He
could actually tell that Carlos’ attention had been drawn to his
teeth, though he was unaware of the scientist’s speculation on the
matter. He was used to people staring at his fangs after all, and not
all that many of those people ever claimed to have been wondering
about them. As it happened, though, the type of teeth he bore was his
default, other varieties requiring conscious choice unless he was
turning into something with specific teeth.

He’d
begun to walk, briskly striding towards the door – but it seemed as
though his newest acquisition had other ideas. If his words had made
any less sense, Black Hat would likely have irritably dragged him
out. However, the statement seemed sensible, so he paused. “Don’t
be long about it.”

Carlos just hummed as he started putting lids on all his
petri dishes and vials. He lay them in order to be marked later and shut off
his microscope.  He was about ready to
go, but paused… Black Hat seemed to have a habit of making people drop
everything and take them wherever he wanted. As intrigued as Carlos was about
Black Hat and his reasoning, Carlos was concerned that he would not be coming
back to his things for a while.

He got the samples and put them in his pockets before
putting his tablet in its case. He slid that into an inner pocket in his
labcoat as well of some of his smaller gadgets. He looked at his microscope and
the substance-analyzer he set up a little mournfully, but sighed and turned
away.

“Alright, I’m ready,” he said as he came back to the other
man(?)’s side. “Um… It occurs to me that while you did say that you brought me here, I’m not sure that I understand
why. Or for how long.” He was starting to realize that this was a presence of
mind that was absent when he arrived at Night Vale, and it made him wonder if
the town itself had something to do with it.

“Hmn?” Carlos hummed. “Oh… um… yeah, I think we can do this
again,” he agreed. He squeezed Hancock’s hand with his own. “One of my favorite things is to cuddle up with you
someplace warm.” He shut his eyes and sighed.

Carlos paused for a second, a little startled. “Uh… you didn’t put dust in your terminal on purpose so I could fix it for you, did you?” he asked, putting on a teasing smirk as he glanced at Hancock.

He was making a joke, but at the same time a really small part of him wondered if that’s why it took Hancock so long to get someone to look at the thing – because nobody with experience with terminals were in the ‘leeching’ part of the relationship. Not until Carlos showed up, that was.

“Heh, of course not.” He snorted, giving a little roll of his eyes. It hadn’t been his intention to make the other think he considered him a leech, in fact, there were very few people in town the ghoul did see that way, but he could tell by the sound of Carlos’ voice he’d said something that didn’t sit right with the other man. “Hey, y’know I ain’t callin’ folks leeches, right? I couldn’t give a shit if anyone I support actually worked, I just know a lotta folks ain’t happy if they don’t have somethin’ to do or don’t feel like they’re contributing, that’s all I meant.”

“Oh, I know,” Carlos said. “I know, you don’t do that to
people. And yeah, I… I certainly know how they would feel.” At the end of the
day, Carlos supposed he was just glad that there was something he could do for
Hancock and he didn’t have to feel guilty for accepting the guy’s help. Too
much. He still couldn’t believe it had taken him so long to figure out how he
could actually give back to Hancock.

Carlos huffed slightly. “I think my opinion matters quite a bit,” he responded. “I’m a
scientist, Hancock – we’re known for being pretty smart.” He set down his bowl
of broth and wrapped his arms around Hancock, hugging him tightly. “You’re a
good thing, Hancock, I promise,” he said, his tone a little more serious. “If
you weren’t here, I probably wouldn’t be here either. Nor would a lot of people be.”

That got a laugh out of the ghoul, he hadn’t expected that kind of sass from the other man, but he had to admit, he liked it. As Carlos went on, Hancock went quiet again, a small smile still on his lips as the other hugged him and he leaned into him slightly, giving a small nod. “Alright.” He murmured softly, looking over and tilting his chin up to press a kiss to his cheek. “You’re too good to me, sunshine. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”

“Neither I, you,” Carlos returned gently. He leaned into Hancock and nuzzled a bit into his neck at the kiss. He was being real here… he had absolutely no idea where he’d be if he hadn’t met Hancock. Definitely not in a good place. He was actually able to think about Christmas and birthday presents of all things! It was… it was just incredible and he was so lucky.

“Sits
not dumb…. it’s the best little trinket I’ve gotten. Gonna take front
seat in front of the others.” Smiles pulling the little horse out and
rubs its little plastic head like it was real. “thank you carlos…… for
everything you’ve done these last few months……”

Carlos nodded to him. “And thank you for keeping your promise,” he said softly. “And for showing me the stars. Take care of yourself… and I’ll keep in touch with Peter while you’re going through your hibernation… and whenever he needs me. I hope to talk to you soon too.”

“I do as well carlos.” Goes to turn to head to his ship but stops ears flicking before grabbing him and pulling him into a searing kiss. It was hot nerdy intense and sad all in one. After a moment or two he pulls back and heads into his ship.

