A Holiday Surprise (closed w/ selfmedicatingmayor)

“November 12th?” Carlos asked, using his own voice to help commit it to memory. “Alright… got you. And no… of course I won’t tell anyone. Not… especially not if you don’t want me to.” He stirred up the broth with his chopsticks, looking for more noodles. He huffed softly in amusement when he remembered something. “In… back in 1799, um… the first recorded meteor shower was observed in the United States on November 12th. Andrew Ellicott was the guy’s name and… he was sitting on a ship down in what was Florida at the time. I dunno what they call it now… probably ‘underwater’. Heh…”

“It’s–– I just…. I dunno, I get pretty low on that day every year, don’t really need folks makin’ the connection and committing the date to memory so they can fuck around when they know I won’t be payin’ attention.” He admitted softly, picking at his own noodles as he listened to Carlos’ little fun fact. “That’s…. actually pretty cool. I wonder why it took so long for folks to record it, I assume meteor showers have been happenin’ since the dawn of time, yeah?”

Carlos listened to the other’s reasons, nodding as he could
understand. Don’t make it a big deal then… he could do that. Too bad he missed
it the first time around, but… it explained Hancock practically disappearing on
him last month, now that he realized it. “Your secret’s safe with me, Han. I
promise.”

He then looked at Hancock and smiled at him. “And… as for
the meteor shower, that was just the first time it was recorded since the United
States became a thing,” he corrected. “That was maybe five hundred years ago.
Of course it’s always been happening, just… that was when the United States
first observed it and wrote it down.”

Stephen
followed the instructions and sat back, tuning into the radio station
to hear the results of his quick improvisions. Hopefully it did not make
anything implode and if they knew what they were doing, which he hoped
they were, everything would run smoothly and he could simply leave.

But something called to him, something peculiar. It was beyond the
walls of the lab almost like whispers or some oddity that had yet to be
explained. As Cecil declare the Strange Doctor’s findings and as it
played, he spaced out as if he was in the trance again, taking no notice
of Carlos’s movements and emotions.

Carlos watched Stephen for a moment, but then decided to watch the Bamfs. They seemed to be getting curious and had spread out to explore his apartment. He… should probably occupy them while they’re here.

“Um, hey… you guys hungry? You guys wanna watch Netflix?” He started for his TV and, curious, some of the little blue imps followed him.

The Vampire of Night Vale

Cecil groaned a second time, this one longer than the first, and his eyes slowly fluttered open. He winced under the tight grip, and found it difficult to move his cold, lifeless limbs.

At first, he found it impossible to speak, and it terrified him. Unable to move, unable to communicate, he felt as if he were trapped in a nightmare, experiencing an episode of sleep paralysis while his poor husband panicked over him. It took another long, terrible moment before he realized that he needed to breathe manually in order to say anything.

“Babe? What’s wrong?” he squeaked, as he worked on the issues of better speech and any sort of movement. Still, for the moment, it was enough to just be able to respond to his Carlos.

Carlos gasped, relief slamming into him like a truck. He let out a long sigh, dropping back down onto the bed next to Cecil and wrapping his arms around the other tightly. Still cold…. ugh. Carlos quickly started working his hands on Cecil’s skin, trying ineffectively to warm him up.

“You- you- Thank God, Cecil… You weren’t moving – You weren’t breathing! I – shit, I thought some thing had – I-I thought you weren’t going to wake up!” Carlos was babbling, but was still trying to explain. He was just so happy that he’d been wrong though!

“U-um…” The little boy approached Carlos. He looked like…. Max..? “Sir..?” He gently pulled on Carlos’ sleeve to get his attention. He even sounded like Max! “Have you… maybe.. seen my cat?” (ihopethisisgoodyoudonthavetoanswer-) ((@reversemaxsearchhistory))

Carlos looked down at the boy, a little surprised by his apparent sheepishness. Max was usually more confident than this.

Immediately Carlos turned to face him fully. “Hey – no, I haven’t seen a cat. What does it look like? Do you need help looking for it?”

@reversemaxsearchhistory

“Yes, yes! Help would be nice!” He smiled at the helpfulness of the other. “She- hmm…” He looked around, thinking. “She’s black! She has…. yellow! Yellow eyes! And a white spot on her nose!”

Carlos smiled at the boy. “She sounds cute,” he said. “What’s her name?”

“Sabrina!” He stated happily, bouncing up and down with joy. “And she really is cute! And small!”

“Is she? Well, let’s find her so I can see her.” Carlos was allergic to cats, but eh… that’s what medicine was for. Besides, this kid (who looked a whole lot like Max – were they related?) needed the help so Carlos was going to give it.

“Thank you so much!” He smiled, happy that someone was helping him. “Come on! I think the last time I saw her was somewhere over there!” He pointed at some bushes. “Oh! Right! I think I should tell you my name too! I’m Max!”

Carlos blinked at the child. “Ah… um, that’s – that’s a nice name!” Okay, so there was a multiverse to deal with. No biggie – Sleepy Peak was a surprisingly supernaturally active area, he was coming to discover. “You know, you kind of remind me of me when I was a kid. I think I looked a lot like you.”

“Sits
not dumb…. it’s the best little trinket I’ve gotten. Gonna take front
seat in front of the others.” Smiles pulling the little horse out and
rubs its little plastic head like it was real. “thank you carlos…… for
everything you’ve done these last few months……”

Carlos nodded to him. “And thank you for keeping your promise,” he said softly. “And for showing me the stars. Take care of yourself… and I’ll keep in touch with Peter while you’re going through your hibernation… and whenever he needs me. I hope to talk to you soon too.”

Not so Villainous (closed w/ theblackestofhats)

theblackestofhats:

Ahh,
it was definitely amusing to see his newest scientist looking
so discomfited – Black Hat seemed to exude a sense of smugness at
this, one distributed evenly throughout his currently fibrous body.
Hmm, perhaps that might be something to change out of soon, before it
got boring.

Thus
far, boring was not one of the words he’d use to label Carlos,
even considering the time  he’d spent tap-tapping away. Heh, and he
certainly had manners. That was more than someone with
monstrous mien could ordinarily expect, and while it didn’t
immediately mean anything in his behaviour towards the scientist
would change, it did give him pause for thought.

Electing
to return the politeness for now, he chuckled again and responded.
“No, the light doesn’t hurt me – I simply have a taste for drama.
There’s a lightswitch in here somewhere, if you can find it.” Ah,
yes, and an introduction would seem to be in order, wouldn’t it? His
form appearing to melt and distort, contracting inwards, he
re-assumed his usual shape. “The name is Black Hat~”

The sight of Carlos’ surroundings shifting and moving in the
limited light made him flinch in a brief moment of terror and fright. But he
calmed quickly and watched in fascination as the mass formed a well-dressed humanoid
in appearance.

“Willful morphing… oh, that is amazing,” Carlos almost whispered in
awe. He caught himself before he could spend too long admiring the new form
that the being took and quickly he held out his left hand. But he realized that
was the wrong one and traded his phone over so he could hold out his right,
making sure to keep the light on his phone angled down so he didn’t shine it in
the other’s face.

“Carlos Ramon, scientist,” he introduced himself quickly. “Though
I feel like you know more than just that. Um, like I said – pleasure to meet
you.” He smiled at the other – Black Hat.
“Your name is very fitting – I wonder if you chose it on purpose.” There was a
bit of a jovial tone in that sentence, as one of Carlos’ ways to get familiar
with someone was to joke with themof course Black Hat went by that name on purpose. Obviously! Just like Carlos would answer to any variation of The Scientist.
