whenever he showed affection, it was one of the ghoul’s favorite things about him. “And if I don’t seem stressed, I guess I must be doin’ something right, hmm? Good I hiding it I s’pose.”

Carlos smiled slightly at him. “Or… you’re forgetting about it? Just for a bit?” he ventured. Carlos wanted to hug him back, but he still had grease on his hands. And to get his rag to wipe them off he’d have to turn out of Hancock’s hug. “Hey, Flug! How are things going? Have you discovered anything new about the parasitic tissue and its effects?”

“Hey Carlos, I have! It’s given me powers. I plan to test out the more destructive elements by doing something low maintenance. Maybe robbing a bank.”

“Oh. Uh, no, that’s just my life style.” he answered. “Its really satisfying!”

“Scientific discovery isn’t satisfying by itself?” Carlos asked. He then shook his head. “No – I’m sorry. I shouldn’t judge you on your lifestyle. It’s just… I dunno. I guess I don’t quite understand it.”