The kiss surprised him quite a bit. He hadn’t expected it at all, and before his mind could catch up to what was happening Yondu had broken away. Carlos stood there, a bit dazed, as the other man disappeared into the ship. It took him a moment to realize that he should go stand by the car to watch the ship go, and so Carlos quickly went to the car and stood there. He turned back to look at the M-ship, still clutching the chunk of Yaka Wood in his hands.

Yondu looks st him from the control consol and puts the three little figures on it using a little sticky puddy and then waves as the mahip lifts off and takes off leaving the wooded area cold a silent.

Carlos watched the ship as it disappeared into the night sky. The lights were soon gone – almost too quickly – and Carlos was left staring up at the stars, trying to pick out which one was the Eclector even though he knew he wouldn’t be able to see it.

There wasn’t much else for him to do now but… go home. Back to his human life. And now it was time for the hard part – figuring out what to tell the police and IRS about his absence.

That
confusion was understandable, perhaps particularly if Carlos hadn’t
been following events of a more ‘heroes and villains’ bent. “He’s
not really gotten out all that much, even before coming into my
employ.” He responded, with a slight shrug as he began to lead
towards the door. “Most of his work has been done on behalf of my
company – though I understand he has a few side projects intended
for a wider scope.”

His
own smile broadened at Carlos’ words, though he could tell the
scientist’s was one of politeness rather than enthusiasm. Well, that
made sense, considering he’d abducted the man. “Excellent~ I think
some scientific company would do him good. He’s been the only
brainiac in the place for some time, and from what I understand, it’s
better to have someone to bounce ideas from – is that right?”
He’d opened the door by that point, striding out into a hallway that
– unlike many – didn’t possess more than a few of his self
portraits.

Black Hat’s widening smile drew Carlos’ attention to his
teeth. He realized they were just like the ones in the form he took that
stretched across the room – large, sharp, and minty green in color. Did he pick
those teeth on purpose, or were they a staple whenever he transformed? That was
something to think about…

Carlos started to follow him, but he halted when he
remembered something. “Oh – give me a moment, please,” he requested. “I need to
clean up so the samples don’t get contaminated.” He didn’t wait for an answer
as he turned and hurried back into the room to start his clean-up.

“It’s… it depends. When I was a kid they took our wands away for the summer while we were enrolled at Ilvermorny,” Carlos explained. “But of course there are always kids who use magic by accident or study wandless magic out of spite. I… was closer to the former, really. In my experience though, it’s almost always been in front of my family. Though I think I told you about when I accidentally enlarged my friend’s rock collection…. he was a no-maj and some aurors came to, um… clean that up. But I didn’t get in trouble – I was only twelve or so.”

“They took your wands away?” He sounded almost horrified by that, he couldn’t imagine having his wand taken–– well, he could, but not by Hogwarts or the Ministry, the only person who’d ever taken his wand did so for much more sinister reasons. “Around here, you get to keep your wand during breaks with the condition ya don’t go performing magic in front of muggles, only exception is if your life is in danger. Using magic in self-defense while underage is justifiable and sometimes it’s entirely necessary, y’know?”

Carlos nodded. “Yeah, of course,” he agreed. “It’s just that we had a big scare with the Salem Witch Trials back since even before the United States became a thing, and then there was another scare in the 1910s or so… so MACUSA tried to get a handle on everything and keep children from performing magic when they were too young. I guess… we have enough issues with accidents. Then again, the US is a big country so… maybe the government is a bit stricter because there’s more wizards to deal with?”

Carlos frowned slightly at Sylvain, but in response to his question the scientist shrugged and nodded. “The town is very interesting – I honestly haven’t seen a place like it before, and I can always find myself to be very engaged in my work here.”

“And you don’t- Do they let you see your family, or no?” he asked.

Carlos was taken back by this. “My… my family?” he asked softly. He hadn’t thought about having a family before. Did he… no wait – he did have a family. His brother and his dad. They lived in Oh-ree-gone. He hadn’t spoken to them in so long… how long? Carlos’ eyebrows scrunched together and he wasn’t looking at particularly anything as he thought, trying to make sense… why had he not talked to them?

No- I don’t think- I don’t know.

Well…. if it is, let me know, okay?

*peeks into the pot* The ice is melted. Wanna feel the water? See if it’s cool enough?

*Max stuck his hand in the water before grabbing three(3) more ice cubes and tossing them in* almost.

Alright. *Carlos grabs an ice cube out of the pitcher and pops it in his mouth, crunching it with his teeth.*

Have you ever tried the hairspray lighter thing? *max took one of the ice cubes and put it in his mouth*

Yes, and it is very dangerous. I suggest, before doing that, you find a nice open space away from anything flammable. *how can one be noisy eating ice? Who knows, but Carlos is noisy*

Well that’s damn impossible since this is the middle of the forrest almost.

Well, then wait until you can find a nice parking lot to do it in. With adult supervision.

That’s not as fun..

… You could set up a tower of paper cups to hit with the flames?
