Carlos was taken off-guard, but he merely gave the other a contemplative frown before reaching out to comply. “Uh… alright,” he said.

@whispers-of-change

She
nodded, not sure if she was entirely satisfied with his response. It
was more a worry that he didn’t understand how serious she was. But he
seemed sincere, and that was a conversation they could have later, once
they got to know each other better. He definitely didn’t need to know
that much about her yet. So she wouldn’t push the matter. “Okay. Good…”
she said quietly. “‘Cause, you- You know, it’s… good to communicate and
have boundaries.” She gave him a a soft smile, and took a sip of her
tea, eyes flickering down.

Carlos nodded again. “Absolutely,” he said. “If I’m doing something wrong, or whatever, don’t be afraid to tell me. I mean… I’m not going to go out of my way to see what I can get away with, but we all make mistakes and when I make one just let me know.” Because he was sure mistakes were going to happen. He hoped that assured her some at least.

She nodded, and looked back up at him. “Yeah, I will. And I think… I think it’s good to acknowledge ahead of time that things aren’t going to be… perfect. But that it is good to talk about things when things go south.” She gave him a soft smile and let out a sigh. Not a bad sigh, or one of exasperation, but one that indicated a sense of satisfaction. This seemed to be going fairly well already. Things seemed to be headed in a good direction. She was happy.

Carlos smiled at her. “Yeah.”

This was great. She seemed at ease and things seemed to be going alright so far. This was fantastic. God, he hoped he wasn’t going to mess this up.

“So, uh… what’s your family like?” Carlos asked, wanting to keep conversation flowing.

She kept the smile on her face, but the rest of her body tensed slightly. “Let’s, uh…” She let out a breath, and tilted her head slightly, smiling a bit wider to compensate for her slight discomfort. “Let’s maybe wait a bit for this particular conversation,” she suggested, her voice a bit quieter than it had been. “There is, uh… a lot to unpack there. Not all of it… pleasant.”

“Oh,” Carlos said. “Well… honestly, I can understand that.” And he could. But she needed to reach at least a level three before unlocking his true feelings regarding his backstory. “So… maybe just tell me who you’re on speaking terms with?” He figured it’d be easier for her to say something present. “Like… my brother’s a software engineer. And my Dad’s an ex-retired chef. Not an ex-chef – ex-retired chef. He came out of retirement just for some part time work.”

She looked down at her tea and let out a sigh. “There’s, uh… No one left to really be on speaking terms with,” she murmured. “My parents died when I was younger, and I uh… Lost track of my brother shortly after my mom passed…” That, of course, was the short version of it, but she could give him the longer version of it later. Once they were closer. She didn’t feel like discussing such a depressing matter at the moment.

“Oh,” Carlos said softly. “I’m… sorry to hear about that, I really am.” Now he felt like a jerk trying to push the subject a little bit. “Well… how about friends?”

Will it? Oh, that’s good to hear!

*he mumbles and chews on his hand again, looking out the window*

A: Oh – hey, Maxy, don’t do that! Don’t hurt your little hands, okay? *she gently takes his wrist to pull it away*

C: Sounds like he needs a pacifier too maybe… along with the mittens and the chew toy. Angie, what else do babies need?

A: Oh! Well, Mama gave everyone their own bibs with protection so that we wouldn’t get stains. And then she had those spinny things over our cribs and stuffed animals to be friends with. Though Gama ate mine and I’m still mad at him. *she frowns, remembering her toy* I miss her…

*he looked between Angie and Carlos as they spoke, not really understanding what they were saying, he yawns again, almost falling over this time*

A: Oh! Maxy, be careful! *she holds him closer*

C: *looks in the rear view mirror at the kids* Is he okay? Do you need me to pull over?

*smells like it Max begins babbling again* pap..

A: I think he’s okay. *she sniffs* He’s smelly, Papa.

C: Ah sh… shoot. Hang on, sweetie. *he pulls to the side of the road and parks. He gets out and then opens the door to the back seat. He gets some paper towels from under the seat and a small roll of trash bags.*

*he curiously watches Carlos as he grabs the things, growing slightly fussy from his mess..*

A: He’s getting squirmy Papa… and he’s making a face.

C: I got it, hang on. *lays out paper towels on the seat and has a bag open and ready.* Give him to me – I’ll try to clean him up.

*he whines slightly, kicking his little legs when he was lifted up and holding one of Carlos’ hands* papa..!

C: Hi, Max. *smiles a the baby. He then lays him down and starts trying to clean up* Ugh… Angela? Look around in my glove compartment or my bag – I think I have some binder clips or alligator clips somewhere…

A: Okay! Clips, clips, clips… *she crawls into the front seat and starts looking*

*he giggles happily at the funny (grossed out) faces Carlos was making* :D!

C: Ew, yucky… you’re a yucky boy, Max. Messy, messy, messy.

A: I found some cow clips, Daddy! *she holds up a plastic box of binder clips*

C: Huh? Oh, those are great, honey! Hang onto them!

*he keeps giggling til he looks out past Carlos, at seemingly nothing* ….

*Carlos lifts an eyebrow and glances over his shoulder to see what Max might see.*

Coming into the old city had been a bad idea, Carlos
decided, as he ran through the streets along the river. A pack of raiders had
caught sight of him and were now after him like a pack of wolves after a rabbit
who didn’t even have a god-damn gun!

He wondered about jumping over the wall and hiding out in
the trash piled along the polluted banks of the river. But he was toting so
much scrap that it would be too difficult, and if he were to just drop the bag
they might be able to figure out where he went.

His legs were getting tired and had to stop sometime. Carlos
saw a mailbox and an overturned picnicking table and he went for it. As soon as
he sat down he regretted his choice, but it was too late – he could hear
footsteps coming.

@brutallyartistic

Pickman had been stalking this gang for a while now, killing them one by one and leaving his calling cards in order to draw more to the area to investigate. He did this with all the gangs who wandered into the area and had found it to be the most effective strategy. However, sometimes they grew bored of investigating or simply decided it wasn’t worth the risk so he would have to come out and try to draw them back in.

That’s what he’s doing now, making his way towards where he believes they had established a makeshift base. However, he stops when a figure cowering behind a picnic table catches his attention. Most of the time, he would go about his business, but maybe this guy was running from those raiders…

“Excuse me?” He approaches the man slowly. “What are you hiding from?”

Carlos actually jumped with a small yelp and stared up at the man who approached. At first he wondered why someone would be wearing a suit out in the wastes, but then he found his voice. “Y- RUN!“ he hissed. “There’s raiders coming! You need to get somewhere safe!”

ever meet a demon? cause there are actually a couple back at camp if

I have never seen a demon. And I’m not exactly keen on meeting one, if anything I’ve heard about them are true.

*he tilts his head slightly* what have you heard about them?

Just… mythos stuff, really: hellspawn bent on destroying or corrupting humanity and all that’s good. Admittedly though, the Angels weren’t what I would have expected them to be either.

“I
lied…. peter doesn’t know the truth either….. he can’t know that
murdering bastard…. and I’ll keep him as far away from him as I can…”

“What murdering bastard?” Carlos asked him. “Do you… are you talking about his father? Yondu, what the hell were you doing? Kids? Banished? Yondu, please – tell me clearly: what happened??”Carlos was very concerned – he had never heard of any of this before. What did Yondu do exactly before they even met??

Sighs. “His fathers name is ego. He’s a celestial very powerful being… ego cane to earth and mated a woman andcpeter was born. He went all over the galaxy mating with all species… and producing children. He… asked me to bring some of his children that were orphans.. mothers having died… he promised a world that I’d have… killed for as a child… so I brought him a dozen or so of his kids….. it wasn’t until right before peter I realized what he was doing….. he was killing them. If the didn’t hold some trait he was looking for or what he’d kill them…… I found peter and I kept him.. to protect him… but my ravager family found out about the others… and banished from the only family I knew…..they never speak….. I killed those kids…. breaking the code… I just… i was stupid to have fallen for his lies….”

Carlos listened carefully, trying not to let his alarm and uneasiness take away from what exactly Yondu was telling him and how it was making him feel. Every word just sounded more and more horrible though, and Carlos wasn’t liking it at all. Yondu was hurting so badly with this… he was carrying a huge burden and he was hiding it from Peter. And maybe Kraglin? (He didn’t know – he got the feeling Kraglin was around before Peter). Tullk probably knew too… and he was still sticking around Yondu, despite everything.

“You… you thought you were giving children the opportunity to grow up with family,” Carlos said softly. “And… and this Ego guy… I don’t think he would have told you what was happening to them, would he?”

He shakes his head. “I just… felt … something wrong… I never saw the kids again… and… it’s like forgot they existed…. I knew he’d killed them.. how or why or….. didn’t matter to me. Only that he did…… I tried to to go to the ravagers… but…. they refused to listen… hear me out…..so… I just… did what I thought was best… raise peter as my own…”

“… so… you essentially kidnapped a child to keep him away from his monster of a father?” Carlos asked. “Why wouldn’t the Ravagers want to support that? I mean, I know the code – some of it at least: you don’t deal in sapient trafficking, with the excepting of bounty hunting.” Carlos thought he was starting to understand somewhat.
